Tesla can Charge the Rest

Review of the ShockFlo Tesla to J1772 (Type 1) 48 Amp adapter. Charge any electric vehicle (EV) using a Tesla destination or wall charger. An adapter like this is a must-carry for non-Tesla EV drivers. See what I like and critically don't like about this particular adapter.

the "spiral" "fluted" pins you mention are actually superior. They offer much more contact area than the "pinch ring" type. Look in the tesla plug and you'll see the fluted type contacts.
Excellent Review. Thanks!

Thanks Brian!
The pilot signal on the j1772 and tesla plug are a little shorter than the rest. This means if you pull the plug, the control signals will disconnect first and the wall charger unit should drop the 240v before any arcing can happen at the plug in your hand.
Great explainer! Just fyi: your vocal audio was unbalanced and coming out the left channel more than the right channel.
I also saw your video about Lectron adapter, sounds like Lectron is better built ?

I’d go with the Lectron. Side-by-side the difference is obvious. The Lectron seems like a really solid unit!

You got me there. Haha
To clarify for the average non Tesla EV owner...this ONLY works with the Tesla home chargers correct? It cannot work at a Tesla charging station as there is a physical data connection right? An app that only allows charging of an actual Tesla EV. Please educate me. Thanks!

Anything that isn't a DC rapid/Supercharger usually works with these. Some stations are set to 'Tesla-only' mode, which will sometimes throw errors on some cars... that's why if you plug the adapter in first and wait likee 30-60 seconds before plugging in, it can help as it will cause the Tesla comms to timeout and fall back on standard J1772 signalling. This is all based on an undocumented dip switch inside the charger. Cheers!

@@justingistpreuninger3447 Cool! Thanks for explaining!
They tend to work much better if you don't cut the cord off. LOL! It looks just like a rotten banana!

This proprietary fitting con is as old as the hills. Sony was terrible for it back in the day. The EU has forced Apple to go to USB-C so the regulators eventually get wise to this. Give it a year or two and tesla will be on CCS like everyone else. Is the Bolt any good btw? We don't have them this side of the pond. I'm picking up an MG4 tomorrow, I don't think you guys have those.

I think your right on Tesla moving to CCS. I really like the Bolt. It’s performed perfectly over the past 33k miles. I wish it had a tad more range, but that’s more just to alleviate some minor range anxiety on long winter drives. The Opel Aptera-E is a Bolt. Not sure if they still sell those in Europe though. We don’t have an MG4. That thing looks great though!

@@chargeeverywhere they’ve already started fitting some Supercharger stations with CCS.

@@chargeeverywhere Ahhh. I had no idea the Aptera was the Bolt! Yeah, the issue with the US is that it's big so a lack of range will hurt. The MG is just so fun to drive, can't wait to get it. Tbh, it's a similar offering to the Cupra and ID3 but it's €10k cheaper and is just excellent all round. No corners cut at all other than an infotainment, but even that's still better than VW's. Hopefully it'll make its way over to you guys.

@@emmettturner9452 Have you seen any implementations in the US yet? Some reviewers have charged a non-Tesla in Europe, but I haven't seen it here yet.
