Terry Stafford "Suspicion" Rare Live Performance Circa 1986
Backed up by the Arizona country band Mogollon back in 1986 for the 1987 season of " Backstage Pass" this is the complete song.-Produced by Joel Samuel for his television show joelsamuelpresents-
By request- thanks for watching and spread the word!
BTW- Terry the Consummate Entertainer performed this without ever practicing with the band. They said they could do it so he said he would give it a go and impromptu exclusive live performance is a testament to the man. RIP Terry Stafford- joelsamuelpresents

yes, age 50+ in Amarillo, the city of his birth. He wrote Suspicion for himself. same with Amarillo, but King George does it better
he not only WAS a good singer, but with that group backing, he was a good sport.

R.I.P. Terry.
Suspicion" is a 1962 song originally recorded by Elvis Presley written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman. It became a major hit in 1964 in a recording by Elvis Presley sound-alike Terry Stafford. Amarillo by Morning was written by Terry Stafford and Paul Fraser.
What a BEAUTIFUL voice & GREAT song!!!! TY ... Enjoyed this very much ..
Agree! Suspicion" is a song written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman. It was one of 25 songs Pomus and Shuman wrote for Elvis Presley.
I didn’t realize he was red headed. He had amazing voice and a Texas type of voice and personality.

On this day in 1964 {March 28th} Terry Stafford performed "Suspicion" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand' Interestingly, exactly seven years earlier on March 28th, 1957 another Elvis sound alike, Ral Donner, was attending an Elvis concert at the Chicago's International Amphitheater {tickets were $2.00 to $3.50} Stafford's "Suspicion" entered the Top 100 on February 22nd, 1964 and peaked at #3; two years earlier the original version appeared on Elvis' 1962 album 'Pot Luck with Elvis'
Fantastically beautiful sounding, very nice.
This is so great to see he is a legend, he also is a really good person..
A great singer and song writer. Sad that he passed away so young.

Thanks a million for this video. Fantastic. Terry was wonderful.
Wow, This is fabulous! One of my favorite songs from the early 60's. Great video, great sound! What a treasure to hear and see Terry do this great song live. One of the best on Utube. Thanks for posting!
I LIKE IT OF COURSE thanks for these memories thanks TERRY STANFFORD
I enjoyed it, great song and good to see Terry as an adult. Love Elvis but Terry does a nice job too. Or "did", back in '86.
fabulous- always loved terry's version of this and wonderful to now be able to view this live recording. Thanks joelsamuel

I love this song🎶thx Mr Samuels for keeping his music N videos going😇
Let's not forget this was over 20 yrs later after the Dick Clark "live performance" plus the fact his health was deteriorating from liver ailments I believed he died of, in 1997. So sad. I like both his and Evis'

Terry’ Original Version as Always been Better but Elvis Presley Version had taken off which Terry Stafford’s Version got lost in History somewhat. Both Men was Very Talented but Personally I have a Soft Spot for the Original Version by Terry Stafford I mention Terry name a number of times so we Don’t Forget a Great Singer.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏🙏
Wonderful artist...
I wonder how many people in the audience even had a 'clue' that HE was the one who (originally) RECORDED THIS?

I think his 45 was first, then Elvis's. We know that Terry S wrote the song, and that Elvis recorded it on an album before Terry's single. I bought TS's 45 at the time, thot then, still do, that his is better than Elvis's. And I'm a huge Elvis fan.🎵🌟🌹

Love this song mr Stafford. RIP. Freddie the swede
Great job Terry great job backup band that was a true classic it stops the heart even today this is 2024 God bless Jesus is coming don't get left behind
Sounds great
Elvis recorded the song first.. and it was an album track on the "Pot Luck" album. RCA didn't release Elvis version' of the song, as a single until after Terry's version had been released as a single. Too late and a missed opportunity for RCA and Elvis. The faster tempo and the girls doing the backing vocal.. add some magic to Terry's version. Both Terry Stafford and Elvis Presley do a great job on this song.

Oh man.. poor Terry! He could barely keep from bursting out laughing at how bad the backing vocals were. At least he had a good sense od humor.

Elvis also did an incredible version of this song, but Terry’s original version was the best! Yes, even BETTER than The King’s!

Check your facts. Elvis fully recorded it first....Terry stole the entire arrangement and sound and released the record shady like first. Elvis was disappointed that his supposed friend could do that...but let it go. Terry is no Elvis. He stole one song and sang it like Elvis just to get noticed. Imitator.

@@jiujitsu4lifeElvis did NOT care. He recorded it on an album. That was it, as far as he was concerned. He knew Terry wrote it. I haven't seen the music, so don't know just what Stafford's arrangement was. Have you?!!

Elvis Presley sang operatically in his version, overdoing it; whereas Terry Stafford sang it more C&W, which made it sound better balanced, along with the alluring background harmonics.

Amazingly that group did throw him off, always one of my favs.
madmoses, Unfortunately Terry passed in 1996. What an awesome talent. If you'd like to check out a remake of this classic, produced by Bob Summers visit my profile. Bob not only played all the instruments on Terry's version but on the new one as well. Terry was a great friend and Bob is one awesome individual as well.
The best version ever.
This man is so fucking cool Always loved Terry's music
A great song also done by Elvis. R.I.P Terry this song will live on forever
I sang that song at karaoke for years
Terry The Great!
Terry's version is great and so is Amarillo by Morning which he co-wrote with a guy who's name escaped me but Elvis sang Suspicion in 1962 and it was written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman with Elvis in mind check it out if anyone's interested Terry had a hit with it in 1964 and I think I may like it better than Elvis' version though both are great as are Terry's version of Amirillo by Morning and George's also
Folks that criticise this perfomance should remember that no live playing is going to be like the original recording no matter who you are. Also If you cant hear yourself or the backing properly singers find it difficult to find the correct pitch all the time. I thought this was very good considering Terry was with a different band.
Love this!! ❤

Wow this is like 22 years after it was a hit and yet Terry sounds great, yes the back up band was terrible and it doesn't have the organ in the mix which made it sound so cool on the record. Does any one else think it was hard for him to sing it because he was trying so hard not to laugh at the back vocals/

The backup singers and Mellotron playing were pure genius .
you can't go home, when it's over it's over.
I miss the organ in the background like in his original recording. This is more like the Elvis version. Dick Clark asked Terry Stafford how he got that sound in the song in the background and Terry told him "to me it sounds like muted trumpets but it was done with an organ.

@@elisabethvalade9866 Not according to Wiki. The song was written by two men who wrote a lot of songs for Elvis.
On this date in 1964 {Feb. 22nd} "Suspicion" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #3 and spent 15 weeks in the Top 100. Ranked 22nd on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1964 chart... Originally recorded by Elvis Presley in 1962 for his album "Pot Luck with Elvis"... This version reached #31 on the U.K. Singles chart; in 1976 Elvis released his version in the U.K. and it peaked at #9...
As we all know each of us as we age things our not the same .
Wow
Hi Terry I just love you baby
No synth/keyboard but incredibly awesome. Never thought Id see him
Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman wrote Suspicion, not Terry. Elvis recorded it on an LP, but did not release it as a single. Terry did so.
All the good ones are gone 🙏🏼
After listening to Elvis's version it now seems obvious that a lot of Terry's arrangement was copied from Elvis's version. The big difference is the female backup which Elvis version does not have. It does wonders for the song! I once read in an Elvis bio that some young singer had heard an unreleased song at Elvis's home (in California I think it was.) The story goes that this unknown singer got the song out and Presley was peeved, but did nothing. He said, "Let the little b___ have his hit !"
010/10😊😊
People don't know that Elvis sang it first 2 years before Terry Stafford
I read that some said Terry Stafford was a one hit wonder, that is not true, he had other hits and even If he only had one hit that one more than what the e__ posted, I always been a fan of Elvis Presley but as someone said, Terry Stafford didn't die on a tolet.

Terry's studio big hit version many years earlier was much better than this live version with the poor backup band with a stupid name and although rare, Terry's studio version was better than the Elvis version and sold records big time whereas the Elvis version did not even break the top 100. I love most Elvis songs but Terry beat him on this one. Sadly Terry died too young at age 56.
