Terrifying: The Venomous Sidewinder Snake Slithers at 18 MPH

Ойын-сауық

Reaching speeds up to 18 MPH, the Peringuey’s Adder, or sidewinder snake, slithers rapidly along the desert dunes at intimidating speeds. Sidewinding is the fastest way to get around and reduces contact with the burning sand. But, the way this venomous snake buries itself in the sand, and waits to attack its prey, is even scarier.

It's like this, the snake uses half its body to pull forward and as it pulls forward the body raise off the ground and lands on the other half of the body pushes forward lands on the other half of the body, pulls forward lands on other half of the body and it's a cycle.

    I know angles are everything but damn that snake can hide. I had to watch this twice to try and see him. I'm sure from above you can see the eyes but still. no traces of the body. nuts.

    TheVEEbR When I was 12 , my family moved to the country side to escape the Somali civil war and we spent about 3 years in vast grass lands/deserts area where it was common to see this type of snake, black mamba and all sorts of slithery creeps. I have seen people bit by scorpions and snakes . It it is rare. The snakes usually run away at the sight of human.

    Do you have to watch out for sidewinders if you're hiking through sand dunes? Can you even see them if they're buried in the sand? I want to go to somewhere like Kelso Dunes but that kind of scares me.

  • @SPTSuperSprinter156

    @SPTSuperSprinter156

    2 жыл бұрын

    I saw what I’m pretty sure was a sidewinder recently on my way back down from Kelso Dunes, not in the dune itself but on the level ground with vegetation near the road. I would always wear decent boots and trousers regardless of the heat (never shorts) try not to step on any snakes and don’t do what I did which was stay on the dune after the sun had set. It was tight getting back to the road before almost total darkness.
