So funny story: This video reeeeally didn't want to get made. First, when I finished the script, a little someone named Adamchromee uploads a video similar to this one and I would have felt bad for uploading it then. Then when I started voicing stuff, the coughing bit at the beginning killed my voice and I couldn't record for a day or two. Then, I had to get some vanilla, non journey mode terraria footage and got slime rain, a solar eclipse, a blood moon, a monsoon, and a pirate invasion all in a row delaying recording by an hour or two and killing my motivation. Finally, a day or two before the video was finished, I lost power and couldn't work on the video. Basically, I had quite the experience making this thing

@@TheRealAdolf1889 Terrablade was at its worst during 1.2 as you needed all the ingredients plus a broken hero sword, which only had about a 1% drop rate from two solar eclipse enemies and back then you couldn't trigger the event manually. Usually by that time you already had golem tier items and had beaten the game, so yeah, Terrablade was born useless.

There’s probably a worse more obscure item he forgot about. My honourable mention would be the spirit flame because you have to kill off like a million dijin spirits to get a lamp and then try to kill a desert spirit (as an early hardmode mage) for what is a slow mana weapon. Now you could kill a desert spirit easily with a sky fracture as a mage class but why would you even want the spirit flame at that point?

@@theusdependente in 1.3 the fireball is slow and doesn’t cover much range. It uses a significant portion of mana aswell. I can fire it faster probably but mana conservation during this stage of the game where hardmode armour is an issue.

Yes I agree the spirit lamp is too much risk for the reward it gets you, just fishing for a hour or 2 at the hallowed where you can build a box and stay safe. Can get you one of the most powerful early hard mode mage weponesp, and the sky fracture and meator staff are faster and cost less mana .

I always use the sunfury in late pre-hardmode, it’s actually pretty good with the godly modifier, dealing over 80 dmg

@@purplehaze2358 yeah, but being able to have any major movement upgrade earlier in the game really helped me on crafting the better wings. I never even knew about buying wings before crafting them in hardmode, and had just thought they were just fledgeling wings or craftable wings!

From the thumbnail, I thought these would be things updated out of usefulness. However, a good third of this was pretty surprising! I get they want to keep items like the reed useful, but giving them damage won't do much. Well, that's not as making a hardmode shortsword... (actually they could be good, what if they had extra effects-)

Legit used the breathing reed as a sort of "secondary" melee weapon when playing as ranger, I found it so early it actually dealt meaningful damage and has long-ass range.

It used to be infinitely worse than it is now, and it's still really not that good. It's far too rare to be viable, I did quite a bit of underworld fishing in my last playthrough and I still only got it towards the end of the game, unless you're willing to spend all your time fishing in lava at the start of hardmode you won't get much use out of the obsidian swordfish

I've used the breathing reed to stay underwater like, one whole time. Which makes me *superior.*

I always loved the breathing Reed, I found it in the first gold chest I ever opened in Terraria, it was in a big pond halfway across my second ever world. It’s not very good, but I have used it for both it’s intended purpose (especially in adventure maps) and as a weapon in 1.4 where I got it super early game and it was way better than my wooden sword and wouldn’t be topped until platinum. Also wow, I used to use the poisoned knives in that second world back in the day, I was misinformed that thrown weapons were super good by an early KZreadr I saw so when I saw how string these were compared to anything I had before, I made a bunch. I still love the colour to this day.

The nettle burst is actually REALLY useful for its stage of the game. For its infinite piercing and going through tiles, it fills a good niche of "the big knockback". Seriously, a line of enemies that want to violently tear you into bloody tomato soup will immediately fold like an omelet when you click just once. Also very good for traveling the jungle temple. Saved my skin from many stressful encounters with a swarm of lizahrds. I know this weapon wasn't even mentioned on the list, but I did see it in the beginning and felt like shedding some light on this neat little flower.

I actually use the breathing reed to explore the ocean and go through some underwater areas early game. It has also helped me with a couple of very niche farms

The honorable mentions are more forgettable than most key word most of the ones on the list

I saw the Toxicarp in a video the other day. First time ever hearing about it and I immediately thought I want that weapon, so when I get into Hardmode in my current playthrough imma grind for it.

Don't forget, Toxikarp also has to compete with the other two spreading biome fish weapons, with Bladetongue, while needing to get in close initially, firing off an ichor inflicting projectile, making it great in a utility against the upcoming mechs for melee, and the Crystal Serpent, which is a strong start of hardmode staff with aoe capabilities due to it splitting upon contact with a surface

The Toxikarp is soooooo good. I am using it right now and it is perfect for killing monsters easily at a low cost so you don’t have to choose the right amo and the right gun having to worry about how much you have.

I like poisoned knives. The evil powder is easy to get, as you will be spending some time in the evil anyways, why not pick the mushrooms as well, and throwing knives can be bought from the merchant in bulk during a blood moon. The poisoned knives have higher damage and speed than the regular knives, they pierce and have auto-use. The debuff is also a very nice bonus. I often use them in the underground desert, as their knockback and speed can slow down the chargers, their piercing helps with swarms and worms, and they are accurate.

I'm bragging here about using the breathing reed in the start of my playthroughs for the fact you can be underwater and still breath, and also the fact that it increases your breath timer. Good for exploring the ocean floor earlier on.

I actually used the breathing Reed a lot! Whenever I make a hellevator it gets flooded a lot, and I'm the type who doesn't drain the water out, ill just make small breathing areas off to the left of the hellevator, and keep digging down. However sometimes an enemy will kill me, and irs easier to use the breathing Reed while waiting to sink to the bottom. Its also very useful for getting quick loot at the ocean when you dont have enough mobility to jump out of the water or get there quickly at the beginning of the run.

The most obscure weapon for me would be the upgrades to the phaseblades. The weaker ones are basically just joke items on their own but then they went and got a hardmode upgrades which look exactly the same

The Toxicarp is actually my first hardmode weapon as a ranger, it also pairs well with Frost Armor with that frostburn effect.

Quick tip: The easier way (for me at least) is to use boulders to kill npcs that you don’t want (made with 6 stone at a tinkers workshop)

Poison knives are actually kind of useful at the start of the game if you're a bit lucky and find some or get a fairly early blood moon. They do decent DPS and are easy to make.

The breathing reeds purpose is the only thing I use when I make a new character in a pre-hardmode world just because it helps when you want some ocean loot although that really is the only place you can get it

I used to drown all the time so i got the idea to use the breathing rod and it helped i mostly only used it because i had extra inventory slot in my hot bar

Coming from a melee main, chain guillotines are actually a pretty fantastic well rounded weapon.

The breathing Reed came in clutch on a melee only expert run I did on mk2 seed soooo I was on the ocean and the next biome over was corruption. The Reed could hit eaters through the little hole and it was the only thing I could do to kill them at the time.

I actually used throwing knives for 1 of my runs. Pretty decent against King Slime and EoC. And during my first run, I found the breathing rod and did actually use it to explore the ocean and get some chests. Haven't used it since.

Poison Knife? Underrated. I’ve used it so many times. Saved me a ton.

I used the breathing reed once for it's purpose to try to loot an ocean chest early, but since it's garbage it barely helped. I've also been using the chain guillotines on my recent character. They're a good pre mech boss weapon imo, but after I got a daedless stormbow I only really use for regular enemies and after I beat the mech bosses it'll probably be useless. Edit: I thought I should add you can launch more chains per second with the chain guillotines by moving faster. Falling, dashing, flying, ect. All increase the throwing rate and makes the weapon much more feasible than they seem. They're also cheap to reforge and have decent base damage.

Yes I have used the breathing reed when was making a battle field for me to battle others. You would have to be the first to get the breathing reed which gave you an amazing advantage. Because it led strait to a treasure trove.

I only use reed when i can't make it to surface while using the flippers and i only use them in pre hard mode for the water Chest

I remember when the Terra blade was basically the ultimate weapon in the game, now it mostly gets skipped though.

I'm so used to using the breathing reed for its intended use I legit had no Idea it was even a weapon, same goes for the umbrella

Toxicarp is surprisingly really good when I used it. It’s great against non-boss enemies, especially at the start of hard mode and it’s also a good way to save your ammo and still have amazing DPS. Though it’s definitely not the end of the world if you want to use the endless ammos instead

The breathing Reed used to be huge in adventure maps back around 1.1. Maybe it's just me, but I actually used it a lot back then.

I knew the Terra Blade would be in here, it was famous for being one of the best weapons back in 1.2 and everyone built them but now it’s completely forgotten because it’s still a pain in the ass to make, and is no longer the best.

I actually did use the breathing Reed because i wanted to farm shark fins and last a bit longer underwater

I have used the poison knives. In 1.3 I often went for the throwing class at the beginning of the game.

Breathing reed is kinda good for corruption (and I guess crimson?) since if theres a pond somewhere u can stay in there and since eater of souls cant go in water you can just wack them while having oxygen, although you will definitely die if there are the worm monsters

I remember using the breathing reed to explore deeper into the oceans than where I could still go up for air easily.

For me, palm wood is a building material. It looks great as a gold-ish podium for master mode trophies and the furniture looks amazing. I've never crafted a single weapon with it, despite how much I use it around my base.

When making a hellavator and you end up getting flooded (don’t deny it you know it’s always gonna happen) the breathing reed really helps save time of swimming back up to the surface. (This is when you run out of gill potions) Also I ALWAYS USED THE POISON KNIVES at least when I didn’t think much about classes and stuff lol. Or when doing a throwing only challenge pre 1.4

Breathing reed is one of those items I get like 5 of and still never use. Also surprised there want snowball cannon (the one dropped by snow flinx) in this list, although I suppose it is more of a block. Edit: combat wrench is underrated btw

I was playing Thorium once and I legit thought the Sky Fracture was a thorium weapon up until after I stopped using it

I think I used the breathing rod like once or twice for it’s intended purpose, and that was to mine underwater ore without having to jump

I’ve only ever used the breathing rod in terraria mobile when lepus was still in the game

I use the breathing rod when I start a new character and world so that I can explore without drowning as much, at least until I find flippers

after some updates, some blades were given a massive boost, like hte True nights edge is not useful because it requires the mechanical boss souls
