TENCH FISHING ON THE FLOAT

Спорт

In this video we go float fishing for Tench on a stunning pond that may just contain a monster! There's something very special about Tench Fishing on the float, particularly in Spring and Summer. Pin prick bubbles coming up around the float before it slides away and you're into an awesome Tinca. We fish the lift method on this lovely little lake with handmade floats and catch some stunning fish. Please see the link below to where you can purchase these from Sam King.

I used to fish a pond in Sussex 40+ years ago. Behind Ardingly College if anyone knows that place. I raked out one heavily weeded swim one afternoon for a nights fishing. Caught 100+ small Tench up to 2 1/2lbs. Got smashed 3 or 4 times on 6lb line with unstoppable runs. Someone said there were supposedly carp in there. But I never knew of anyone catching carp from that pond nor did I know of anyone who even knew anyone, who'd caught carp there. But it's the magic of a warm summer morning or evening, on a small lily pad covered pond and float fishing for Tench. Does course fishing ever get as good as that? EDIT That male Tench at the end. They say that to find out how big the biggest female Tench are in a pond/lake, DOUBLE the size of the biggest male Tench you catch 8-))...

Those memories of when you’re a kid are all part of it. There’s lakes I’d never fish in a million years if I only wanted to catch decent fish but God! The nostalgia and the atmosphere of the venues can really light up the senses just cause of the memories! Bloody hell what a tench! Nice one Nick

My reel is freshly braided and lures are all ready to go, gotta say i can't wait to get the lures out again. There's something very special about working a lure, and triggering that hit. To me it's a great way of getting to know the topography of a venue, as you get to know all the snags and weed beds and variations of the bottom, which then helps with spring and summer chubbing too.

@@Lifeonthebank I’ll be sure to scour the catalogue! One thing I’d say though as a bit of a request as someone who is just getting back into angling in my mid-twenties after doing it as a young lad, is that it would be good to have a bit of an insight into the gear selection. For example, why are some rod test curves more suitable to different situations, how the environment affects what tackle is used, why different rigs are preferred etc. I am looking at this as a complete beginner so the more insight the better!! Obviously if you went into such granular detail for each video it would be extremely time consuming so even just the odd one would be perfect.

Could you not throw it in, clear some of that weed, at least clear a path so you can land the fish, plus stir up the bottom in the process, then return a few hours later ready to catch whatever it's attracted? Would that work?

Try using your drag on reel 😂

I have about a dozen different reels, one set of hands. The reels often change each year. I trust my hands 100% as I get to know the reels.

Hi, what rod do use for tench is a standard 13 foot float rod ok I want to start this on my local reservoir because we have got tench up to 9 lb.

Should be ok. I’m now using a 12ft rod with a 1.5lb TC. Often it the environment and style of fishing that dictates the rod. For example, I will step this up to 1.75lb TC if there’s weed, or if I decide to chuck heavy feeders. I hope that helps.

Does tench just Bomb the float under and let go as I got loads of takes like that on sweet corn and a red maggot

I fish the lift method. Quite often the float suddenly lays flat on the surface. You then know they’ve picked up the bait! 👍

I use 8lb maxima for all my tench float fishing and have never vever snapped off. I fish weed and lilly festooned lakes and the tench are animals. With tench to over 9lb in these lakes its hit and hold and other than the odd hook pull i generally win. I never pinch shot on my line using olliveties and float stops instead. What line do you use nick???

Chris McKechnie In this video I switched to 10lb ESP Syncro which made the difference. Olivettes to make sure I don’t create any weak spots. Did the trick! Maxima is a classic. Need to use what your confident with. Thanks for checking out the video! 👍👍👍

That lake could do with a good raking, so much overgrown weed

Yeah. There are rakes in every swim. If everyone raked before and after it would be a lot better.

I've had big carp 30+pound catfish and I'll say this tench are my favourite fish to catch. I would rather catch 100 tench to having g a big carp anyday

Glad you enjoyed the fishing, shame about the music! It’s kinda subjective but let’s just say that I’ve toned things down a bit in my more recent videos so maybe check those out. This one was about a year ago. Thanks for checking out the channel 👍
