I'm surprised people didn't mention more reasons. For me, 1) it's more comfortable 2) you don't have to work so hard to started after stopping 3) it's much easier to haul cargo. I do my grocery shopping on my trike and carry 40-50 lbs. of groceries. I'd never even attempt that on 2 wheels 4) you can go whatever speed you like without falling over, which is especially important on hills 5) frankly, it's just WAY more fun than riding anything on 2 wheels.

I ride a trike because a) its lawn-chair seat lets me stay on the road all day long (I was hitting 80 miles every Saturday last September), b) its heads-up riding-position lets me see without neck pain, c) its stability lets me rest without having to stop and dismount, d) I never get hand/wrist pain from my weight leaning on hand-grips, and d) for the first time in my life, I can ride so much I literally wear out two sets of tires each season.

I ride for many of the same reasons mentioned. Back issues that prevent riding a traditional bike. It’s great exercise and healthy. I ride a Catrike 559. Got my wife a Hase Trigo. I can hook up our Belgian Malinois so she can run with me and then carry her in a trailer so I do not run her too much. Just a lot of fun.

I had a stroke and have weakness and poor balance so the VA bought me a Hase, Trigo for exercise, strengthening, and safety. I ride around our small town of 10,000 in Western, WI just to see what's going on and to see what's going on around town. We have lots of nice bike paths and a University of Wisconsin which has good bike trails too..

I got a trike because I couldn't feel my vital male parts after 15 minutes with my ass on the hatchet!!! Also, I was wearing out tires on one side on the ass hatchet two wheeler, so no more balance issues, which makes riding much more care free and fun!

No pain or strain in my: 1) neck, 2) shoulders, 3) hands, 4) sitter 5) back or 6) hips (from falling). I get to look at the scenery, traffic and control signs (for safety) and other cyclists instead of the road just in front of me. When I stop, I keep my feet attached to the pedals and I don't need a kickstand or something to lean my bike against. I have better brakes than I've had on any diamond frame bike. In short: same effort, no pain & more fun.

Friends bought me a Catrike one week ago and I ride it every day for about 45 minutes. My upright simply causes so much pain in the saddle that I can’t ride it anymore. I need to ride because the exercise helps with pain management in my right leg (spine issue).

I’m not riding now. In the 90s I did 450 mile rides on a 21 speed road bike. The Dr.S tell me to stay off a 2 wheel bike because I have Parkinson’s. Last May I had a 5.5 hr back surgery. I was told to ride a exercise recumbent. I would rather ride out side and put the money towards an electric assisted trike. I’m only interested in a quality trike. But I can’t spend 4 to 5 thousand for one. Maybe up to 2500

Bought a Catrike Expedition in Feb 2021 with PaPa Biden's money. Started a few miles a day and eventually worked up to about a 100 miles a week. I have lost 40 lbs. just riding my trike. Have not felt this good in decades. Have upgraded to a Catrike 700 and I bought one for my wife also. Recumbent Trikes have changed my life in more ways than I can say. Its the most comfortable bike I have ever rode. Its the most fun bike I have ever rode and its the fastest bike I have ever rode. #CatrikeForLife

I started riding trikes because I have osteoarthritis and I couldn't walk my dog anymore. Over the years I've found that I enjoy making and riding custom trikes. I have an Industrial recumbent and 3 other regular trikes I have turned into choppers with ape hangers and springer front ends (and a buncha other stuff) . I can't ride a Harley anymore so I drive chopper trikes instead. I'm kinda the trike king of my area and all my bikes (except for the recumbent) are custom to the point where people can't recognize them as once having been store bought adult trikes.

So I'm looking at getting a recumbent trike just to get exercise around. the neighborhood. I have neck muscle radiation damage, so I stay in a recliner at home most of the time to get gravity off of my head. Local bike store had a TerraTrike (Maverick) and a CatTrike, with the CatTrike costing twice the TerraTrike. I'm wondering since I'm not going on 60 mile bike rides if I should stick to the less expensive Terra Trike. It must be comfortable with neck support so I can lean my head back.

Since you're having problems with your neck, next supports very important. You're going to have to get something with good head rest adjustment. Also may I suggest getting a trike with shocks. That Road's rough out there and with three wheels shocks are be great for you

I notice the majority of trike videos are zipping heartily along on paved trails vs the side of the road. Many of us who ride 2 wheeled bents love those paved paths but unfortunately they are not as prevalent in my neck of the woods. As I can vary the angle of my seat for aerodynamics ( speed ) or more upright ( uphills ) , I wonder at the fixed position of some of your trike seats. Your comments please . How are your trikes on gravel roads and uphill on gravel as I hate being limited as to where I can ride. Not interested in speed on gravel just the ability to climb and enjoy the scenery.

" The only way to find out is try some" That would mean buying each type and seeing how each type performs? That could prove rather expensive. I need to ride from point A ,120 km to get to the trailhead and you can imagine how much wasted effort would be used with fat tires just to get to the gravel road. So what I would need is a tadpole with lower gearing that would be for pavement mostly and the odd off road adventure just like my current Giro A 20 touring bent. I have no plans for going mountain biking with anything, ever, that is for mountain bikes. Thanks for the reply , just have to wait for the stock market to catch up to my dreams before the dreams come to fruition.

Greenspeed trikes were first to come with adjustable seat angle as well as heights. ( not all models) the magnum big wheel is the most versatile- you can get the 4" wide fat wheels optional and can also fit a 29" on the back if you like. I'll be getting one if I buy new, and the set of fats for dirt road adventures so I can get away from traffic in regional South Australia.

I notice with a single drive wheel on my tadpoles that sometimes the wheel will spin in gravel going uphill, so a delta trike with a differential like a Hase Kettweisel, or Trigo might be better for hilly loose gravel with two drive wheels.

@@pentachronic The first four problems could be due to a bad bike fit... and saddle issues. Change the saddle, use something more appropriate for your sit bones. @@arbjful Riding defensively certainly will improve your chances of not getting hit , but two wheeler bike or trike , it is the other careless person behind the wheel that will cause you grief as you cannot have eyes behind you all the time , and the number wheels you really has no bearing . As for saddle issues , sometimes no amount of changing saddles, padding or position will help , particularly when you get older , sitting in a chair as opposed to a saddle for some of us is the only comfortable non painful alternative . Not to mention the other issues with riding a diamond frame , like stress on joints like wrists shoulders , elbows , neck , hip still apply . Cheers .

If you get a trike set up right for your body, your feet and butt will not be numb. You will still be slower going up hills. You can go off road with the right trike, gearing, and fat tires,. You will be only slightly wider than a bike. You will not be too low to the ground, because after all, car drivers see signs painted on roads and they see curbs and squirrels and turtles on the pavement. The only time you will be too low is if you are stupid and pull up beside a car that's stopped, waiting to turn, and the driver doesn't turn his or her head to see you and starts up and clobbers you, same as they would an ass hatchet bike. Yep, trikes can be more expensive, but don't have to be. Nope, you won't do jumps or tricks, so save your ass hatchet for those. Yes, old people ride 'em because two wheelers flat out hurt crotches and men, and women, too! I have also had many young people tell me my trike is cool and they want one. I also wish I had found my trike when I was 22 instead of 72. This much fun should be illegal!

@@arbjful I have a room full of bicycle seats ranging from wide to narrow and no padding to gel or memory foam with suspension and suspension seat post, plus air shocks on the forks and I still can't ride five miles without pain. If I ride 15 miles I can't sit on a bike for a week. It used to be I could ride 40 miles in a day and ride 40 more the next day and 40 the day after. Things change and I will be selling off my four two wheel bikes now that I have two trikes because if I want to ride 50 miles a day, I can again
