Jeff you did a great job a clean installation thank for sharing. Paul Northern California.

Nice job! I installed similar system to my 559. Same battery mount but with a shelf. Positioning the mount as high as possible while still being able to recline seat as far back as possible took time to figure out at least for me. But it’s done and I can carry a second battery on left side.

I did a similar install but with the CYC Photon mid drive. One thing I did different is I mounted the motor on top of the boom, up against the tube that held the front derailleur, rather than below it. I felt that the torque produced by the motor will try to rotate the motor up and if I stop quick and the nose dips down the motor is safer on top.

T-Cycle has a Mini T With a hole so you can route the cables down the interior of the handle bar. That way you don't have all the wires zip tied to the outside. Makes for a cleaner install.. May i suggest video taping idea..? wear a white Tshirt when standing behind black items so that we can see the details and use natural sunlight. That way we don't miss out on seeing what you are doing with your silent video.. :) PEACE..

FYI you may want to reconsider your choice of motors ,I put one of these motors on my recumbent trike and it worked ok for a while but then the gears stripped out on the inside and it cant be fixed so I changed to a 1000 watt hub motor 36 volt sys. And it will run 30 mph with know problem ,Ive had it now for 2 years and it still going strong .good luck with yours.

There are replacement gear for these motors, both plastic and metal.

Which kit did you buy? I see several listed at the link you posted.

The video is about installing the battery bracket not a mid drive.

I am going to get one of these installed for my Catrike Expedition. Is there much difference between this one and the Defang unit?

How did you find the Tongsheng? It has a much better pedal sensor than Bafang but I found the Tongsheng 500-watt motor quite a bit less powerful than the Bafang 500-watt mid-drive.

So it's been a few months now. How do you like the Tongsheng system? Is there anything you don't like? Would you choose this again over the Bafang?

LOL my actionbent tadpole peaks at 1500 watts with a Nine Continent direct drive hubbie on the back and I have burned 23% fewer chains after 23000 miles since 2008 as indicated on my cycleanalyst..why the pissing contest?

Thank you all for commenting on the video. I'll give you an update of sorts... 1. I sold the trike a couple of months after the motor upgrade. Not because I didn't like the upgrade, on the contrary, it performed very well. I sold it because I decided I rather ride a diamond frame bike vs a recumbent. I used the proceeds from the sale to buy a Trek Allant 7+. 2. My future videos include ADR narration and/or music. This was my first "how I did it" video. Like other comments. I dislike a lot of music in videos so I use it vary sparingly. 3. IMO, this is still cheaper than buying one of the Catrike e-bikes. Though they are more "baked", this upgrade was well with it. 4. This is my last comment. This video isn't monetized. I just put it out there because there wasn't anything else like it at the time 🙂
