Gulf News Living in the UAE Editor, Huda Tabrez, joins Tell Me Why podcast host Maria Botros to discuss the advantages of working as a freelancer in the UAE and best practices to get the most out of the experience.
The first step for freelancers wishing to work in the UAE is to get a permit
Freelancers can get permits from freezones or mainland companies
Residents can have a full-time job but also do part-time jobs for an extra source of income without breaking the law
Freelancers should get all agreements in writing to secure rights

This was so useful thank you !
Thankyou for this great interview
It's really hard to get a bank account as a freelancer in the UAE because banks ask for a local salary certificate and don't care about your expatriate income. Without a bank account, you won't be able to rent an apartment or pay local utility bills.
Great information to got more acknowledged
Interestingly, Dubai doesn't have a mainland freelance permit yet. I kept asking MOHRE and they confirmed you can't get it (yet). So is it only theory?
Wonderful,nicely presented🎉

Thanks❤❤❤
Very eye-opening discussion. Thanks for sharing. Any pointers for getting a suitable contract in place? Are there UAE-specific clauses to consider when preparing a contract?
How can one apply for any type of visa on the GDRFAD page without a sponsor. On every application that I open they need a address in dubai. So to move to dubai you need an address and phone number in dubai. It's like a chicken and egg scenario.
