Tell me about yourself interview for experienced candidate and fresher 2024

How to best answer Tell me about yourself interview question for experienced and freshers. How to introduce yourself in English in an interview for MBA or job. Samples & examples for experienced candidates, freshers, college students with no experience.
You'll learn about a simple but powerful framework (called INSPIRE) to structure your self-introduction for a job interview or for college / MBA placements.
The video includes two good sample answers to Tell me something about yourself in under 1-minute based on real profiles:
1. The sample answer for experienced candidates is based on Sameer's experience. He created it as a backup pitch, in case MBA Crystal Ball failed to gain traction and he needed to go back to the corporate world to get a regular job.
2. The second one has been recorded by a real student, and again based on her actual credentials.

That's actually a VERY good video. You've covered just about everything. Clear, succinct, and actionable for almost any viewer at any level. You're 100% right, the "tell about oneself" is amongst the toughest ones to answer well. I particularly liked: 1) the advice around structuring one's answer. Most candidates will "lose" their interviewer very quickly, and this would minimally keep the latter interested, therefore the candidate in the hunt. 2) your indicating the # of candidates in the field for the role & how many the interviewer might have to converse with. The larger and more competitive the field, the more monotonous the profiles will appear to interviewers. So the question becomes one that helps them differentiate candidates. Content, confidence, brevity and (grammatically sound) articulation - ALL of these together go (in my view) 80-90% to create the strongly positive first impression. If not the job, certainly enough to get one to the next stage in a process with multiple interviews. Good answers to this will also inspire the interviewer to "advocate" a candidate to subsequent interviewers.

Very insightful perspectives! You've mentioned several excellent points that enhance the message in the video - especially the challenges from the interviewer's point of view, the importance to use this question as a tool to stand out from the crowd and (in the best case scenario) convert the interviewer into an advocate.

Regardless of whether the interview is for a job or for MBA applications, the most important filter to keep in mind when you're answering is - Relevance! In most cases, where you were born and which school you went to have very little relevance to your overall positioning. There are exceptions as well, but in rare cases. Also keep in mind that you don't have unlimited time to share everything. Want to try a creating and sharing dummy answer without revealing your personal details and using proxy company/college names, but real career goals? I'd be happy to help you fine-tune it.

Good framework to structure your introductory pitch. However, misses the most important aspect of personal touch. Something, where you connect your professional experience with your personal story. Who are you as a person(Who also happens to be a professional in a given context). Think of this way, you are a collection of everything that has happened in your life. Talk about where you come from, how the environment and education shaped you as a person, what were those, how all of it made sense and led you to take up certain roles and the experiences and achievement you brought, and finally how and why you are here interviewing for this prestigious position. Share your excitement and they will see a great professional who happens to be a great human being.

Thanks for pitching in. And you touch upon some great points, including the importance of having a personal touch. While we've tried to keep our sample answers crisp (under 1 minute), there's no hard and fast rule to do so. It could extend by another minute or two as well - and that would allow more personal information to be shared. But it's also crucial to keep in mind the risks of trying to squeeze in too much into the very first answer. If we put all our cards on the table at once, the mystery and intrigue factor can dissipate quickly, turning the rest of the interview monotonous. Having said that, if the candidate can include a teaser in this answer, the interviewer might be interested in exploring it further in the subsequent questions. We appreciate the thought and effort you've put into commenting here, and we'd love to see more comments from you on our other videos too!

Awesome video! Worst Answer- I think you have not seen my CV that's why you are asking this! Better answer- Don't talk about things that are on the CV. Talk about what you like best in your job, any major achievement that may not be described in detail on the CV. Take the discussion towards your strengths. Push them to ask questions in areas you are comfortable. For example if you tell you solved a big issue using some good design principles and in a particular programming language the follow up questions may come from there. And will be easier for you to handle. You may also bring in some personal traits into your answer. For example - 1. I thrive on challenges that's why I loved solving this issue. 2. My parents, who are into XYZ job always told me to approach problem solving this way... This way you are telling about your growing up and your parents but in an indirect manner.

While the question is cliched it is so because it's still used very widely - both in the MBA world and the professional world. Many times, this may not be in fact the 'first' question or interaction you have with the interviewer - most would have your CV. If you know that they do, skip starting with, 'Hi, my name is XYZ'. Doing so make the interview overtly formal and made-up - more than what it already is!

There are no guarantees of a stable long-term career even with an M7 program. Rotman, Tepper or Darden in the pocket would've made the decision easier. But with those options ruled out, you'll have to revisit the original must-have list to see if Sauder ticks all/most of the boxes. Do you see any big issue in taking up Sauder over the other admits? One potential concern might be the fact that US offers more MBA jobs than any other country, including Canada. Also, H1B has been a challenge for a long time, so many international students concerned about it have been opting for STEM MBA programs. Was that on the radar?

@@MBACrystalBall That is definitely true! There is no way of ensuring a safe career trajectory, especially in today's volatile job market( I wish I had a crystal ball to see the future😅) Canada definitely lacks in post MBA job opportunities and the comoensation is lower. That is one of my major concerns. However, if I am able to get a job opportunity, then it is smooth sailing to thr PR. I can switch later to my desired role which isnt the case in US as there are alot of restrictions in terms of visa sponsorship so as a result only 20% of thr job market is open to int. students. If i go with UNC, i would be able to just break even in 3 year opt period. After that it would be based totally on luck as the H1B draw would come into place. Thqt is where evaluating the market value of a UNC degree in the canadian or Indian market would come into play.
