Tell Me About Yourself - Structure a Strong Answer
My Premium Resume Package: jeffsu.gumroad.com/l/premium-...
The “Tell me about yourself” question is by far the most important question to get right because not only will it set the tone for the rest of the interview, but also you will get a huge confidence boost right at the beginning if start off correctly.
Too often candidates tell their life stories when answering “Tell me about yourself” even when that’s going to bore the interviewer at best, and work against you at worst. This video is about how to easily answer the interview question: Tell Me About Yourself.
Here, I teach you the simple steps to structure a strong answer to this common interview question. I skip over all the other more “common advice” you might find in other videos and jump right into (1) The Present, Past, and Future answer structure, (2) The Highlight Method, and (3) Providing a sample answers and examples that have worked for me and many co-workers here at Google.
So whether you are a fresher / fresh grad looking for a sample answer, or an experienced professional looking for an answer structure, this video is a great resource. You will learn how to apply the concepts here and also avoid common mistakes others make when answering “tell me about yourself.”
This is a must watch before your next interview, good luck!

I have some questions: 1. I’ve been rejected from about 50 interviews. (In the last one they found the excuse that I could have given more examples. There must have been 20 to 30 perfectly given interviews with no feedback at all. The feedback I got from a lot of them is that they went for another candidate). 2. Before the pandemic it only took around 4 interviews to secure a new role 3. I went to a top business school and have half a decade of experience working for blue chip companies 4. *I’ve been given the advice by some corporate operatives that I could still somehow secure a role at a top company even if I’ve been unemployed for half a dozen years* *Is it discrimination? Is it bias because there is money involved? I would just like to know what is going on as I’m being forced to retire early abroad/take a career break in the summer*.

Thank you much for this video. In the interviews as a Christian and a mobile software engineer (senior) I am, I used to humble myself that I didn't bring up those big achievements I had made before. Glad to hear it! You're very welcome!
I often worried about if throw out the accomplishment upfront, then I am afraid to reuse the same story if they ask " what's your biggest accomplish"

Hi Ren, this is actually a really good question! For "tell me about yourself" you should only highlight a small part of the accomplishment (e.g. "I drove 150% increase in sales due to my proactive problem solving skills") and when they ask you "SO what's your biggest accomplishment" you use the CARL method to deep dive and start by saying "So when I drove the 150% increase in sales, I was working on the XYZ team...." Does that make sense?
