It's just glass that reflects a monitor! I thought it was an actual special display that showed the words on it. Herp-a-derp...I feel special.

All this time, I thought it's like a tinted glass to shield the eyes from too much lights on the stage. I also one thought it's a teleprompter but it appears to be just only a transparent glass so there's no way it can reflect.

Louis_J Well, you do need special glass to better reflect the image, but you are correct. The angle of the splitter will prevent the audience from seeing the text. If operators are using older hardware/software, then they would need image flipping monitors, as the laptop might not have the GPU power to flip it and maintain a smooth scroll. Typically speaking it is easier to have the hardware do the flipping as it takes a processing load off of your computer.

At 2:25 , why does the woman with the long dark hair say "...so that everybody feels encumbered."? The word "encumbered" means "burdened" or "loaded down with useless rubbish". How does that apply here? Perhaps she meant "engaged"? Perhaps she should have read her speech from a teleprompter. ;-)

Also claims monitors have to be special to reverse the text. That is what the program or app does, reverses the text. Either way dumbing it down or will just say whatever she thinks will make a sale.

A couple of questions: 1) Why doesn't the TV viewer see the stands holding the reflecting glass? 2) Why isn't the setup visible when a distant camera takes a wide angle view? These questions would apply to a State of the Nation address for example.

you see the stands when you look closely / in images for press they are often PSed away ;)

That shows the greatness of the work of the director; they are there, you see the speaker, but you don't clearly see the massive screens and their stands. I think it takes an experienced group to setup the whole speech properly, to include cameras, audience and teleprompters.

  • @thecommidor6653

They do for outside events so that the speaker can see the monitors more clearly as they can be difficult to read in sunlight. But to answer your question, from the audiences perspective, it looks like the speaker is looking right at them. If it was 1 way mirror, the solid coating would block the speaker’s face for some people.
