Telecaster Setup KEEF STYLE 5-String Open G Tuning - The Setup That Changed Rock n Roll! 🎸

Ойын-сауық

Plenty of other recording artists, including John Lee Hooker, Duane Allman, George Thorogood have used open G tuning in their recordings. But Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones brought it to another level in his Rock n Roll playing, large portions of his masterpiece Exile on Main Street having been written in open G.
Ry Cooder was a master blues player and was allegedly the one who turned Keef on to this style of bluesey chunking in open G. It's a really easy configuration to play upon, whether your a master or a newbie.

Dude, I always have to look it up, I never automatically remember 😂 But that guitar's going to be in that configuration for a while, so I might as well crank out a few Rock n Roll tunes. Might be a nice break from Country, which I also love, but not necessarily in this tuning.

Cool. I thought I heard Keef say somewhere that there's also old school 5 string open G acoustic blues that predated him but he kind of rediscovered it for electric guitar.

That's one sweet guitar , Ron ! (I think the Pink Floyd song "Fearless" is in one form of an open ",G" major tuning ...) Also, "Gimme Shelter" is in an open "E" (I think) it's definitely in an open tuning , the original studio version is ...... For sure Damn man, id LOVE to sit & jam with you dude!

Yeah, I love Keith, but he's not the most accurate or articulate player, so losing the low string makes loads of sense. I use open G a lot. For me it's worth having the extra range the sixth string gives you, even if it might seem to be in the way at times. Nice demonstration on a very nice Tele. Thanks Ron.

Scott! What's up buddy, yeah I agree with everything you've said and my high regard for Keith is mainly as a songwriter and performer, though in his best moments he can kill it. Within the Stones, Ronnie fills in as primary guitarist a lot, which is why is was an excellent choice to replace Mick Taylor, in my opinion Ronnie has been the best guitarist in that position to showcase Mick and Keith's songs. I sometimes tune one of my acoustic guitars in open G, usually the Taylor 414ce, with all six strings and get out a chord chart and learn some songs using all six strings, but usually not Rock n Roll unless it's on a chorus or something. But I digress, thanks for commenting, great to see you!

Ron Ward - Strange Machine Records Very cool how about we go to a whole new level. What we'd do from here (this one requires reinstalling the 6th saddle) is move those 5 strings over one position & add on a .007 Gauge High G4 string. Then we'd end up w/ what we call Open G Terz Tuning (G2, D3, G3, B3, D4, G4) which takes the Keith Richards 5 string Open G Tuning & adds on a High G4 string so it'll sound a bit brighter & clear. Another way to think of Open G Terz Tuning is if you took a Regular 6 string Guitar, tuned it to Open E, & put a capo on the 3rd Fret, that's what we'll have:kzread.info/dash/bejne/e4R2s8ywg8atm6w.html I think for Open G Terz Tuning we'll need to get a set of Dunlop 7-38 Gauge Ultra-Light Strings.
