Tekton Torque Wrench Review

Tekton Vs MAC! I thought I would compare this Tekton torque wrench to this MAC. Both torque wrenches are very similar, will the Tekton be close to the MAC?

amzn.to/2PAaupX Tekton ½ in drive torque wrench
I’ve had this Tekton torque wrench now for over a year and I have been very pleased with it. I thought I would compare it to this MAC torque wrench to see if it was accurate. After tightening some leaf spring bolts I am very pleased with how the Tekton wrench did. For the money I think it will be hard to beat. Tekton has a pretty good reputation for standing behind their tools. Remember that for any click style torque wrench to always return the wrench to it’s lowest setting before storing to maintain it’s accuracy.

That’s not a valid test, because the breakaway friction once a nut is stopped moving can be considerably higher to get it restarted again. To do a valid test you should torque it to a certain setting mark the flat on the nut against the spring housing, loosen the nut up and then tighten it again with the other wrench at the same setting and see if the flat ends up about the same spot.

This real-life, hands-on test is a great way to evaluate the accuracy of these torque wrenches. I was trying to decide between buying a Tekton or Lexivon, and this video helped me decide. Thank you for doing it!

That test works for me...I'd suspect the threads were stretching on that troublesome bolt and not a reflection of the accuracy of the wrenches...

Not impressed with the Mac. One thing that the test didn't show is whether or not one of the wrenches over-torqued. If the Mac over-torqued on that last bolt that gave you fits, the Tekton would still click, so you wouldn't know for sure if either are right.

This test couldn't prove which one was better or worse because u would have to had 1 of the 2 torque wrenches calibrated first. Without doing that u can't tell if there both off to begin with lol.

What makes the Tekton good is the price. If you have the money though there are better options. But I think for home use it is good.

What exactly is "home use" where a torque wrench would be needed???

@@tjzulu1apparently he means DIY mechanics lol. I think it is fine for “work” jobs. Just because it cost more doesn’t make it any better.
