If all of dice masters was sold this way (without boosters), I would so be buying into it.

Just wanted to correct one thing Tom mentioned in the review. Near the end of the review he says that he didn't believe this set had any global abilities. However, several of the basic action cards have globals on them. Nothing too major. I just wanted to make sure that was pointed out. Thanks for the review!

I've been waiting to hear your impressions on this. Hopefully preorders go up soon on CSI! I've yet to play any of the Dice Masters, but this set has me intrigued.

Tom, the dice look purple in the video and the lighting is off, the same as the last Q&A, maybe I'm wrong but I think you need to recalibrate the white balance of that camera.

In another video you said you liked the Spider-Man set the best. I'm a huge fan of both TMNT and Spidey, so which of the two do you recommend for me as I will be buying my first Dice Master set?

Looks like a must buy for me! Does anyone know when this is going to be released?

It is weird how the cards mess up some of the basic designs. Like how is "Leonardo - Big Brother"'s text any different from the other Turtle Power ones? Why isn't it listed as Turtle Power? I'll also echo what others say about the art from different periods that really conflict. Hard to get into it when everything looks so mashed up.

Getting rid of the collectability aspect is quite overdue on our one and ONLY terrestrian spaceship, that is simply running on finite resources... And on another note: Profit maximization or our monetary system in general wont solve any problem of our time. I know, it is not popular bringing this up, regarding our lighthearted and fun centered hobby, but somehow and sometimes reviewers forget, amongst the flood of "free" review copies about the need for sustainability for our future. And the likes of legacy games & CCG/CDG are ways to first of all monetarize without any second thought to prevent overconsumption or pollution.

Hear, hear! I would actually go even further and say that maybe it's time for us, as a species, to stop producing board games all together. I love dice as much as the next guy but they're simply not a luxury we can afford in these trying times.

I'm so excited! I enjoy boosters but for TMNT I think having a complete set is perfect.

The only thing that kept me away from DM was that you needed to buy boosters in order to get better cards/dice, like in a tcg. This on the other hand is more like a ccg, and it should be like this. Might buy it

Weird decision on the pastiche art-style. Character cards are interesting. Some of the cheaper ones (or that big shredder) may be promising. Basics are amazing. I like that they keep improving the manuals. :3 seems like a good starter deck and a good first "all-included" set.

Where can I find your original Dice Master video?

The mix of having both the Mirage Turtles and the '87 cartoon Turtles seems weird. Especially when there is a modern Turtles cartoon currently running on Nickelodeon and its logo is on the box rather than the logos of the early Turtles that are featured..

the 87 turtles appear in the most recent series every so often. They have been in about 4-5 episodes with more crossovers planned

no because each card can only have max of 3 die in this set so I wouldnt waste the money on 2 sets

I like this is stand alone, I am going to get rid of my other dice masters because it's just to much filler product. This should make a nice stand alone game to fill that itch.

Master Splinter is awesome, that's why we have two.

+RayLancer The 2 Splinters is a poor decision. Wizkids doesn't make a lot of sense lately with their basic set choices and this one takes the cake. I'd like to have a one-on-one with the person who makes these decisions (probably a committee rather than a single person) to find out why they do this.

Maybe the two Splinters hints at a second box in the future which has Alts of the characters in this box so that you can mix and match to have a full set of cohesive comic Or cartoon versions of the Turtles? I know there won't be booster packs but did Whiz Kids rule out a second self contained box for TMNT?

i think is a kind of easter egg, because in the original cómic splinter was hamato yoshi's pet seeking revange for yoshi's death, but in the cartoons splinter was hamato himself who mutated into a rat

Random Brainiac die in your drop pile? Lol. The two Splinter thing is kind of an odd decision, but one I can forgive seeing as this was made for pairs. What really bothers me about this set is every card is max 3 dice. For the higher cost cards this will never be an issue. However, for the 2-3 cost range, this puts them far below value for comparative sets. Pizza is one I can see getting a lot of play for one reason only. 3 cost dice. You always have that one floating left over in the early game and nothing to spend it on, now you have pizza, which is a 50/50 2 extra energy to ramp later on into more powerful stuff. This could alleviate some of the 2cost rush.

How is this one 4 players ??

As a note, the turtles showing up in the Marvel universe is part of their origin story anyway.

$26 to $29 on MM. And a tin set too. Interesting.

Even though I don't really like Dice Masters, I thought my TMNT love was going to make this an insta-buy. I was wrong. I just really don't like Dice Masters. I'll just wait for my TMNT board game to be delivered to my doorstep.

+anxietydown It looks like he didn't properly white balance the video. Everything is slightly tinted purple-ish which throws it off a lot.

Pizza Time had a Global ability, pay 1 shield if you were less than 10 life, gain 1 life.

You sold me the second you said it was a complete set in one box. I would not be the least bit torn up if this became standard practice going forward. Honestly, Wizkids stance towards the number of Super Rare cards in sets bugs me. "We don't expect players to collect everything." It's like they don't understand their audience, like, at all. That, or they're lying through their teeth. I'd also support something like how Card Wars does things, wherein the contents of packs is randomized, but you'll end up with the same thing every time if you buy the whole box. It makes completing sets a simple process, but also facilitates limited formats like draft and sealed deck. It DOES bother me that all the dice are Max 3 though. In the collectible sets, 4 is pretty much the standard, though frankly I think it will only really be relevant for the Foot Ninja dice, because the Swarm mechanic encourages running as many copies of the same die as possible.

Looks like someone copy and pasted the artwork from screen shots of the comic and various shows. I think that was a bad call. And they don’t correct that in the next version of tmnt

I really like they mixed the art from all the forms of the show and comics

I don't like the art design; some turtle cards are four colored headbands, some are the all red. I don't like the inconsistency.

+mgk2020 The art that has the single, red, headband across all turtles are the original comic book artwork from the 80's. The "Saturday morning cartoon" ones are from the 90's when the television studio thought kids couldn't tell the turtles a part by their belts and weapons. It's 100% consistent with all the turtle media and merchandise available on the market.

+mgk2020 I'm actually totes on board for the style variations, it seems like they mostly relegated the cartoon style to the action cards which makes for a really funny contrast between using the gritty classic turtles but throwing down wacky bonuses for them. At least all the selected art looks deliberate, and they didn't just use screenshots from the cartoon again (yu-gi-oh).

+Joseph Lynn I'm not a turtle fan, but I do enjoy superheroe comics. Both have had a few incarnations (comic book, movies, cartoons, etc.) I think it's cool they acknowledge the variety of the franchise. You have silly Pizza and Cowabunga!, but also a Killer Blow that's really destructive. Just another take on it.

mgk2020 No, I get that. I'm not saying "You must like this or else!" haha. I'm just saying it has a reason to be like this, that it doesn't necessarily mean it's a cash grab, taking a few random pictures and calling it a game. Now I'd actually like to see cards for the DC sets that are not only based in the comics. It would be fun to have the cartoons there too. Again, personal opinion. Just offering a different perspective.

true, but still. that's a makor lack of variety. especially as most of the hero dice work best together and the same seems to be true for the villains.

Inconsistent art kills it for me. I see a game as an overall work of art in itself - half Bob Ross, half Jim Lee wouldn’t work for me, and neither does this. Not to mention there are different turtles universes depicted here.

I do not at all like the inconsistent artwork :l
