For all the people that are saying that this is confusing or the game looks to complicated should watch the gameplay between Rodney and Luke after watching this tutorial. This tutorial is actually really awesome, you just might be having to much rules thrown at you at once and need to see how its played.

This guy does a good job, I can see why Marvel themselves use his video.

I understand the opinion of those that say this game is confusing. It LOOKS confusing. Even watching someone explain it is still a little confusing. Once you sit down and play it, inside 10 minutes you will have it down cold. It plays almost exactly like Quarriors with a few differences, both in game and the actual ability to construct a team. This will make for more strategic decisions, which will make it a better game. I've got the starter and a whole mess of expansion packs already pre-ordered! Can't wait for them to come in!

I've never played a dice game but I'm excited about this. It was a bit confusing at first, but after watching the follow up play-through's, I came back and watched this again. It made much more sense to me. I'm okay with the collectible nature, but it just means no tournament play for me. People invest far too much money in making sure they get the best cards for a casual player like myself to enjoy entering a tournament. Look forward to playing with my friends, brother and kids though :)

They've said that card power won't be related to rarity. So while the rare and super rare cards will be different (and it's very possible that some will be very good), there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to compete with commons and uncommons.

FaereSedura That's one of the BIG reasons why I love this game. It's for casual AND competing players alike. While it's all about having fun, it is NO fun when you sit with your friends every week and constantly lose. With MTG people would spend lots of money to get those rare cards to build the ultimate deck. The system they have in place for this game keeps the playing field even. This game stays fun!

Yeah me and my friends have all agreed that with this game...none of us will be going online to buy singles. We'll buy packs and play strictly with what we pull. We have magic and a couple other card games we play where we buy singles for our decks...and we have those games to play at a more serious level... But it's so much fun to have at least 1 game where you're not cherry picking the best cards/figures/dice off the internet...but taking a more relaxed and casual approach to the game by playing with what you pull. It's going to suck when one of us pulls a super or 2 and start dominating for that reason though! haha :P

Don't understand how people got confused by this, I thought he explained everything well and was fairly concise. But then again, I play all kinds of board and card games so I understood the basics fairly quickly. I'd like to see a full playthrough just to get an idea of the pace of the game. IE: how quickly people reset their dice bags and how fast heroes go in and out of play in the early and late stages. I think there is some interesting strategy here and I'm looking forward to seeing more and probably picking up a set for me and my friends. Also, is the game only 2 player specific, or can you have 3-4 or more players as long as they are using different hero cards?

Probably would be nice to link his youtube page, just saying!

This game makes me think of a hybrid between your standard dice building games (see Quarriors) and your collectable card games (see Magic: The Gathering). I am not really a big comic book fan but I freaking love MDM it is one of my favorite games

A playthrough would have a less confusing effect than a pretend play. But for me, i have quite an understanding and tolerance with games involving dice and board-games in general, so with this one i'm more interested on what marvel characters they put; galactus.. onslaught... legion... we'll see.

To all the people very interested in this game but feeling confused, I can relate! However, after watching some other people play this game and asking a couple of questions I began to understand it. I've been playing this for about three weeks and it gets better with practice. It's very similar to Magic the Gathering. Simply start out with your sidekick dice, try getting enough resources/energy to summon as many characters you can and try attacking/defending, then as you become more experienced try using the basic action cards and the special abilities your characters possess.

My back-order was finally fulfilled and I got the game. Appreciate the clearly described steps of a round. Today... we play.

Wow there's so much they could do with these dice/cards combos! Dark avengers: new cards using the standard dice. Marvel zombies: new cards and dice with some black marbled plastic. Galactus: giant (twenty sided) die with special scenario rules.

ok question so when you recruit a character die do you roll it to determine which level it comes in at?

The 0-recruit 1/1 side kick die cannot be spent as energy correct? Also, do the prep area dice go toward the 4 you draw at the start of each turn?

Could you explain how to play the global with: Magneto Sonderkommando. It states pay a mask energy to reroll any villain die. Well if this global is used against me, what will happen when Magneto is rerolled and turns into energy. WIll it go in your used pile or in your reserve/prep? I was wondering if a character gets KO'd then at the start of that persons next turn they are able to roll the KO'd dice with the 4 draw dice? Also how long does an action dice or energy dice stay in reserve pool if you choose to leave it there? Just your turn and then your opponent? Then it goes back into the used pile? Can't wait to play it

After attacking, are the dice tapped, like in magic, until the next turn, or are they discarded back into the dice pool? and do they stay out on the field until you do something with them?

There is no tapping/any character dice that survived damage goes back to the field zone. any character that did not goes to the KO. a dice that went through to hit your opponent goes to the used pile. after the attack step all characters in the field zone replenish back to full health and the next player begins his turn.

Love Quarriors but this game with random expansion packs are not for me. That's why I love LCG's over CCG's. I still love the mechanics of these dice duels.

im a little lost on one of the cards, and want to make sure I play it right, Psylock has an ability that says "purchase cost" in the text, is that the cost of buying to die or the cost to field it??? thank you for your help and these vids where awesome to learn on! also there are some new rules coming in to play for used dies please make a vid of those rules ty

Purchase cost is the price you pay to initially buy that die. Fielding cost is the price you pay to, well, field it.

Yes, but Cap would have to block it at the start of the main phase. As it is, Rodney opted to show him joining forces with Beast so they had enough Attacks together to knock Human Torch out. After blocking Torch, Cap's turn has been used, so he can't then be reassigned to block Spidey as well.

What do you do with the dice after they are knocked out?

Im supposed to be playing this game tomorrow at a gaming club but after watching this video, im even more confused that when i started.... Hopefully watching others play will help

No, If after pulling you do not have enough dice to add up to 4 you place the dice from your used into your bag. If you do not have enough dice to add up to 4 after that you take 1 damage for each die you could not pull, and gain 1 generic energy for each die not pulled.

I have a VERY comon question, and its being in the forum FOR AGES without answer, what happens when a card like Cerebro "cybernetic intelligence" is used? it only says KO one opposing die, it means you can KO another Cerebro die if the opponent has one? or a Mjolnir die? i mean is KO applied to the Cerebro itself that reads "that die remains there untill a character or action removes it?" can you KO those dice too? its kinda confusing since KO should only apply to characters and sidekicks and "remove, move or place" for the rest of the dice, can you answer this please ASAP? being in the forum snce this card came out and we have no reply yet )= thnx in advance

CycloneMetal After doing their damage, they are put into the used pile, so they will only go into the bag once you have less than 3 dice left in your bag, along with all the others in used pile (after clearing down). Remember, once you first purchase character dice they go into the used pile, so you have to draw them out of the bag that first time before you get to deploy them.

King of Tokyo is a great dice game (and is more basic).

At the end of your turn you put all the side lock and character dice back in to the bag. The character dice are they now used as energy and can’t be used attack or defend no more because they were ko’d? Also how do you decide on the stats of the characters? Do you roll for the stats or just decide which one you want? If so wouldn’t everyone just go for the highest attack and defence stats?

You don't put the dice from the Used pile into the bag until there are no more dice left _in_ the bag. When you go to draw dice and find you don't have enough, you take all those dice in the Used pile, put them in the bag, then draw until you have the four you need. If a character is KO'd, that doesn't go into the Used pile, but into the Prep area. When you draw dice for your next turn, any dice in your Prep area get added to the four you draw from the bag. So if a character gets knocked out, it goes into the prep area, then on your next turn, you draw four dice from the bag, add the die in your Prep area, and roll all five for your turn (this is how you afford to buy those expensive cards from your team; if you have a die on your team that costs 9 energy to buy, 4 dice aren't gonna be enough under any circumstances). Each character has three sets of stats, one on each of three sides of the die, and three energy faces, and when you roll the character die after drawing it, the face landing up is what you get. So you might get a Level 1, 2 or 3 character, or you might get energy for buying other stuff. There _are,_ however, some special rules that allow you to "spin" a character die that you've already fielded up or down; maybe a particular character gets KO'd, and you have a rule that allows you instead re-field it at a lower level... or a character may be able to "spin up" to a higher level based on the presence of other characters. But those rules will be on the cards; you'll know them when you see them.

+Marquis Usually each would choose some of the basic action cards. Then both of you can buy those action dice. About the characters, remember this is a "first game easy setup". on Watch it played channel you find also a complete game. You could put more than 2 dice on a character card, usually up to 4 but it depends on the character card. However in a starter set you get 2 dice for each of the characters coming with it.

Hi I have a question please. I can't wrap my mind around one simple thing. And maybe you could help with this please. Basic action cards and there matching color dice . Are they color specific when you pay to use their abilities when you pay their cost? In other words do you have to use their specific color die to pay their cost? Let say you have a brown color die in your reserve pool and an orange color die there to. Could you use a brown color die to pay for a orange color basic action ablility? Or do you have to use only the brown color die to pay for the brown basic action ability? And vise versa ? This confusing to me. Could you help with this please ? thank you !!

The colour of the basic action dice is purely to remind you which _action_ they represent. So in this example game, if you buy a Gold action die for 3 energy, that's going to be a Force Beam die. It doesn't require any particular _type_ of energy to buy, so you can use any of the normal faces, a Wild (question mark), or generic energy. _No_ die cost is based on colour, just energy symbols (Mask, Bolt, Fist, Shield or Wild). Next time you play the game, you might put a Red reminder card under the Force Beam card and then it'll need red action dice instead.

i play every tcg on the market and this killed me trying to understand it.....but i am curious about it now lol il have to look into it

What size is that player board? Is it A4 paper size?

The maximum amount of character cards you can have are 8 and the maximum amount of dice (Character-wise. This doesn't include sidekick dice or basic action dice.)are 20. It's a super fun game that I highly recommend. The booster packs are only $.99 and come with two dice and two cards.

$14.95 for Core, and .99c for an expan, i live in Australia, so when we get this game a year later, it will be $29.95 for Core and $3.99 for Expan for us. fml.

Do character die that are in the used pile section also get cleared into the dice bag......?

They get cleared into the dice bag when the bag is empty and you need to draw additional dice.

when is the release date for this game?

some questions:. 1: can u buy the beast for example with 2 questionmarks ? or do u need to have a Fist along with 1 questionmark or another energy? 2: can u save energy dices? for example use 2 save 2? 3: and does the none basic actions count as a hero? u are allowed to bring 8 heroes into battle. can i bring 8 different heroes and actions beside that? for example a mjølnir and 8 heroes.

1: The Beast card here costs two energy and has a Mask symbol, so you need to pay 2 energy, at least one of which has to be a Mask; the other energy can be whatever you like. But the question mark is Wild, so that can be whatever type you need, so if you didn't roll any Masks, you can use a Wild instead to satisfy that criteria. 2: If you don't need to spend all your energy during your turn, you can keep any spare in your Reserve pool during your opponent's turn; you'd mostly do this if you want to keep some back to use a Global ability (take note of the costs of any Global abilities on the cards, so you know what's useful to you). At the end of your opponent's turn, any energy left in your Reserve pool is wasted and goes into the Used area. 3: Yeah, the non-basic actions, which you get from expansions, count toward the characters you pick for your team. So in this case, taking a Mjølnir card would leave you with 7 other spots for character cards.

I see they have dc and marvel are both of the games the same? My friends tell me they are the same I just want to know for sure

Yes. You can combine Marvel, DC, DnD, YuGiOh and TMNT characters. That is the main strategy of the game. Creating your own team using different expansions.

No; if you look at the faces depicted on the card, level 1 has a 1,3,3, (Fielding cost, Attacks, Defence), Level 2 is 2,5,4, and Level 3 is 2,5,5. The first die he shows is a 1,3,3 (Level 1), and the other is 2,5,5 (Level 3).

i was completely thrown off seeing three action cards which both players use; but just for the introduction, then read in the manual that each player picks up to 2 action cards for themselves when team building

The three action cards is for the example game; in a full game, each play would probably pick 2 Basic Action cards making for a total of four, but those are still available to both players. It's just giving both players a chance to choose _which_ cards are available for the game.

how can both players activate a global ability at the same time if you lose your action dice or energy dice from your reserve pool at the end of your turn????

You lose _action_ dice at the end of your turn, but unspent _energy_ can stay in your reserve pool till the start of your next turn. So as long as you still have the energy to pay for it (and most globals only cost one or two), you can trigger a global in your opponent's turn.

If you roll a sidekick, you either field it, or it goes into your Used pile at the end of the turn. Most of the time, you might as well field it, since it doesn't cost anything to do so, unless you have some strategic reason to cycle it into your Used pile quickly.

if capt america and beast have an attack of 5 added togeather why don then knock out the human tourch?

Well I mean...what do you expect? The dice are made out of a hard plastic after all. Perhaps they should make a sub set made of rubber dice for people just starting. :giggle:

This game is waaay too complicated. It makes no sense to me. Respect to you for actually understanding and explaining it. Question: the blue dice you use to keep track of your life total, are they from Quantum??

I've never felt like a bigger idiot in my life, thought this seemed fun for my teenagers and I to play, and we can't figure it out. Wish I'd have watched this before I bought it.

20 character dice, 6 basic action, and 8 sidekick dice. For a total of 34 Dice. But also make sure you look at the bottom right of the card where it tells you the max amount of dice you can have on that character.

I find it funny so many people find this confusing. You just have to pay attention to the video. Not even read. We are doomed. :)

i was hoping to watch it played, instead of watch it explained in great detail, none of which is going to matter for the first basic game

So I'm guessing you have 2 monsters each, and you get to choose which one, I guess preferably one lower level monster and a higher level one. But who chooses the Basic Action Cards, because both players would want to use different ones for different strategies. And is there always only 3 used in the game, it seems weird that they give you 4 color cards in the starter pack if you only use 3.

Chris Gottfried I think this is only a demonstration of the beginners game mode. In a proper tournament level game each player choses 4 each, so there's 8 in total.

This is the Quick Start Learn to play version of the game from the instruction of the starter kit. In a full game Each player brings in 8 character cards and 2 basic action cards.

what if you can't purchase a dice from another card

So you can just have 2 charecter cards?

And people think mtg is complicated.... this makes magic look like “war”

Hahahah, I know, right? Rodney's usually pretty clear, but I can't understand what's going on. I'm sure it's second nature once you get it down. Have you been playing it? I'm considering getting into it because if the D&D and TMNT sets.

Still is pretty confusing with the video :/ Rodney does a good job explaining all things considered though.

If you want to learn to easily and quickly play, get the Quarriors App on your Android or iOS device. It's 85% the same game but with generic fantasy creatures. Same people made it and they even share the sidekick dice.

Your team of heroes size is determined by how much starting life you have, 2 heroes for 5 starting life points, so at a maximum of 8.

popers1328 Thanks. I think that this is just an issue if you playing with two people and are only playing with a starter pack. My own rules for only me is 2 heroes, 5 dice, 15 life. And two action cards. That way I have time to learn some basic strategy as well as learn the cards! Fun game.

This could have been explained so much easier. I wasn't until the end of the video that you you begin to understand the game play. For a demo and for interested players it was way over complicated. A lot of the dynamics of the game play could have been left aside to show how fun it could be, ideally a good demo game should give you a basic layout of a game with in 5 mins, NOT around the 15 minute mark because most people will have lost interest, extra rules could then have been introduced later further improving the games dynamics. But Hey thats my two cents worth...

I picked this up to play with my 14 and 11 year old sons. The included instructions are garbage, this tutorial is marginally better (and this is where WizKids sent me). But, one son and I played through a couple times and I think we have it. The best thing is the Play Mat Diagram (centerfold of rule book), which answers the main questions by its artwork and instructions on it. I think its the dice buy mechanics that are most confusing for card game players. You start with just generic minion dice and those are used to purchase better heroes and actions, but they only get cycled in after a while. I can see a depth of strategy in it, and all told I think its a well designed game, but the instructions are incredibly confusing. I write technical documents for IP based phone systems and if any of my work was as horrible as what was in this game I'd be doing something else.

At Gencon Upper Deck announced that they are bringing back Marvel Vs. They weren't clear on whether that would include DC though. But since the new 52 ruined the DCU for me (JSA no longer in same universe, Wally not having been the Flash, and Black Adam murdering one of his own family members) I don't care if DC is in.

Random and Rarity, the two worst ideas in tabletop gaming? Such a shame. Atleast there's still Quarriors, Star Realms and LCGs.

YuGiOh is getting a Dice Masters treatment as well, where, unlike currently there are only levels of rarity in card but not dice, YuGiOh will have rarity of the DICE themselves as well, at least for tournament play. Only these certain dice can be used with this certain card. Outrageous.

Yeah I read that. Not a trend I like to support. The game itself (as seen in marvel dice master) is fun though but the distribution model is just something I can't support, which is a real shame as I'd love to support some dice chucking Marvel vs DC funness.

Perhaps some stores will market singles so you can just pay for what you want but they will probably be at a premium, the easiest way to ensure you get one of everything is to buy one box of the expansion cards that way you should get one of each, a little early to speculate but I would imagine it will be just like CCG's where the new set will have all the cards in one box.

so far the game seems a little bit like magic the gathering, but it also has some differences as well. i cannot wait to play the game for real and learn better how the game works in actual use.

Jesus, could they make the game any more complicated? Don't think its for me.
