TEDxMasala - Dr Vandana Shiva - Solutions to the food and ecological crisis facing us today.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
Dr Shiva Vandana is a philosopher, environmental activist, eco feminist and author of several books. Dr Shiva, currently based in Delhi, is author of over 300 papers in leading scientific and technical journals and participated in the non-violent Chipko movement during the 1970s. The movement, some of whose main participants were women, adopted the approach of forming human circles around trees to prevent their felling. She is one of the leaders of the International Forum on Globalization and a figure of the global solidarity movement known as the alter-globalization movement.
Dr Shiva has fought for changes in the practice and paradigms of agriculture and food. Intellectual property rights, biodiversity, biotechnology, bioethics, genetic engineering are among the fields where Dr Shiva has contributed intellectually and through activist campaigns. She has assisted grassroots organizations of the Green movement in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Ireland, Switzerland, and Austria including campaigns against genetic engineering. In 1982, she founded the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology, which led to the creation of Navdanya. Her book, "Staying Alive" helped redefine perceptions of third world women.

I've come to Vandana by way of Russell Brand just today, and already I want to listen to everything she says. You know when someone speaks the truth and without any sleight of hand, that is someone to listen to and learn from. She has nothing to gain by telling us to eat what nature is already providing, while the likes of Bill Gates, wants us to end up eating foods grown to his design.

Environmentalism is part of growth and most importantly sustainability into the near and distant future! All viable corporations need one thing above all else to be successful in our competitive world economy, and that is a healthy sustainable environment from which to grow a business venture as capitalists with a heart can only do! Providing their associates with clean breathable air, fresh clean drinking water, and a safe and secure workplace "environment! Also when you stated that nature is not just something outside, as it is within us daily through the consumption of nutrition and precious elements! Yes, we are part of nature ourselves! India has the highest percent of vegetarians. And those indians who even eat meet, eat it as just another side dish like pickles. Average Indian meat eater eats 5 kg per year which Americans with their big stomach eat within a week.

What a great speech! Don´t say the patriarchy part is right, but I am not from asia or even India - interesting point nethertheless. I totally agree with the wholistic approach though. Wish you all the best and a big portion of luck on the way :) Greetings and respect from Austria

I think when she is talking about patriarchy it is to point out that our World is too divided. She would like a kind of Reconciliation, Interconnectedness between each living Species and not One over the Other. We need Men as much as We Need Women.

Dear TEDx Talks, TEDxMasala, Dr. Vandana Shiva, I wrote about equality basic processes and guidelines prior to forming OWG, One World Government on your talk with Mr. Chris Hedges. With what I stated in public comment one can go to unlimited but democratically resolved issues through various stages until proper outcome occurs with proper guidelines. If one government in theory is not in uniform with the simple equative process but leans toward corporate or ??? another country can then step in as democratic resolving mediator where inequality would be stated outcome to resolve issue for full fairness and equality for all. If the folks demand other way then procedures are brought up to entice non democratic method to return for full democratic resolved issues other wise an automatic 50 year prison term may result if they remain defiantly unequal. This process can be a one world government without full scale even though it may be in certain instances when inequality is the norm. The teeth is the automatic 50 year prison term with no possibility of parole till sentence met. Guidelines for influence and disruption could add time...There is no reason we all can not live a normal and happy life as we all strive for health and productive ways to keep all inhabitants and earth equally healthy with innovations in same direction. Violators must work with and learn to achieve proper outcome to achieve world's democratic method. Please read Dr. Edward Howells books and articles on raw food enzymes for health and longevity. I submitted same idea for a plantable bottle with one organic seed for regrowth of fruits and vegetables hopefully to regenerate new raw enzymes for single and family pack. I told the World Food Programme in Africa this idea but wasn't sure of amounts for family and single packs with ayurvedic ways for sustainability. I can only hope this idea catches on the world over as Dr. Howell would have liked. I also have ideas for kiosk style body scanner for clothes and shoes with other possibilities per need of area and or country. I'm just trying to help and pay it forward for our soon to be if not immediately implemented OWG worldwide equality. No matter the business the governments of the world owns them in mock forever as future undemocratic resolvability issues crop up under fairness doctrine. Thank you. Sincerely, Don Suiters 1229 N Saturn Ave Clearwater FL 33755-3663 USA I hope I said all this right?
