Toured with Neely in this show in the early.80s. Every. NIght the cast watched this part from the wings in stunned silence. It was nearly exactly the same.every night. I dont recall him ever having a bad night. His voice never failed him. A humble, kind man. Beloved by everyone.

Awesome! What an incredible experience for you. He’s one of a kind. He has such great in-depth emotional life when he sings, and his voice is superior to all others. No one else like him nor will there ever be.

I have goose bumps, just like in the 70s!

Even in my car and/or shower, I can't go that high. Amazing voice. I love the offstage shots of the other actors reactions to his voice.

Ted is one of the greatest performers of all times! When i listen this song, my heart burning.Ted is great!

This only shows that Ted Neeley is a true rock tenor...most singers of his age can't anymore sing the way he does...with so much power, charisma and passion!

I am thrilled to see that Ted's crew are also on their "ear knees", with admiration and astonishment. I bet they want to run onto the stage and go all "Morrissey fans" on him. Imagine being this close to that legend when he sings THAT SONG? Long live Ted, please and thank you, God, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Has anyone ever noticed that the place Gethsemane isn't featured in this fantastical, timeless song? I have it stuck in my mind often. Oh Ted, Oh life! I am so glad to have be born in the time of YOU, dear darling Ted.

I was lucky enough to see Ted Neely in Jesus Christ Superstar in 2011 in Augusta Maine on my 50th birthday with my daughter Angela and I have to say he was amazing! He is a warm and sweet man.. he put so much passion and pain when singing this! Bravo!

I'm 65 years old and first heard Jesus Christ Superstar in grade 8 religion class. I was hooked. I bought the albums, learned all the words, still know most of them. I went to the theater to watch the movie, then saw the live show at the Civic Centre in Ottawa. This song makes me want to cry, and there will never be another Ted Neely. These high notes are the best and as you see the cast behind the curtain react in tears, that's how I feel every time I hear it, and believe me, I've heard it many, many, many times, I sang it too, if you can call it that. Thank you Ted, and all the cast, for the best Rock Opera ever. Love all the original cast.

Ted Neely is one of a kind. Amazing talent. He’s able to put his whole heart and soul into everything he sings, and he brought Jesus Christ to life like no one else. He brings tears to my eyes in this song. It is so raw and real. A great talented actor, too.

WOW!!! Ted is incredible. He sounds like he did in 1973. If this is how he sounds while sick I'd would love to hear him sing when he isn't sick.

i think this film is still one of the most amazing gifts the music could give us, Ted Neely is incredible, it been several years but still has the complete emotion that make us admire him

He has a good voice.

Watch the crew on the backstage, charmed by this performance...hearing this performance many times...in this case, what we simple people can say?

Muzykosłuchacz Actually this particular cast and crew had never heard him preform this song before. Due to the death of Carl Anderson the last time he sung the song was at his funeral. He refused to sing it during rehearsals. It was so bad that the director of the production asked him if he was going to have to find someone else to preform the song. Ted assured him that he would sing it and sure enough he did. So in short, this was actually the first time that they saw him preform the song. But you are correct we should all be in awe of this man, he is truly a legend.

I was very blessed to see him in Jesus Christ Super star and met him too very wonderful person and a AMAZING talented voice!

A few years ago I saw him perform in Los Angeles. He was amazing, I couldn't stop crying.I am so happy that I saw him perform in person. Thanks Ted for giving us this kind of performances. God Bless.

MY BROTHER WAS JESUS AND HE WAS FANTASTIC. GOOD JOB BROTHER!!

I saw one of his last performances as Jesus and spoke with him in his dressing room about the role after. It was amazing what he did and the power he put behind every note. The performance was amazing!

Brings a tear to my eye. I see crying as a weakness but something this beautiful tears me down.

Also realize that Neely is a powerful actor not just a pretty boy breathless tenor as were many of his successors/

Such passion! What a performance! I've heard him sing better(amazingly, even in 2010!) but even at a "bad night" he surely strives where others can only dream of ever reaching! He owns the role as no one else can!

In my opinion you are completely wrong :O, his voice is so common, Ted Neeley`s voice and performance are unique, I`ve never seen someone with his incredible performance, NOBODY!

This is the best clip on KZread.

Personally, I think Steve Balsamo sings this song far better than anyone can ever hope to match. I also think his acting is superb...that being said, Ted gives an amazingly chilling performance. Certainly because of his acting skill, but also perhaps because he looks/sounds like he actually IS going to die

Namdooga you must not have read my description or you'd know Ted Neely, who is now in his sixties, not only still performs as the true professional he is & w/tremendous talent & craft BUT HE PERFORMED THIS SONG WHILE HE WAS ILL.And for an actor/singer to even put forth what he did here while physically ill is a true testimony to his professionalism, loyality, strong will AND talent.As for fans, this fact alone should validate his greatness & he can be forgiven for a missed beat & croaky scream.

Everyone ages and all our voices change as we do, but Ted Neely can still hit those high notes like nobody else. Ian Gillian is good, too, but Neely, in my opinion, has the charisma and real emotion behind everything he sings like none other. Even in his older age.
