@@Hoss_Delgado977 It's intentionally a "modernist" meta-musical, which this film in particular makes in clear from the very start, when you actually see the actors arrive on the bus and change into their characters. Unlike a film like Passion of the Christ, where you're supposed to pretend you're there in the moment watching the story unfold as a roving eye, in this case you're supposed to be watching a traveling group of actors in the desert putting on a musical play about Jesus. A lot of modernist musicals (like Hamilton, Godspell, Chicago) intentionally use inaccurate costumes to reinforce the distance between the performers and the story.

THIS is how to do a theatrical number that knocks people's socks off & grabs them by the shoulders ! This is simply how it's done. Carl, you did that to us & we thank you. RESPECT.

The ending feels like he's crying for Jesus' attention and is completely ignored. Jesus is spearheading to be sacrificed. Judas' worst fears comes true. Carl Anderson was made for this role.

This is my favourite rendition of Heaven On Their Minds. Less shouty, more expressive.

@@gabrielasaldivia7923 Alice Cooper actually played King Herod in the 2018 live special, reprising his role from the 1996 revival album. It was actually Brandon Victor Dixon playing the 2018 Judas, not Cooper.

Carl Anderson is the OG.. nobody will ever replace him.

Heard many versions of this song over the years , but nothing compares to Carl Anderson’s performance . This is the definitive version of this song, all heads must bow ! Just incredible!!!! WOW

No other version that I've heard can match the passion and angst behind Carl Anderson's performance. Every other version just sounds like a hollow imitation to me.

It still gives me chills ... I was so fortunate, to see him perform this LIVE with the Original Cast, on their anniversary tour... I tell everyone, what you hear in this clip, is exactly what he sounded like LIVE... Truly incredible... So powerful... A gift from the Heavens... Dearly missed... 😎🙏🇨🇦

Brandon Victor Dixon & Tim Minchin would like to say hi

I had the fortunate opportunity to know him as a child. My older brother played music with him before Superstar. In fact they were playing the sound track in a church when he was tapped to do the Broadway then movie. My brother and Carl traveled the world playing together after the movie was released.

The original soundtrack from the Broadway production was a popular album before the movie was made. My brothers band was playing that with Carl when he was tapped to do Broadway then the movie

I was ten years old when I first heard this song, his singing is unforgettable...it blew me away then and still does. He passed away way too young 😢

I have the original sound track from the musical. One of my all time favourite LPs.

i loooove carl anderson’s judas because he delivered in almost every way- acting movement and voice all dramatized to the perfect degree

The cinematography in this film was unbelievably amazing.

The cast never knew what a masterpiece they created!

OMG the best voice I have ever heard. Crazy talent.

There have been a number of excellent performances of this song, but noone comes close to Carl Anderson. He will always be the ultimate Judas.

The Bible talks about all of Jesus is disciples, and even describes their point of view and a few of the scriptures and books, but not too much mystery is lifted around Judas. That’s one of the reasons I love this play so much.

Great movie. Great talent. Not biblical. But can still b moving. JUdas point of view of what happened.

Listen--I was raised in an irreligious context--wasn't raised religious, neither were my parents, though I come from a Christian (Protestant) background, in America. I was privileged to meet Carl Anderson after one of his last performances as Judas. I have also learned since that there is some doubt as to the identity and even existence of Judas Iscariot. Let us just grant that Carl Anderson made us all think about the basis of Western European civilization 😀

May be an unpopular opinion but while I love Jesus Christ Superstar the movie is probably my least favourite version. I’ll take any live version or the original concept album any day
