I think what craig said at the end was spot on about mercedes. in the beginning of 2022 they were very confident and (unusually) talkative, and it bit them. we saw how they improved over the year, and by the end knew all of their problems and how to fix. I think theyll be much closer to the front, but they wont let talking about it get too far ahead.

Yes more Ted. One of the few men in the paddock who was “man enough” to speak out about the situation in the 2021 season, particularly the last race which was no more than a farce. That finish was terrible and almost put me off the sport which I have followed since my earliest years. Born in 1950 from a serious engineering family this is a sport which is in my blood and all I ask for is fair and close racing. I don’t want to see any more of the intentional “crashes or break downs “ or perhaps even more importantly, I don’t want to hear that teams have broken the budget restrictions, because the punishment can surely never match the crime and, I don’t want to see any further inappropriate actions to those rules that exist. Good job you guys and thank you for your great presentation.

Best comment in the section - very very well said Alan, I completely concur my friend; where is the sporting honour and dignity? Sacrificed in the name of sensationalism and drama instead of fair and quality racing. Hamilton's podium responses were truly noble - he immediately congratulated Max on stage; I'm not sure that I'd be anywhere near as civil put in similar circumstances.

Ted is being harsh in saying the new Ferrari is just 'tweaks here and there' and the suggestion that they're 'just relying on the power unit'. The new Ferrari has an innovative S-Duct for a start that's on none of the other teams cars (yet), it's got a lighter chassis, the aero has been refined in every area, the rear bodywork is tightly packaged more than any other team allowing for greater aero efficiency, and it's got completely new front and rear suspension. It's safe to assume they've got a much improved floor as well. Ferrari didn't need to reinvent the wheel with this year's car, the Ferrari was the fastest car last year before they had to turn the engine down for reliability reasons, and the TD at Spa definitely hurt them too. However, it's worth noting even with that in mind Leclerc was still getting poles even with the engine turned down and a car hampered by the mid season technical directive. You can see why Ferrari felt like they didn't need to start all over again with blank sheet of paper for 2023.
