Even though the best moment in F1 in my life was Abu Dhabi 2021, this definitely comes close. Huge win for Lewis, wish him the best. Even as a Max fan I was secretly hoping Max wouldnt catch him.

@@billB101 Apparently I was conceived at a 9 hour endurance race at the old Kyalami....I have been an F1 follower since the Brabham BT44....I had all the autographs from Denny Hulme, Hunt, Lauda, Reutemann, whatever....and I agree 100% with you that this was one of the best races I have ever seen....I have to admit that something got into my eye when Lewis crossed the line. This was legendary.....

@@gackauo yea its a shame forever that they unlapped the cars 2 rounds too late thereby only allowing part of them to unlap. It robbed some drivers from being able to battle for position and it also took some shine away from a deserved champion. Still it was the culmination of the youngest driver/winner in the history of the sport finally beating the most successful one. A changing of the guard in some sense. We Dutch had only ever had failures in F1, Max showed what is possible.

@daarom3472 they couldn't unlap them any earlier as there were still marshals on track, this is the whole reason for the saftey car to create a sterile, safe environment on track. It's also ment to neutralise sporting advantages by letting all the lapped cars through to catch up the pack so upon restart everyone has an equal sporting chance to race. On the deserved champion your not going to like my opinion which is the way max drove all year getting no penalties for multiple infringements and plain dangerous driving makes him not deserving of the championship. Sport should be the winner within the rules, the fastest fairest driver and that was not witnessed that season. 2023 was completely deserved by max however but it's a shame alot of people don't like Max because of his unfair driving before and since. I've been pleased and supportive of most f1 champions in most seasons apart from a very few due to unfairness or fia/fish fixing. 1989 was fixed, 1994 and 1997 shumacher lost my admiration both times, vettel in 2014 was unfairly won and alas 2021 was an awful fix and unsportsmanlike the whole year. It's not oftan I have hated f1 but in these years I did.

People struggle to accept Sir Lewis for some reason but when you accept him you realise the competence,the strength of character and his craftsmanship. Many have some of these attributes but generally not all of them. Whether he wins another title or not we should acknowledge his contribution to “our” sport. Got my interest back after AD21🎉

@grantsutherland6798 Masi can't say or do anything he has a non-disclosure agreement slapped on him by the FIA which bans him from ever discussing AD2021. Which screams they are hiding something. Masi got a golden handshake to walk away from the sport and never to speak of it. LH is the goat, Masi is the scapegoat. Get the feeling he is taking the fall but others were heavily involved in the conspiracy to rob Lewis. So many rule changes were brought in that deliberately targeted Mercedes and banned their many innovations. F1 used to encourage innovation now they just pander to RB. Don't forget the stewards under appeal decided to agree with a CLEAR error by Masi but Masi still got blamed and excuses about him being under pressure etc. Well, the stewards in the appeal HAD plenty of time to come to the correct decision.

I find with so many races these days they are starting to blur together. It’s races like this one that keep me watching. I’m not particularly a fan of Ham or Merc but you would need to be completely one eyed to not get caught up in the emotion of his win after such a topsy turvy race.

​@dane458 yeah we all were but nothing compared to Lewis .. and lets be honest its very easy to get into an argument with someone about AB21 but imagine Lewis cant hes probably had all that anger and disappointment build up and then seeing Max dominant ever since .. it was really interesting to see Lewis mention 2021 a couple of times i think hes actually really struggled dealing with that but just kept it internally- and to see all that emotion pour out was incredible i genuinely had tears in my eyes im so happy he got that win even if its last i really hope not but if it is what a story and what a career and what a legend ... Martin is right when he talks about 17 yrs of comitment, also how many different rule changes has he won under? he has adapted for 17 years.

What this weekend made plain to me is that people never truly hated LH, they hated how much he was winning until he wasn’t. Then last weekend happened and everyone remembered the feeling of watching pure magic of a LH drive and win. And everyone just acknowledging that AD21 was just not right , it broke the core of the man, sport should never be so unfair.

Toto made a mistake yes, not allowing LH to pit under the VSC nor under the SC….that made LH stay out on old hard tyres. And he came P2. Reality check.

Ive been watching F1 for 50yrs and Sunday was a very emotional race for one of the GREATS Sir Lewis Hamilton. Well done old champ.

It's so strange that we all talk about how he was robbed in' 21, but the result still stands. I couldn't imagine how it has felt for Lewis with the effort he put into that season and to be on the edge of winning it.

Not because he didn't change his tyres which Vestappen carried out, it was because Masi didn't allow all the lapped cars to unlap themselves which would of ended the race and Lewis would of been the winner with 9 wins each and champion. By the way Lewis was miles ahead in the race before the Latifi accident. This is from a F1 fan whose watch this sport for 50yrs. I think it spoilt the sport for true fans and who would of liked Vestappen to of won the title genuinely. 2021 will be remembered, and his title unfortunately, will be known as Masi's mistake. Vestappen definitely the fastest driver at present.

Rolled back the years with that win. It’s no doubt that the ground effect cars have come less naturally to the older generation drivers so was great to see a win for one of them.

Was an amazing experience to be there and witness an incredible race and lewis making a historic 9 home wins 🏆

Sir Lewis's confidence waned with the performance of the car. If the car's not doing what you expect from it, you lose the ability to push the car to its limits. That confidence is coming back!

I think one of the amazing things about his victory was how it transcended fanbases. What I mean is, I’ve traditionally never rooted for Lewis seeing as I’ve been a Ferrari and Red Bull fan since I first began watching in 2008 AND YET I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE HIM WIN ON SUNDAY! It made me so happy to see him so happy - and I don’t think it’s just me. Saw a lot of fans on the TV with Red Bull and other hats that looked genuinely happy at the result.

"He called me the Original Gangster" You must have sold him a car at some point Martin...

The fact that the 2021 result was allowed to stand is nothing short of a disgrace.

Precisely and without doubt Lewis' title was stolen in 2021. Lewis make no mistake in that process. The whole world and beyond witnessed what took place yet the talking heads continue to advance and rehearse through all forms of media that black is white and white is black. He didn't lose in '21. He was robbed. It's difficult after thinking you've made an impact in a sport, that lacked diversity and inclusion and just as you're about to reach a level never attained by the entitled elite and then to have that taken away from you, is soul breaking.

The best weekend in F1 for such a long time. Lewis needed that and so do we , we will see the next evolution which will is The GOAT

It’s showing that McLaren haven’t operated at the sharpe end of the grid for along time, hopefully they will learn from their mistakes quickly and at the latest have a strong car, driver and strategy next season to win the title!

I know Martin does not like being primarily associated with his walkabouts, but that is NO reflection on his racing career, but a sincere POSITIVE that he should accept and enjoy!

He doesn’t like Lewis even though Lewis praises him constantly and I’ve no idea why. He gives him bullshit all the time. I sense that in the aftermath of Austria his camaraderie might begin to shift somewhat.

Tyre management on the final set of (worn, soft) tyres was the winning difference - said Helmut Marko. I would add that Lewis's position on the first three corners after the start was perfection: check it out. If it had been anyone else Verstappen would likely have got past and the outcome entirely different.

Max had the right tyres, the hards. He could push on them. The softs on LH and Lando were very damaged…

To me, the Mediums were the way to go for McLaren. They would have been better to chase down Lewis on Softs in the few last laps once the Softs started going off, and better to defend against RB on Hard. Unlucky Lando but well done Sir Lewis, great race, thanks.

It was amazing time for all the racing, my first time ever going and it was a classic

Balance me here please. What does Rachel mean when she says that "We will never understand what both those drivers went through in 2021?" Why do we need to both sides a travesty that we all witnessed?

Yes, but the stat is kinda useless, considering there have been very few that even raced 300 races. On top of my head I can only think of Lewis, Alonso,Kimi and I think Micheal and Seb should be up there as well. All of them spent the end of their careers in midfield teams (Seb, Alonso, Kimi) or building up a new team (Micheal) . I feel like the stat is completely useless and they should focus on the 9 wins at silverstone because thats actually the impressive one.

@@NotAcvp3lla Longevity can be important, but the amount of races metric it is irrelevant considering how many more races we have nowadays. It is next to impossible to achieve these numbers if havent driven post 2000. If these stats dont get normalized, they are essentially just stat padding. In my opinion things like win % etc are much more relevant.

@@NoxioLukas By that same logic, stats like most races won/poles, most races won in a season, most races competed/completed are also irrelevant seeing that the number of races per season seems to change on a seasonal basis. What doesn't change however is the time between first/last win which is highly relevant when speaking about longevity.

Martin hit the nail on the head. Lawson is clearly very talented and deserving of a full time seat, but jumping in alongside max could be trouble for his mentality and confidence. Its a huge amount of pressure for a rookie, especially when its looking to be a very close title fight with two other teams. Put riciardo in the rb for the second half of the season. He can handle the mental pressure at least, and quite literally cant do any worse then checo. Plus he gets along with max and they get the most marketable driver on the grid. If he actually does well, awesome. If not, Lawson had another half season to further prove himself, further build his confidence, and get more experience before moving up (if thats what they decide to do)

Perez did not ask for mediums, he like Max told them that it was not the time but they did it anyway. I am thinking Perez was the sacrificial Lamb.

Not sure If I'd characterize Lewis' emotion as carrying demons. It was truly a cathartic moment. He/we suffered a trauma at Abu Dabi but that was just the beginning of 2+years of swimming upstream. It's pretty clear the extreme effort it takes to win a drivers championship. Many now understand that extreme loss. From the driver side, it's much more than a fast car, which we've seen the likes of some talented quick drivers who can't hit any consistency marks. Lewis is truly an amazing talent and the youngsters on the track should try to learn a thing or two. No one is entitled to anything, you need to work.

​@@daarom3472Merc fumbled in france as well with 1 stop, bottas openly said on radio. Also went bold with 1 stop in final race rather pit again just to be on safer side. Lewis had a tyre to use but they relied on their spicy engine being overconfident

So the 2021 championship slipped away from Lewis, Martin needs to tell it like it was....it was illegally taken from him by the hands of Michael Massi, yet you all are scared to say that out loud. Verstappen didn't steal it Massi did,and handed it to redbull.

Facts!

Max and Lewis could have won and did win because of experience Lando and Oscar lost the win because of lack of experience Red Bull and Mercedes, along with Max and Lewis know how to lead and read a race, as do the teams and engineers because of that experience Lando, Oscar and McLaren, simply put don't because they lack that experience of being in the front and fighting McLaren will learn, just as Red Bull and Mercedes did. It takes time and pain like Silverstone. But like they did with the car, they'll improve and they'll get there.

For the Red Bull seat it's very simple; put Yuki in that seat. Put Liam in RB and give Ricardo until the end of the season at which point get a junior driver ready.

Don’t understand why Yuki wouldn’t be the obvious person to try next to Max. He’s quicker than Daniel - if they aren’t ever going to promote him why keep him in the junior team? Surely that’s the point of having two teams?
