Tecsun PL-310ET Shortwave Radio Daytime MW
The Tecsun PL-310ET AM FM LW Shortwave receiver is my recommendation for those looking for a portable radio that is inexpensive, has decent reception performance and uses standard AAs. This radio has been on my desk since I purchased it many years ago and remains there for daily use. Cruising the Daytime Medium Wave Band (AM in the States), is a treat. The bandwidth control shines along with the use of a great passive loop and viewing the radio's signal/noise ratio function.

Overall, there are some new radios coming out from Tecsun, one is going to have SSB so you can listen to HAMs and will probably be under $80. Is the PL-310ET still a viable shortwave radio? Yes. It runs on simple and easy to find AAs, has great audio, and will still supply the owner with many years of tuning bliss :)

I have this radio, it is really a great radio!! Nice presentation sir... Happy New Year
It is very sensitive in SWL . I could listen to Radio Alcaraván from Colombia with 1kw in Argentina using the telescopic antenna. Obviously it was a magic night, but this little receiver works fine with any random wire antenna. FM is another goal. Thanks for your excellent tests my friend. Have a nice 2021 and 73

This is a good radio for AM FM and sound quality and i have this but still i go for my 380 for daily use, easy to press buttons specially at night.. if only buttons are the same with 380 maybe i choose this.

I have this radio. I use it daily as an alarm clock, also doubles as the news source because my local radio station has national news exactly at the time I want to wake up. (Although I would like an option to control the alarm volume) If I feel like SW, I connect it to my 29feet wire and start browsing. ( Also I hate that it randomly jumps from slow to fast tuning mode and vice versa) Nowadays I rarely use MW, but few months ago when I was really into it, I had made a passive loop antenna out of cardboard box and some more items.
Have you ever tried a session at the beach? I've tried this, and the retekess V117 in a trip to Huatulco and Mazunte Bays in Oaxaca, Mx (Pacific coast), and every time was plenty of fun! Tons of signals from everywhere! Even with the whip antenna only! Pure pleasure!

Hi Todd, The feature I like best about this radio is the ambient temperature sensor. Do you know of any radios with better features, better reception, and a bigger speaker that have similar functionality? It didn't appear that the ETON Elite Executive had this function. I plan to use this radio in a hot tent, and knowing temperature in the room is very useful. Thanks!

@@todderbert I found out from Anon-co that the PL-330 export version has the new firmware 3305. I ordered one a couple days ago. Can't wait to try it. Really look forward to you posting videos on the new PL-330.

Sold my 880 awhile ago. I plan to get a 990 and will have plenty of videos on that one.
after a few months i am not happy with this radio , i love the sound quality and the reception ,etm is real plus ,i even have two long wires to the balcony , but after a few months the volume control is giving up ,i cleaned it and after a few weeks the problem came back ,and it's annoying to have to deal with the volume while you are half a sleep or just bust with anything . Other this is batery life ,i have to charge it every second day even tho the radio is working quiet , so knowing this i would not buy this radio again , reception and sound is great i love it ,but the issues i mentioned makes it a no go , and clearly explains the price ,i would collect another 50$ and get something better

QC must be a challenge lately for Tecsun. Mine is good, the only issue I had was with a 606 that the batteries would dump after a day of the radio sitting there turned off. Clearly something was still on, sapping the energy.
I have had this radio since July 1 2018 . This radio kid a great MW DXer . The problem I have had is with the display light no longer works when using the tuning dial . The light is not burnt out as it works by pressing the display button !

Try this: Turn off your receiver. Then long press on number 5 key. Keep pressing this key until you can read on the display ON or OFF. Leave the ON option if you want to use backlight.
Have you done a review of the new sw from Belarus? But, neat radio here!

If you don't mind the use of the BL-5C battery, then hold out for the 330. Having SSB is great. If you are a casual broadcast listener and love to use standard AA batteries grab this radio, or a Digitech AR-1780.

@@todderbert Thanks! I probably have some spares sitting in my old Nokias. With the USB charging, I'm more likely to have a cable and charger or large battery pack in a vehicle or camping than a couple of AAs. Just started watching your videos this week. My girlfriend has been teasing me for watching too many. Pretty dangerous sitting here with a credit card with all of these! I like the detail and consistent format.
