Technivorm Moccamaster Review: Amazon's Best Selling Premium Coffee Machine

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Moccamaster by Technivorm is iconic. One of the most popular coffee machines worldwide, it is both beautiful itself, and makes wonderful coffee. It's main claim to fame is the constant heat from 196-205 degrees Fahrenheit, as well as the 9 hole water arm spout. These two items create a wonderful, blooming coffee bed, that results in an aromatic, delightful cup of coffee. It is my favorite coffee machine. Considering this is hand made in the Netherlands, has a 5 year guarantee, and all spare parts available, you will have a friend for life.

Thanks Tom, the Mocamaster is a beautiful machine indeed. I have heard very good reports about them for years. Juts a bit too pricey for me. I was researching "smart" brewers and came across the Bonavita 8 cupper with glass carafe for just $82. Their larger model is endorsed as being up to temperature standards. We got one and are very pleased with the brew it produces. When it is just my wife and I we brew with my V60. For more people the Bonavita is fine. Some have commented about not liking coffee from the Mocamaster. I think you have to start with freshly ground coffee and filtered water for the best results from any brewing method.

I really enjoy pour over coffee every single day. Sometimes I’m lazy and don’t want to keep making multiple cups throughout the day. The Technivorm moccamaster really does an amazing job of making batch brew. Also, good when guests come over. I’ve got the KBTS at home and I got a CDT Grand for my local masjid.

I have the KBGV Select in the U.S. It's been excellent for over two years. You do need to make sure the filter holder engages the spring that opens the valve on the bottom when you set the filter holder into position or the valve won't open and the filter holder will overflow and make a mess. After it happens once, you never forget to do it again. I'm not sure about where you are but in the U.S. the hot plate turns itself off after 100 minutes, not 40. Descaling and cleaning is every 8 weeks in my area since we have hard water. Descaling is one pot with solution followed by three of just plain water, then cleaning is one pot of solution followed by three of just plain water, so that's like making eight pots of coffee in a row on the days I do it, and to keep track and not lose my place I made myself a check list and just check off each pot as I go. Warranty is excellent and for five years, and after that they still cover any issues for a flat fee, but not only the issue, but anything else they find while they have it in the shop at no extra cost. Here in the U.S. that takes place in Oregon or Washington state (I can't remember which). It's super fast turn around. When my Moccamaster stopped turning off after 100 minutes about two months in, I didn't care but THEY cared and insisted on fixing it for me for free. They've been great. I've never been that into the aesthetics of this machine, but I love it for its performance. One thing I just noticed didn't happen in this video: Technivorm tells you to fold over the side and bottom filter seam before putting it in the filter holder. It fits perfectly inside that way.

Thanks for the review! I own this machine. Got it on a really good sale price. It’s a great machine but the brew head does creates channeling in the bed. So I give it a stir after a minute or so after the water flows. Sometimes I use a spoon to distribute the water more evenly. Maybe a bit ocd but I feel like the flavor is better

@@TomsCoffeeCorner There are a few things you can do. If you have the model with the adjustable brew basket, you can close the valve during the bloom phase, and allow all of the grounds to get saturated, then WDT or stir with spoon. You can also rotate the brew basket. This is a more manual machine than my Behmor Brazen, but it’s a classic, that I think that anyone who is a true coffee enthusiast should have. The more manual nature of it is part of the fun. Similar to a pour over.

I sometimes give mine a stir and sometimes don't. It doesn't seem to make much difference in the flavor. (Even though I can look int he filter holder basket and see the coffee isn't initially unfiormly wet, by the time all the water has gone through it is (in mine).

It's the Russel Hobbs Adventure coffee maker. There's one with the glass jug and one with stainless steel thermal jug which I consider yo be better because it keeps the temperature of coffee very well without having that heat plate heating and re-heating the coffee all the time. I think you mean the NEW carafe that has a glass liner, whereas in the past the carafes didn't have a glass liner and some felt imparted an off taste to the coffee. The new carafe with the glass liner can replace the old design, you don't have to buy a machine. I bought the glass carafe because I'd read about this flavor issue (plus it comes in a lot more colors), but while I make the coffee in the Moccamaster glass carafe, I pour it into an Alfi "Hotello" carafe to enjoy over the next hour or more and despite not having a glass carafe, it has an ingenious roughly 1" thick lid that's hollow and seems to keep everything hot. It also opens automatically as you pour and was designed for waiters in hotels. I use the 1 liter to make 1.25 liters of coffee each morning (the extra goes into my first cup), and for pour over coffee I use the .6 liter Alfi Hotello carafe since that way I'm not taking the time to make pour over and having it get cold almost immediately. I loved the olde Alfi "Juwel" with the glass liner but they dented and broke easily. The Alfi "Hotello" stays hot and pours very easily.

I don't doubt it makes good coffee, but for the price it can't have parts that badly designed. The jug, the coffee ladle and the design of the handles seem to be made in China for €1. Zero ergonomics.

I think the plastic looks cheap too, but they also tell you not to run it through the dishwasher and I do and so far (for over a year) so good. The glass carafe is also the only one I've ever had that doesn't drip when I pour it. (Strangely their expensive metal jug to pour water in the tank DOES drip if you pour it at all fast -- it makes a mess.) At some point I read their reasoning for choosing the plastics they did, but they did have their reasons, and it wasn't just to make this cheaply. They also say the tube on the underside of the carafe lid helps to distribute the coffee evenly in the carafe rather than having it in layers of different strength top to bottom, but there's no way to easily clean INSIDE that tube -- another reason I just run it through the dishwasher when they specifically tell me not to.
