These are the coffee makers you'll most commonly find in Finnish households, so I've learned from places like Reddit and through videos right here on KZread. Naturally, as someone who's always been passionate about Finland and Finnish culture, and because they're the country that has the most coffee consumption per capita in the world, I find that it's a no-brainer to go with a Moccamaster. It just makes sense. Make of that what you will, but if anyone here is still on the fence, maybe that'll help you decide x

I have the CLubline, which I don’t know the year of manufacture, but it’s running like new. I love it!! Best coffee maker ever!

I love the Moccamaster brewers. I have 2 of them and want to add the Moccamaster CDT Grand to my collection.

Will the KB filter holder work with the KBGV? I would like to be able to close off the flow for pre-infusion.

Unfortunately no. The bases are different and not cross-compatible.

You can try turning the KBGV off about half way through brewing (when the visible water reservoir is nearly half empty) and removing the carafe so the filter holder can't drain, then slide the carafe back and turn the machine back on to finish the brewing cycle. There is no pump in these machines. It willl heat up again and push all the water through the copper coil to finish whatever water you measured to start with. Also, always make sure the filter holder engages the spring when set into the base for it or it won't be able to drain and you will have an overflow and mess. (If you've done that when you started you won't have to do it again just because you temporarily remove the glass carafe and then put it back again.)

@@upscalebohemian5372 Thanks. I've used that technique before with mixed results. Sometimes it goes exactly as planned and other times, when replacing the carafe, if I'm not fast enough, a small overflow/spill happens leaving coffee on the hot plate. The switch would be so easy but I guess you can't have everything. Hey Technivorm, are you listening???

Most of the time I will brew 2-3 cups but on weekends we need larger capacities. Technivorm says minimum amount for KB is 4 cups. What is your experience with smaller quantities?

That's four European-sized cups when it comes to Moccamaster, which basically means after dinner sized cups/saucers, not American-sized cups or measuring cups. I make a 1.25 liter pot most mornings just for myself, and when I have a guest joining me there's almost not enough for two who like to sit for an hour or so and relax over coffee.

To an extent, the quality of the coffee increases as the dose gets smaller and the grind gets finer. This is because it's easier for the showerhead to evenly saturate all the grounds.

@@primacoffeeequipmentFor better dispersion on larger brews with my KBVG I bought a second shower head and (using an ice pick) re-directed the outlet holes for better dispersion. Easily swaps out. Works great.

I've got one of those big Commercial stainless Bunn coffee makers you see in Diners and at 7-11. I guarantee it blows the doors off any of these..

If only the Cup One had a decent shower head. It would be a world beater single cup brewer.

They do tweak the designs over time. The spray arm on the KBGV Select used to have flat drilled holes in the shower head and they were changed to individual little punched cone shapes instead. Even some coffee professionals felt this change made stirring the coffee slurry when the water reservoir was half empty (to make sure all grounds were wet) superfluous after this tiny redesign.
