Technique Of The Month | January | Tightlining
Happy New Year! To start the year off I’m going over a great winter time technique. Tightlining was born in upper East TN and can be a great way to catch cold water bass. Don’t sleep on this simple but effective technique. Forward facing sonar has opened up a whole new world for how we fish this too.
For any of the gear I use all season long you can get it here: www.basspro.com/SearchDisplay...

Good luck this year!!! You make us proud!! Couldn’t be a better guy to represent East Tn on the pro circuit!!
I really like the “Pick 2 More” idea. Can’t wait to see what baits you add for the months to come.

Hey Ott - Thanks for the shout-out on TightLining! I definitely didn’t invent it, but, man, it’s an awesome technique and fish catcher. Great job! Nathan
Nathan is a sure master at tight lining.
Great timing. I actually just watched Nathan & Kevin tight lining with Gulp Minnows on Watauga. Caught some nice Spots & Smallies. Good tips from you & them both. Thanks for being such a good role model for young & old fisherpersons. Stay safe. 🙏 🇺🇸 🎣
Totally a great way to catch them in East Tennessee Ott. Our old buddy Nathan has shared some great tips about tight lining.
Great tips sir. Thank you and good luck with the coming tournament season.
Another helpful video! Thank you so much for making these, they help me a ton! When you showed the bait I immediately went and rig one up 😂. I hope you have a great year Ott!
Thanks Ott! Looking forward to seeing you at Bussy Brake this year.
I love the comments on your videos Ott. The vast majority that I've read from your fans seem to be 100% spot on! God Bless!
Nice shout out to Nathan Light
Thanks for sharing, I learned something new today! Keep ‘em bent
Thank you Ott
Really great tips thanks Ott Defoe BIG FAN
Thanks Ott for the great tips. I will have to give this tight lining technique a try. God Bless.
Great video, I have done similar with the spark shad but I am going to get some moon heads and straight tail baits and try this method in Virginia! Good luck this year and keep the tips coming! God bless you and your family!

Yes, indeed, it works
Excellent video, Ott. It's really cool to hear your preferences and reasons for them. Those are excellent tidbits of info to get us thinking more like the #1 professional bass angler around. This technique is really something that works well up North where we have longer periods of colder weather. If we can find open water, this is something we OTT-A bring.
Lots of us were doing this a long time ago. Nathan was just the first one to open his big mouth about it. A guy out of KY was the one who turned most of us locals on to it like 25 years ago.

That seems like a good way to catch em!!! You’ve seen the pictures of what I’ve caught with your help so keep ‘em coming!!!
Great video 📹
Good luck love the show!
Good job.. keep them coming..
I'm not sure how long ago you are talking about this originating in East Tennessee, but I was catching big Spots with Doug Youngblood (a BASS tourney guy back in the day and guide) on Lake Lanier in the late 1990's using this exact technique with 1/8 oz hand poured jig heads and a bitten down Zoom Finesse worm, dipping the tail in dye. He used the exact, quivering retrieve on spinning gear and 6# mono (pre-braid days). Deadly.
May our Lord Jesus bless you. Ott your a blessing to me and many.
Great video! Go team ott
Good stuff OD. If you aren’t doing anything in the morning see you at the LaFollette launch by the cemetery for a Norris wildcat. Ha ha.

Another great video, Ott. That tightline bait in your video looks fantastic. Are you at liberty to say exactly what it is? Thank you.

This is a Bass Pro slim shadee Shad that I trimmed down.
Nathan Light is gonna have to find a bigger hat size after you mentioning him.Just joking I'd say he pretty much is the reason everyone is doing it in East Tennessee and other areas.👍

Not hardly…😁
Have would use without forward facing sonar.
What length minnow do you prefer?
Ott, Is it possible to use this technique fishing from shore? It seems like it might be hard to surf the bait because you can’t tell the depth without having a boat. Great video Ott. Your explanation of the subject is always easy to understand. 🙏🎣

You certainly can. I would try to find steeper banks to use it on and might go lighter on head weight

OTT , What length of fluorocarbon leader 10:01 do you recommend ? Thanks , Charlie Federico

I start with 10-12’.
Question: why would tight lining a drop shot not work. And if it did would a nose hooked minnow have better action
@OttDeFoeFishing

It could. Just might have some bite the sinker too.
What about nathan heavy
