Technique of the Elbow Block, the Parry, and the Weave

Спорт

Technique of the Elbow Block, the Parry, and the Weave. Tom Yankello of the ‪@WorldClassBoxingChannel‬ teaches you how to use elbow blocks, parries, and weaves by doing a drill where you throw a 1 2 hook. Then you throw a right hook to the body and then a left hook to the body. When the hooks to the body are being thrown, you will block those with your elbows. Tom eplains how to properly perform the elbow blocks. Then Tom explains how to parry when the right hand is thrown as well as how to counterpunch with the right hand or counterpunch with the left hook. Off the parrys, you then weave and come back with a right hand and left hook. Tom then explains the art of the parry and the punches.

Parry with elbow spiked out is so mean. First time my sparring partner did it I hurt my thump so bad. Taught me an important lesson to never just rip a hook to the body without angle or setup

Thank you so very much for the amazing details! Question. I'm a little confused 😕 Why is he weaving with his face facing the floor? I thought when you weave, duck or roll you are suppose to change levels and not lead with the head. Facing down puts you at a disadvantage. Right? You can't see your opponent and you become open to uppercut punches.

Son caught me with an elbow block, took that arm away for at least 30 seconds, if not longer. Arm felt as it could have broke, thinking something similar to the leg check.

Love it Tom. Love all your drills. Question though Danny’s feet weren’t moving. You’ll see your feet moved more than his in the last few shots of the combo. Is that because Danny was loading up? Or is that a mistake by Danny? If shadow boxing the feet would be moved on every shot right?

Coach I have a question. In all your punching videos you emphasize on punching while moving and stepping. I noticed in those drills, all the blocking, slipping and waving are done while moving. But in these defense videos, all the defense skill are done being stationary. Im confused. Do we need to move while defensing?

I'm confused why his face is facing the floor when weaving. Instead of changing levels , keeping his eyes on his opponent and NOT lead with the head. Aren't you leaving your self open to getting countered with a uppercut punch. Someone please share your thoughts.

Your correct and in MMA a knee would be an issue to. The point of the drill is really just for head movement with elbow parrying added in. If the weave is fast enough, an uppercut can still miss leaving them open for the counter, additional weaving to the lead hand side would cut the angle off the opponent off making an uppercut unlikely, perhaps if the catch you with a lead hand upper cut.

These moves obviously work and they are even used in other traditional martial arts. Why is there so much disrespect though when other arts use them?

What do you mean? How are these techniques disrespected in other martial arts arts? I'm confused why his face is facing the floor when weaving. Instead of changing levels and NOT lead with the head. In Muay Thai you would get countered with a knee or a uppercut punch.
