Lyrics
Well the streets have started burning
There’s trouble in the towns
Guess the devil loves his playground, that’s for sure
I too often see the world through a veil of tears
Well to hell with my immunity
Gonna hold you close
Till the shadows disappear
If by magic you mean the ocean
If by tragic you mean the end
We weren’t wrong, we were just hungry
For manna from heaven
Come and drown me in the infinite sea
Drop me in rivers of mercy yeah
Dare I imagine some faith and understanding?
Drop me in rivers of mercy yeah
Bring out the dead tonight and bathe them in your sacred light to
Wash away the pain
Save me from the shadows yeah
Cry like a siren
The light on my horizon
Drop me in rivers of mercy yeah
Show me mercy, miracle waters
Make me golden, part of the dream
We got stung
We were just lovers
Born of temptation
Slow down river and float me upstream
Drop me in rivers of mercy yeah
Dare I imagine some faith and understanding?
Drop me in rivers of mercy yeah
Bring out the dead tonight and bathe them in your sacred light to
Wash away the pain
Save me from the shadows yeah
Cry like a siren
The light on my horizon
Drop me in rivers of mercy yeah
Spinning upside down
In the wake of mighty waves
See the anger of the world
When feelings run high
When feelings are so raw
We will give in to the night
Drop me in rivers of mercy yeah
Dare I imagine some faith and understanding?
Drop me in rivers of mercy yeah
Bring out the dead tonight and bathe them in your sacred light to
Wash away the pain
Save me from the shadows yeah
Cry like a siren
The light on my horizon
Drop me in rivers of mercy yeah

I grew up in the 80s and loved Tears for Fears because of their hits back then--"Shout" and "Everyone Wants to Rule the World". Forty years later I discover that those two hits were just scraping the surface. Had no idea they had written all these great songs like this one.

I didn't think Tears for Fears could ever write another song like "Famous Last Words" or "Woman In Chains" again, until I heard this one. It absolutely floored me. I listened to the album for the first time all the way thru, and have loved every track. All the great more Curt-centric stuff, and then this came on and blew my mind. I have never gotten such an emotional reaction to one of their songs since Famous Last Words. The context of this song, with all that is going on in the world right now, this just fits it so powerfuly! It's almost like a Gospel song. This is a new masterpiece. The whole album is excellent!

My listening of late has mainly been Atmospheric Black Metal, the most recent Iron Maiden album, Katatonia, and other heavier acts, but I recently landed on the new Beach House, settling into its Dream Pop, Shoegazey mellow goodness. I've been stuck on that for a while, but then The Tipping Point came out. This album is so lush, so textured and perfect, that's it's hard to adequately craft words to fairly describe it. There are high points all over, like Stay, My Demons, and End Of Night, the title track, among others, but Rivers Of Mercy is something special. A sonic elixir for the ears. A healing hand, forged in melody and soaked in comfort, caressing the soul. This song resonates like few before it.

The songs have a determined flow and placement, and though the non-single songs may not stand out or hit as hard on their own on first listen , they all become more powerful and beautiful if listened in turn as intended. Please do so, and do it repeatedly

Yes... nicely put. I feel many albums are underrated and missed in that regard. I tend to think there's usually a reason some bands put certain songs ahead of others. One of the first bands I ever love was King Diamond - Abigail. Which is a story so listening to it in chronological order is the only way to really feel the full grasp of what the artists are trying to convey.

I wish you all rivers of mercy, manna from heaven, "some faith and understanding", a sacred light, pain washed away, miracle waters, that the dead be brought back to life. That leap of faith. I wish you all this, Curt, and Roland, and TFF fans. You're special to me and pray that the One from above may reveal even more to your hearts to put it in songs like these.

Lost my step father this year. They call them "step fathers" cuz they "step" up to the plate. He gave me the life i couldn't have imagined. His career in the army gave me appreciation for life, travel and humankind. If it wasn't for him I never would have met my (girlfriend) now wife, in Germany. I followed in his footsteps, and am currently active duty. Don't regret a second! Before he died (3 years struggle with cancer) we promised to see T4F live... It never happened, but i was able to bring my children to see their first concert last week. Loved every minute and so did my family. This song would have been one of my dads favorites! Thank you Curt and Roland for giving me memories I'll never forget!

I recently attended the Tears for Fears concert in Kansas City. Both Starlight Theater and Tears for Fears were amazing in every way but, like most folks in the crowd, I mainly went to hear the songs I knew and could sing along with. And that part of the concert was every bit as fantastic as I imagined. And then they started playing this song. I was speechless, spellbound, and simply struck with how phenomenally beautiful this song truly is. Since, I've listened to it dozens of times and I can't get over how moving and emotional it is. You two are a gift, please don't ever stop sharing your magic with the world.

I haven't listened to the radio in a while. But here in Brazil, songs like this are only played on some specific radio stations. Most radio stations here only play current trends, or popular genres here, funk, country music, trap, among others. Such a gem, because it is not up to current market standards, remains hidden amidst the noise of fads. In the face of everything that explodes in this increasingly confusing market, this music simply does not exist.
