This is not what fishing is about for most people. Most of us it's about getting out and having fun. I mostly tournament fish in small local clubs. It's nice to win but it's more about having fun and meeting people with the same interests.

My bass club has 140 members and pays over 100% at our tournaments. I’ve fished tournaments at some level for 45 years. Back in the 80’s and 90’s there were several trails in the North East that paid over 100%, lots of small companies that would give you free stuff and pay you $200-300 a day to do a show than wine and dine you too. If you won a lot several boat companies would be trying to get you you in a memo boat at a discount. My 1993 361V cost me 16K and I had it a year before I paid a dime for it. Big Corporations bought up all the small companies and all the promotional money goes to guys like Ike and KVD.

Makes sense to run the Notro for the difference in the money. 19 K right off the bat is huge! Many folks think that all pros make millions, and some might do that. But without sponsors there aren't many that can make money fishing as a pro. Great video, very enlightening.

Mike did bring up a very good point, the cost of the nitro. It's not a bad boat. I feel it's a good value. Hell once when I was a very young pup, I made a raft with plywood and inter tubes. I wanted to fish a pond, it served the purpose not real safe, but it worked. The prices on bass boats in my opinion became over inflated around 2000-2002. It hasn't stopped. I feel the nitro has made it possible for the average person to fish, take his kids out, have a good time and spend 15-20 grand less. I'm not wanting to be a pro at 66 yrs of age, but I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a Z20. I know you don't like them, but I don't think you can make a good argument for paying 90-100 thousand for a boat. Yes a lake Erie boat maybe but not that kind of money to fish a 3000 acre lake. I worked all my younger days, and had an aluminum bass boat then a 2000 18.5 procraft bass boat. 22 yrs later retirement. Have the funds, and ready to buy. I have never seen a bass boat catch a fish, but it dose have to be comfortable and provide me the chance to go test my skills. By the way I really do like your series where you compare different brands to each other. Very informative Thanks Andy, have a great weekend.

Mike is wearing a great sweater! 👍 I agree with him on boat, cost and being paid / sponsors. I'll help out a local business for free because it's the thing to do. But the big business should hand out little more money. Loved the walmart part! And how Mike looked at you, like what are you getting at! 😆 he is straight forward. And he is 100% right on the payouts! He puts the time. You get where he is at by sitting on your butt!. Nice video Andy and Mike!

Loved the part about his new boat and saving $19k. I think a lot of people confuse cheap and good value. Just because a metanium is 450 doesn’t make a lews speed spool junk. But you probably shouldn’t fish for a living with a $100 reel. Nice video.

You mention a lot of your favorite boats, as far as performance, but rarely discuss Allison. I just purchased a used Allison xb 21 and I can tell you that it is built better than the three pheonixs that I have fished and as a single crappie tournament fisherman, it fishes beautifully. It is expensive, but the craftsmanship is pretty damn strong. I am confused

Fair question Baker...we just think they are ugly! We know it seems trivial but that's the case. Also, we do not have a lot of experience with then because we don't see a lot of them up here. Every now and then we will get one in the shop. We know they are great rigs but we just cannot get over the looks. Just our silly opinion

Tournament fishing is a tuff profession!! I admire them all! It’s takes a special breed! He’s like tons of us fisherman we fish for the love of it but if we can make money while we do what we love we go for it!! But it’s going to be only for the well off if the prices keep going up!! The internet will end up closing the chapter of most competitive fishing !! You tubers will be cashing the checks ! I love your channel but if I was a betting man that you cash a monthly check from your channel that’s more than your business may make a month! No disrespect!! Love watching !! It’s just example that the internet reaches more people an that’s what companies want to reach as many people as possible! I would love for you to have a show about hour the internet an KZread has changed the entire fishing an boating industry! Again I love watching your channel!!

Please consider this I have a 1983Johnson V4 90 hp. motor still running drinks a lot of gas on a Cajun Blazer 16' bass boat. Will run top end at 49.3 on the gps. I may need or want a small block rebuild can you recommend a reputable dealer. I live in Central Florida, I will be up and running Monday Thanks for the reply. All ready replaced power paks and coils along with the VRO pump now mixing the fuel myself no adjustment available on the carbs the compression got to be low it will not idle lower than 900 to 1000 rpm. that's the current issue.

For a guy in his position, why not buy a boat that is like a year old that still has warranty left on the motor? Let someone else eat the depreciation and then run that boat for a year or two then sell it. This something I have been looking into. Does this void some contingencies or anything?

Disagree with the 2 tournaments with 25 and another with 13. The reason the 13 exists is because they either (1) have points they’re chasing or (2) you’re in the 25 and they’d rather win less and have a chance at winning. 90% of us aren’t this guy. We want bragging rights, nothing else really.

Seen another pro talking about how alot of the sponsorship and money today is also about having an online following. People get paid because they get veiws online and that's what advertisers want. He claimed many pro fisherman are make more money from online platforms then from tournaments. Look at Mark Zona he definitely make more money from endorsements and TV then he does from winning tournaments.

Yes that is 100% correct! These days marketing departments value social media presents over actual sales conversions. In our opinion those days are going to be coming to an end. The common consumer is going to wake up to the fact that Johnny Awesome is just peddling free product for money and doesn't actually have the talent to back it up. Time will tell and the marketing departments will eventually wake up

The googans don't place in tournaments but started a huge tackle business and now sponsor pros. Alittle different they started on social media then started making tackle. Now their stuff is in big box stores like dicks sporting goods. Social media is here to stay weather we like it or not. I never payed any attention to the googens but my younger coworker buys all their stuff.

In all honesty, if you're an aspiring bass angler and not taking advantage of social media platforms in any sort of way then you're losing money. Great video but even Mike has several holes in his approach to making money at the bottom line in the industry. Modern day bass anglers should be taking full advantage of social media outlets to promote their names and brand. He's losing money without self promotion. Relying on finishes and contingents only is an antiquated way of making a living in the industry.

If you think the new Rangers are “higher end” than the FXR or ZXR SKEETERS then god dammit go look at one then go drive it! I’ve owned every Champion known to man and all nice ones at that! I got talked into running a 2021 Zxr21 and I will NEVER look back! Just stop downing Skeeters!

We'd take a new Skeeter over a new Ranger any day...however we'd probably take fishing off the bank over a new Ranger too for what it's worth

Honestly, not your best video. The Angler and you weren't jiving at all and he was very matter-of-fact. I can see why he doesn't have any real sponsors.
