The dialogue is a hit and miss. Some of those misses are big! 00:57 "a new creature: a convert from gentile to jewish?" This is but one of eight "born again" concepts within Judaism. The other seven are: when a man became king, bar mitzvah, getting married, ordained as a rabbi, when a rabbi became the head of a Yeshiva or rabbinic academy, a slave released into freedom, or the festival of born again (when the moon cycles from dark to light). Nicodemus was already born again four times according to Jewish theology, and he knew it. He wasn't eligible for any further born again experiences. Furthermore, to be clear, the real Nicodemus was not talking about Salvation and neither was Jesus. Rather Jesus, in the Gospel of John not the show, was referring to the progression of living God's teaching (Torah) by the Spirit (Isaiah 32:15; 44:1-5; 55:10; Ezekiel 37:1-14). To be clear, Nicodemus' understanding of born again was pertaining to the physical. Jesus was helping him to understand the need to be born again spiritually, NOT SAVED. Salvation comes first. For the Jew it was the Exodus. Then comes the Torah or instruction. For the Jew this was at Sinai. The ability to hear God's instruction and then to do it, otherwise known as Shema, follows. However, since the physical attempt to listen and do God's instruction failed for generations it was necessary for God to promise to take the Torah and enable its practice through the Spirit. In other words, spiritual development. A concept lost on many "Christian churches" these days, and obviously on these writers. Jewish theology, at the time of Jesus, was focused on physical development. Jesus came to bring spiritual development to members of God's kingdom. Incidentally, God's Kingdom or the Kingdom of Heaven was a concept already familiar to Jewish theology at the time. As God's kingdom was enacted at Sinai through the covenant. The Promised Land was to be the culmination; in it people were called and expected to live sanctified lives in accordance with God's teaching and statutes. Jesus' teaching was necessary so the Spirit could "teach" (bring the Torah into the lives of Israelites and believers) and "remind US everything Jesus said" in order to develop spiritually as a citizen of God's kingdom (cf. Philippians 3:20-21). In other words, God promised to put His Torah in hearts and bring it to life by being born again.
