3rd Comment 😁 It is critical for children these days to learn philosophy; this era is very materialistic, technologically advanced and "flashy", it is very easy to get distracted or mislead. Philosophy gives a deeper and more realistic meaning to the world, even though it is often viewed as unrealistic or theoretical, it also gives a person a deeper understanding of themselves. Humanity have developed vastly in such a small period of time (past 100 years), beforehand, it was pretty consistent and similar where people took their time with everything. Revisiting their philosophical discoveries about humanity clarifies for us why the world and its people are as they are today, and allows us to better understand it and understand ourselves and who we actually are.

people are so suspicious of people that think for themselves, in this supposed modern day.. with all of the technological achievements, people also lack self-awareness and apparently don't think about how their actions effect the future of not just humanity, but the planet at large, and even species beyond this world. these things are weighty. it requires having a sense of responsibility, and holding YOURSELF accountable before anyone else.. and when people deflect and deny the virtue of questioning what is, they are also rejecting their own power to make things better and to live in a happier place.

The giants like Isaac Newton were all taught Philosophy as children because it was valued more than is now which I find very very odd.

@@wolfbeam9169 I'm afraid I find the presenter to be sloppy and unfocused. If UK education is so good, how come Finland abolished private education 43 years ago? Now it's the world leader in children's education - with only one external examination at the age of 18, just to take one facet. These new models of philosophy that he says '...have emerged in the past couple of years' - I don't know about the others, but Matthew Lipman's book, Philosophy for Children was published in 1976. It was being taught in a Halcon primary school in Taunton back in the early 2000s. And this lecturer shows his ignorance of the subject. Nobody laughs at other people in a properly modulated P4C session - the sessions are run on mutual respect, incorporating the 4Cs - Caring, Collaborative, Creative and Critical. He also said his preferred model of philosophy was Philosophy in Pubs - yet later on goes on to say that he thought that philosophy should be taught to children from the early years. I've changed my mind - Definitely the worst TED talk I've ever heard.
