Valentina Lisitsa
Recorded at marvelous Schaubühne Lindenfels Leipzig
Many thanks to MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra for
lending me the piano :)
A HUGE very special thanks going to The Embassy of Russian Federation in Canada (Ottawa), Russian Ambassador to Canada Alexander Darchiev and Press Secretary of Russian Embassy Kirill Kalinin - for "making" me learn this gem of music for a special concert dedicated to Tchaikovsky's 175th anniversary.
Janvier (January): Au coin du feu (At the Fireside)
January
A little corner of peaceful bliss,
the night dressed in twilight;
the little fire is dying in the fireplace,
and the candle has burned out.
(Alexander Pushkin)
Février (February): Carnaval (Carnival)
5:36 February
At the lively Mardi Gras
soon a large feast will overflow.
(Pyotr Vyazemsky)
9:09 Mars (March): Chant de l'alouette (Song of the Lark)
März
The field shimmering with flowers,
the stars swirling in the heavens,
the song of the lark
fills the blue abyss.
(Apollon Maykov)
12:24 Avril (April): Perce-neige (Snowdrop)
April
The blue, pure snowdrop - flower,
and near it the last snowdrops.
The last tears over past griefs,
and first dreams of another happiness.
(A. Maykov)
15:22 Mai (May): Les nuits de mai (Starlit Nights)
Mai
What a night!
What bliss all about!
I thank my native north country!
From the kingdom of ice,
snowstorms and snow,
how fresh and clean May flies in!
(Afanasy Fet)
21:12 Juin (June): Barcarolle (Barcarolle)

Let us go to the shore;
there the waves will kiss our feet.
With mysterious sadness
the stars will shine down on us.

And the noon wind
breathes in the face!
(Aleksey Koltsov)

The harvest has grown,
people in families cutting the tall rye down to the root!
Put together the haystacks,
music screeching all night from the hauling carts.
(A. Koltsov)
33:54 Septembre (September): La chasse (Hunting)
September
It is time!
The horns are sounding!
The hunters in their hunting dress are mounted on their horses;
in early dawn the borzois are jumping.
(A. Pushkin, Graf Nulin)
36:55 Octobre (October): Chant d'automne (Autumn Song)
October
Autumn, our poor garden is all falling down,
the yellowed leaves are flying in the wind.
(Aleksey Nikolayevich Tolstoy)

In your loneliness do not look at the road,

Once upon a Christmas night the girls were telling fortunes:
taking their slippers off their feet and throwing them out of the gate.

This video is a real work of art. Thanks God we have the chance to be delighted by her music and... Omg listening to her reading in her mother tongue is beyond anything else good from this world.
I have no idea what you are saying, but I like watching you say it.
Tchaikovsky is my favourite russian composer.
How wonderful is to see a great virtuose like Lisitsa playing pieces like this, not so technically challenging but with the most beautiful melodies ever written... she definitively understood the true meaning of the art that she does.

@@r.j4449 Totally agree, a piece like this has just a bit different path to master it.
Valentina - in a day when record labels are gasping for air - major pianists are increasingly even more careful to share their art with the mass audiences (except when paid to play in concert for a paid audience) - it is incredible that you are delivering more outstanding top recordings of substantial works. A very well known pianist once said he would rather play concertos since they were easier to prepare for and orchestras paid more. Yet you have shared everything from delightful short works to the Rachmaninoff First Sonata to this Tchaikovsky Seasons to major Liszt and Schumann works to Chopin's complete etudes to numerous other major sonatas and short treasures. How lucky we all are that you are the (and the word the is real) pianist who is taking on such a substantial portion of the piano repertoire at such a high level, and allowing not just the few to hear it, but all of us. And of course, anyone who can listen past the short dresses, the bare back pianists, the pianists who align themselves with politicians, or the pianists who practice in front of mirrors to perfect their acting on stage all in the purpose of swaying audiences outside of their musical ability or lack thereof - these people who have good ears know you are one of the absolute greatest pianists alive.

+classicalalways I absolutely agree with you in every word you've written,, this lady is incredible indeed in many ways, she is a GIVING personality, she is generous, she gives with no return, she could have exposed only parts or excerpts as Ads. for her works, to urge the audience to buy her records, she could've made millions out of her musical legacy and brilliancy of playing, but she preferred to let the millions of audience enjoy her works willingly, just to make us happy, with more love to her, not only as an extraordinary pianist, but also as a great soul a great modest human being,,, God bless you Val, you certainly are a unique personality.

If a channel can be built up as Valentina has done with quality content and the "human" element such as interaction through comments and whatnot the situation becomes a win-win for all. With enough subscribers and views more money can be made than a standard concert career alone while opening up this music and its advocacy as it were to a vastly larger audience than otherwise possible and ultimately enlarging the pool of those who might attend concerts and purchase albums. We also are able to see the artist in a more intimate way so that Valentina, for instance, is to her fans, more than just a great pianist but a real admirable woman. Other artists would be wise to adopt this format

Thank you Valentina! You are great!

Not only performing piano pieces but also epigraphs to them - that sounds charming!
I've just had a wonderful revelation. About 25 years ago when I was 7 or 8, we had one of our first music lessons at our primary school, where we were played differents pieces of orchestral music in order to test our basic musical abilities, whether we were able to identify the pieces, distinguish them from one another etc. We were told who wrote each piece, what the "name" of the piece was and a very basic description of its musical idea. For example Smetana - Moldau - a confluence of two small streams , Haendel - Fireworks - fireworks at night, or Tchaikovsky - Troika - a majestic three-horse carriage. I liked the "Troika" the best, but was never able to find it in any library or later on the internet. That is until this video, at 34:18. It wasn't a troika. It was a hunt in September! Thank you, after 25 year, I finally got my answer!
her fingers just do the magic Tchaikovsky what a feeling

Wow such astonishing especial performance, recording and publication this. That is why Valitina Lisitsa is for me one greatest living pianists today and why I have never missed a publication of her on KZread since I have discovered her just as she had created her KZread channel. Valentina if you read this: once more I deeply want to thank for all this work and joy you bring to me and I think also to the world. With love, affection and passion the very best regards!
Valentina , I LOVE YOU❤❤

You are incomparable Val, I've said it before, and will always say it, not only as great pianist, but also as great soul, a great HUMAN being, a generous giver, a modest and ethical person, looks always for the pleasure of her audience, the audience who deeply love her, and highly appreciate her,, Thank you Val for every thing, thank you for being among us,, God bless you dear... By the way,, your make up in narration is superb, you look more beautiful and attractive than any movie star.

So wonderful!!! Thank you for uploaded!!!
Thank you for the spirit of Tchaikovsky, amazing Val!!
I don't understand Russian language, but I'm hypnotized by the way she recites those poems. As for her pianism, amazing as always :))
Ms. Lisitsa , thank you for the whole series and the notes to the tracks , very valuable to a conscious listening
Fine art expressed in poetry and music.

The soft voice reading the short poems introducing each month, the bautiful music, the graceful playing, ... simply ecstasiating. Thank you very much for posting and sharing your art.
I think the seasons are some of the most delightful and touching pieces by Tchaikovsky. Thank you so much for bringing them to light again with such patience and intent.

You are the best of the best! Your hand motions are hypnotizing. They are so graceful and elegant. It looks like your hardly touching the keys. Watching you play is as enjoyable as listening to you play.

A top Seinway D..., a top quality of recording (microphone, sound taking), and a top pianist ! THESE THREE THINGS TOGETHER MAKE A WONDERFUL VIDEO ! THANK YOU THOUSAND TIMES VALENTINA !
Valentina Lisitsa; I am thankful that you are overcoming various hardships for those who love music and offering wonderful performances. And I hope someday I will play in Japan.
very nicely done
Fantastic! Thank you.
Amazing 🤩
She is so beautiful ...
Thank you
i like this style of video playing piano~~~)))
*Fascinasting!* Thank God I long ago got over the mindset that the more difficult a piano piece is to play, the better it is, and vice versa. This shows why. I'm sure some will sneer at this "easy to play" work. Easy to play, but very very difficult to play well, She plays it well. Listening to this, along with my three cats, at 4PM Pacific time. A perfect way to end a sunny warm afternoon. >^..^ Boxing Day 2016: Listening to this a second time.
always the best
Amazing!!!
You blow me away!
Merci, merci.
