The thing with his daughter is that she talked about Taylor Swift's private jet and that she should use cars more forgetting that her own dad literally said he took private jets flying around the world to read bedtime stories to her. Then she undermined the AI pictures of Taylor circulating on Twitter saying it wasn't important because it happens to other people, basically saying that sexual harassment is not important when it happens to someone famous. That's what Dave's daughter did. It was stupid but for every actions, you have consequences.

Exactly. She exhibited very pickme behavior and the consequences dis not all come from “swifties.” There are plenty of women sick to death of that bullshit. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Not sure what Taylor was supposed to do about this?! Idiocracy and misogyny.

Personally, I detest that whole "I wasn't being serious" or "I was just joking" BS. I can absolutely see other artists simply feeling annoyed or jealous because presently a lot of people are just wanting to see Taylor Swift. And yeah, she kind of has a monopoly on touring right now. Does it suck for the other artists? Sure. But you know what? That's also part of life. How long have the Foo Fighters been around? A long time. Main point is, be a decent person, and don't put down another artist to remain relevant. It's that simple.

Just a quick comment, the Swifties that attacked his daughter were wrong to do so, BUT that was not Taylor Swift herself, and she had zero control of that situation or th fans that did so. Grohl made his comments himself, with 70,000 in person witnesses and millions worldwide. To me that is the difference, Grohl made it personal against Swift herself, for something she had zero input or control over. Artists, big or small, should support one another, end of story.

She doesn't have backing tracks. She has four vocalists, called the Starlights who have been with her from the first tour and their voices blend perfectly with hers. So she doesn't need backing tracks to save money. They are on stage with her throughout the concert. They aren't hidden behind a curtain. She also has her band called The Agency. Most of them have been with her since 2008. So for him to disrespect a female artist, her vocalists and her band is uncalled for and there was no need for that.If he is upset bc some of her fans went after his daughter, then criticize them but to use a lie that he knows that haters use against TS is out of place. In the past the Foo Fighters would have been the main number playing in London, Now, she was the bigger number that weekend, so if he didn't like it, he shouldn't have played the same weekend she played. It is sad that someone like him with such a trajectory would come across as a bitter old fart trying to belittle a younger successful artist.

Dave Grohl has been in the business long enough and knew damn well what that was going to do. He was jealous, petty and he needs to grow the fuck up. Honestly, it doesn't matter what he's said about her in the past. WORDS HAVE MEANING. He said what he said and we give men that age more grace than they will EVER give a woman, especially one younger than them. No, we're done. The Foo Fighters haven't been "popular" in forever and he knows it. He could have aged gracefully and rocked out with the Swifties on the floor like Paul McCartney did, but he didn't. It's called consequences to speaking so freely without thinking about it first. Taylor NEVER talks shit. She focuses on her own business.

I think the grossest thing about the joke Dave made is that the crowd boos Taylor the moment he brings her up and he doesn’t shut that down at all. I think it’s a pretty bad look on an artist to allow that kind of energy towards another artists at their shows. Jokes are fine and having some legitimate gripes with an artist or their fans is fine, but we can still be respectful and supportive of each other especially in a forum like that

The problem with how it was taken was that he was playing in the same city at the same time at a lesser venue doing fewer concerts. It came across as petty jealousy with people discussing that he probably walked trough London unrecognized and only saw Swifties and things related to her concert like special metro signs etc and nothing about his old men band.

The "errors tour" is actually TS fandom inside joke due to the errors that she has made on stage which further prove she sings live. So he's even using her fandom's pet name for the eras tour?

You best point here is that Dave, perhaps unknowingly, furthered the narrative that Taylor is "terrible" in front of a rock crowd. He could have said he was joking or that he was kidding or that there was no room for Taylor slander there. It was a disappointment from someone who KNOWS she is an incredible artist.

Even if he was joking, it’s a “joke” from someone people respect, perpetuating this long-standing, harmful narrative that Taylor isn’t cool, and isn’t talented.

Real Swifties shouldn’t be attacking the Taylor haters. The real Swifties should be having fun and loving the Swiftie life and Taylor. Thank you for always supporting Taylor! I hope all of us Swifties show you the same ❤

Nice commentary, as a Swiftie I thought she handled beautifully. It is over and she moved on. The public should as well, there are much larger issues in our country/world.

I am not saying no to the "in a show, you get amped up" thing BUT in 18 years of career and EVEN after what she considered the theft of her career (Kim&Kanye issue in 2009 and 2016 again) and then the Sale of her masters "from under her" (there was nothing illegal in the sale it was just ef-ed up that she wasn't allowed to buy them her self) I HAVE NEVER heard Taylor say ANYTHING negative ABOUT any other artists *FROM STAGE IN THE MIDDLE OF A SHOW unless it was to praise them* EVER Now, has she talked about some people? YES, she has. she had *the monologue song* IN *SNL* directed not JUST at Kanye then again it was a skit and she only mentioned what he did and the measures she "was taking" to avoid a repeat. in her 2019 Billboard Woman of the Year speech (which again was a speech AT an award ceremony, NOT a concert) she talked about Scott and Scooter and told the audience how she viewed and felt the situation. She DID NOT engage with the crowd and was not looking for a "f- you (insert name)" like you usually see at these concerts of which there are plenty of examples. Other than those TWO instances NOT ON A CONCERT STAGE she has never talked about anyone ON STAGE unless is to HYPE THEM or THEIR NEW PROJECT. So yeah, I get your point of adrenaline BUT it feels more like low-hanging fruit for THESE people who keep doing it. and again if he is pissed about the situation with his daughter... THAT had NOTHING TO DO with Taylor. and EVERYTHING to do with the crazy people who attempt to call themselves Swifties but ARE NOT. They are the furthest thing from an actual Taylor Swift Fan. I agree with your take on this. Taylor Swift addressed the comment with grace and humor. I'd say she gave it all the attention it deserved--which is not much. She knows her worth and her talent and hard work--as well as that of her band and backup singers and dancers--are out there making the case every day.

Yup. Just went and rewatched. This wasn’t taken “out of context”…. He 100% knew what he was doing when he said what he said. I think alcohol played some role in Dave's outburst, I also believe he was fully aware of what he was implying. Which means there was some intent in his words. That's what made it all the more shocking, because it's so out of his character. Dave's been considered one of the most nice and genuine guys in rock since before Taylor picked up her first guitar. So something - or likely a combination of things - must've pushed him into saying what he said. Folks attacking his kid would surely be on that list.

The issue is he’s trying to diminish the hard work of not only Taylor but her entire band who do play live and have played live three to four nights a week for three and a half hours every one of those nights for a year and a half. That’s not something he should be proud of doing as a musician himself. And Taylor should be pissed that yet another artist is tarnishing her reputation for their own gain. It’s not just Dave this has happened to her her entire career. Just this year alone both Billie eilish and Charlie xcx have both tried doing it and Taylor has gauged Charlie a platform to open up for the last tour and has spoken so highly of Billie. Dave is not exempt from the criticism he’s receiving for perpetuating this cycle Taylor has endured for two decades. He’s an older man trying to destroy her reputation cause his daughter decided to be a prick online and found out. Why the hell did Dave even decide to involve Taylor in a situation she had no part in.

I think that many artists and also KZreadrs and influencers come for Taylor Swift for the publicity. It’s like a standard thing to do now for cheap engagement. It’s actually sad how much our entertainment economy is now run on anger and divisiveness, if it’s not about taking jabs at Taylor it’s about manufactured beef between artists that reduces really concerning accusations against artists to “who had the better takedown”. Seems like it’s gotten so much worse in just the last year

I’m in a very unique position. I’ve seen both live within 9 days of one another. Murrayfield & Hampden. I have a rock & metal background in music. I am a converted Swiftie. The rock and metal scene has been found stale for years. Some take themselves too seriously. It’s why I also have Country and Drum & Bass in my music rotation. If a rock/metal band performs to a click, isn’t that taking away from the live show? I’m now wanting to go to see a show, watching 4 or 5 dudes play their instruments with minimal lighting and production just isn’t me. I think people want to be entertained now. Video screens, lasers and good lighting is a must. Taylor is many things, something she is someone who plays live.

I mean, so say what you will, but “joke” or not the fact that he says what he says tells me that it’s been a thought in his brain. But, zero excuse for him to have said that.

Also it wasn’t the private jet issue the swiftness were upset about with Dave’s daughter. She essentially said that the ai p0rn released of Taylor was no big deal bc she was a celebrity.

Dave clearly hasn't seen her choke on a bug, or stop mid song during her acoustic set to call out for help for a crowd member, or try to stifle a laugh cuz some Swiftie got to her with their hilarious ridiculousness. If she had a backing track for vocals... wouldn't you still hear the vocals when she stops to call out for help or choke on a bug???

It’s not “for no reason,” good sir. It’s because of misogyny. If Taylor writes about women for women and her fans are women and girls of all ages, then it doesn’t deserve respect, goes the narrative. And her fans are deeply triggered by the aggressions and microagression that come at her and us. And I know there has always been a “my music is cooler than yours” dynamic and music gatekeeping. But this goes beyond that. Who else is made responsible for their fans? No one asks male lead acts about their PJ use, or any other privilege they may have. No one understands or even mentions how many stalkers she lives through. I understand his little girl got hurt on social media. You formulated perfectly what I have been thinking. The narrative of Taylor being untalented in every way and the uncoolest ever is because she has never tried catering to men. She writes honestly about her experience and it has mostly attracted a female audience and she never tried to change that. Must mean she is bad at singing and dancing, not writing herself or doing anything to deserve her success, how can all those women and girls love her they are so stupid and don't know what good music is. All I written sounds harsh but compared to reality it's pretty mild. Just look at so many reactors that go "I can't believe I like this/she actually is good, who knew?!" When the obvious answer is 90 000 thousand people 3 nights in a row in most major cities in the world sometimes with 20 000 people outside AND all the people that couldn't get tickets AND all the people that couldn't afford it at all. I'm not at all saying that everybody must love her or they are wrong or lying when they don't. But the automatic disrespect and derision is just misogyny.

i'm sorry J but this once i totally disagree. the fact that he praised her in the past doesn't make it better, it makes it worse, someone she respected and thought respected her back suddenly throws a jab at her for no reason, just because he knew it would become a thing and it would spreed, he's taken advantage of that and it sucks and it was uncalled for. and the fact that "she's killing it" and "she shouldn't care" doesn't seem like an appropiate response, we shouldn't nomalize putting up with mean and bully behavier as something that comes with success, it's wrong always, no matter who says it and to whom they say it to. also if he's railed up at he's concert for whatever reason and choses to make self deprecating jokes thas his prorogative and it's cool that you feel undersanding but i do not think it's normal to have a concert and having that conection and moment with your fans and having the need to put down and joke at the expense of other artist. i do agree people should leave others alone to enjoy that they want and i also don't consider myself a swifty eventhough i love her and her music but i don't keep up with the fandom so i also dont know what happened on twitter, but she's been through a lot over the years and eeeeverybody seems to suddenly have something controversial to say about her just to get their 5 minutes of fame, i understand why everybody got so defensive after they put her trough anf how they made her hide from the world for a year and shattered her mental health and selfesteem...like we just want everyone to leave her be, it's no such a crazy ask. so im really soory, i get you want to be impartial but i find it a little enfuriating to think that if the same situation happened to some new upcommer teenager you would see it different, but as it happens to her suddenly it's okay and i do get it's not a big deal or anything lol it's just the principle of it that really bugs me

Okay- I know Dave Grohl actually adores Taylor and has often talks about how she ‘saved’ him at a party at Paul McCartney’s house. I think she would have ignored it except she wants to make sure her band & singers (who works super hard on this tour), gets the credit it deserves and only because the media and the constant crap out there about her lip-syncing. But anyone who actually pays attention knows she doesn’t. But I think she knows Dave well enough to know he wasn’t really jabbing at her but took the opportunity to confirm she is live since there has been more lip-syncing claims as your has gone on.

Also who cares if Taylor Swift takes a private jet to cross the country or to fly to Las Vegas after a show in Tokyo , to support her man.

You can be self deprecating without taking a jab at other people, he should’ve left it at that. I saw the clip of a swiftie at his show and she felt uncomfortable, she was wearing TS merch while the crowd was booing at TS.

David has been trying to get swifites attention for a while. He mentioned her a few weeks before this incident where he complimented her stage stamina. His comment on errors tour isnt original as swifties often giggle about the errors on the eras tour. Taylor gets compliments from many artists that get swifites attention, but he only got it when he decided that bashing her and hiding it behind a joke was the only time he was going to be come relevant to her fan base. I think not only did he insult taylor though, he insulted her backing singers, the band. Sorry but he was being so rude and disrespectful.

I'm a retired stripper from, 1987 (to 1996) and danced in the Mötley Crüe, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Poison era. Ending in Enigma, Grunge, and the MDMA-loving sounds of Portishead, Massive Attack, and Chemical Brothers. But my love for ALL music is vast. As a GenX music maniac, I'm late to the Swift Party but since TTPD dropped in April, I'm enjoying the rabbit hole of all things TS, learning she is so much more than a singer; she's an artistic unicorn. I still enjoy classic rock like Nirvana (I used to perform to them on stage), and Foo Fighters, and have been a fan of Dave Grohl for over 30 years. I was bummed when I saw the clip, then I shrugged it off because just as you say here, who knows the backstory and more importantly, who cares? The world has more important things to focus on. Let's listen and dance to what we like. Period.

Loved your video, and I agree, some Swifties take it way too far, even with Taylor sometimes. The majority of Swifties are sweeties though, and she encourages kindness. I do love Dave too, but I never enjoy artists bringing each other down, but I think it hits harder bc Taylor has SO MANY HATERS, and have for years. I think we’re just sick of it, but either way hate and anger is never the answer. Talk to them calmly, lead with facts and kindness, it works, it makes new Swifties and brings more of us together.

Every major artist/band's fanbase, especially one as massive and passionate as Taylor's, will include a few folks lacking common sense and restraint. It's a given. Some of those fans responded to Dave's daughter's criticism of Taylor by harassing and threatening the girl to the point where she was forced to shut down all of her social media accounts. I'm certain Taylor was horrified by what those people did in her name. Did Dave try reaching out to Taylor's people, before his unfortunate outburst? Who knows...

I am 100% against any backlash to his daughter. I had not heard that it started by something that she said. With that said, Taylor DOES NOT put other people down. They are a well-oiled team by now and Taylor trains her on the treadmill singing her entire set list to get herself in concert ready shape. It shows. There are a lot of cool boomers out there, many of whom are swifties or big fans of Taylor. There is no reason to put down one generation because you don't like that Grohl is from Gen X. No one cares what generation he belongs to or yours or mine.

I dunno man, I grew up on Nirvana, heavy metal, Queen, Phil Collins , Def Leppard and now prob one of Australias biggest Swifties to the point i have personalised swiftie plates on my 4wd hahahha. If you truely appreciate music it doesnt matter who it is, how its produced or the genre. Like i can go from Louis Armstrong What a wonderful world, to 9" nails, i wanna f you like an animal in the blink of an eye hahaha If it sounds good to you, thats all that matters. People on top at this level are always going to say shit thats going to upset the NPC's does it mean it takes away the fact they are all on top of their game? No Does it mean you have to take sides or stop listening? No I don't let things bother me unless its directed at me personally or to my family and thats how we should react to BS like this. Regarding the comment his daughter made, tbh she jumped in on a hate train against Taylor that’s already there and that’s the issue. I studied environment at university and constantly see see targeted comments about Taylor’s co2 emissions from her plane pop up on my feed. Not sure you know but even Taylor’s publicist had to address someone tracking her and her jet. It’s pretty serious. Again no one deserves hate, and swifties can be aggressive and unfair and I’m sorry his daughter got hat. But it’s a big thing, the hate Taylor gets about this is a *thing* and people jump on it without any prompting (and she’s not even in the top 30 celeb carbon emissions for her jet, and not to mention it distracts from the more prominent issues that contribute to the GHG effect). So while not ok, she definitely stepped into it for no reason and criticised Taylor unfairly. Again, not saying she deserved hate, but I also don’t think it’s an unexpected reaction in the grand scheme of that topic.

Exactly, given that she’s on the biggest tour of all time and still isn’t in the top 30 for private jet usage, and the fact that she pays DOUBLE the amount of carbon credits for her jet usage, I think we should be more objective about who we distribute the criticism to for jet usage. Just because people are having a good time talking about Taylor doesn’t mean it should be an opportunity to yell about her using a private jet to get across oceans instead of screwing over airports by flying commercial. There are tons of celebrities who aren’t touring and don’t have to be places who are flying more than her and aren’t making up for it with carbon credits, and that should be the main focus if you want to focus on private jets. Honestly, laws should be the main focus and getting people elected who will fund conversion to green energy sources, if you actually care about climate change, that has the biggest effect by far

Taylor hardly ever use a backing track because she always had backup singers. Four in fact. She’s always had her band of which 3 of them have been with her since her first tour. But thanks for defending her.

Exactly this. I respect him I can totally see how it was a foot in the mouth moment, if I’m giving benefit of the doubt I do think he was trying to make a joke on the fly. But as a swifty, watching the full video where the entire crowd is booing, and instead of nipping it in the bud he made a joke which no one can convince me he’s naive enough to not know was a slight and hate… it’s a bad look. It was inflammatory, but I do hope it blows over because I really doubt it was intended that way. I think the fact he’s said nice things in the past made this more of a slap in the face, I’ve seen swifty reactors who went in looking forward to hearing what he commented about taylor when the vid first circulated and instead it was this… 😮‍💨

There will always be mean ass trolls in any fandom. Those don’t relect an entire fandom for any artist. I get what you said, people go to hard on the internet. It’s not that serious like you said. If they truly hate each other (which i really don’t think) thats on them but they never showed that they do. As a lover of rock and pop and all types of genres. Again it comes down to bad seeds on the internet. Some rock fans are mean af to taylor. Some swifties are so mean to people who say one thing thats not serious. I one HUNDRED percent agree with that. Like people just need to realize that life is too short to be wasting your time writing stupid hate comments on a post that wasn’t even supposed to mean anything. Those “Swifties” that decides to attack are not fans. There’s a difference between attacking than educating on why certain comments that his daughter were made. I know Dave can sometimes stuff his foot in his mouth sometimes. And he makes these dumb ass jokes all the time. Maybe he was bitter because Taylor got the better venue over the weekend. Otherwise I don’t think it was that big of a deal. Taylor always gives her band a crew praise every show she does. So her response wasn’t anything other than the band is appreciated the ovation. Because that comment was after a 4 minute ovation. She praises everyone. She widely thanks venue staff all the time. Thanks security staff every night. People just need to chill and move on. We all know Taylor can destroy but likes to direct it towards something positive.

Absolutely agree! In this world, when we can be anything, can we please just be nice? For some, that’s obviously too much to ask, maybe their brain wires are too messed up, who knows. But for most people, it’s not such a great effort. As for being “Coldplay on Steroids”, I’d take that as a massive compliment, look how Coldplay just lit up Glastonbury?! i respect both taylor and dave in this situation. lets just be honest, i dont think this was specifically towards taylor, but her psychotic fans. since his daughter was absolutely cooked by the swifties by creating incredibly disgusting images of her because she stated some criticisms about taylor (which was completely true) and taylor responded well with stating how hard both her band and herself work so hard for these shows. and what i have to say about both of them is that dave should have never said that, because she obviously doesn't lip sync, and taylor needs to stop feeding off her psychotic fans and letting them get away with tagging grohl in ai generated pictures of kurt cobain with his brains blown out. she needs to say something, and dave needs to apologize to her and her band. thats it. no need for these fans to create stupid shit that doesn't need to be created. the fans are absolutely the problem and they need to get a reality check on how stupid they are because this is absolutely ridiculous. - a swiftie / foo fighters fan.

Love this channel and love you. But, idk this feels so lame, look at how the MSM just treated Timberlake when he’s arrested for DUI. No Grace was given to Britney or a myriad of other females. But, idk how anyone could hear what he said and NOT think it was a dig at Taylor. I believe she does use a backing track - I def think there are parts in most songs she doesn’t sing live. But holy fuck man, she’s singing 45 songs a night - she has the absolute mind blowing short time between sets (I feel like at no time is she kore than 2 minutes between each “era”). His band is actually very good, one of the highest performing of the last several decades, it’s an iconic band and he himself is an icon. He’s also got the reputation for being one of the nicest guys out there, so a snarky comment about a peer is kinda weird to hear from him, it’s not the norm. I think he was trying to be funny and it didn’t go as planned and it came off sounding a little sour and misogynistic, but I don’t think that’s the way it was intended.
