super late reply but i blame the record label mostly, not taylor swift. when she signed a contract it mentioned how they would own the song. it’s not rare it just depends on the label and you usually have to buy your work back, but not the case of taylor.

And fulfilled it. One cud argue she would not be in position to do this without their help. That said I'm sure they made then most of her success . It's not about money. She has more than enough of that. It's about someone else (someone she doesn't like) having control of HER voice, her work, her music. This is not a new concept. Paul McCartney has been trying to get control of his masters for decades. This is something many many musicians don't realize when they first start out and by the time they hit it big they have lost control of their work.

It’s promotion through contracts. If one dollar is spent for studio time. 10+ times that much will be used for promotions... expecting the gamble has high returns. If talent fails, or succeeds. Industry moguls profit either way. You could teach a monkey to fart in key (promote the hell out of it) tell the people what they like. And you would have a hit. As far as -0- ... you have no idea.
