I remember when Gotye won the Grammy for "Somebody That I Used To Know." Prince presented the award and actually said "I love this song." Gotye was just floored, because he'd grown up listening to Prince's music and couldn't believe it when he heard his idol say that about "Somebody That I Used To Know."

How can you seriously take an award from the hands of Celine Dion and not even acknowledge her, not even look at her, and not even thank her? I'm shocked!!!! Especially after Celine's health diagnosis and all that she's been through, not to mention she is one of the best singers and performers of all times. Taylor, what a disappointment you were at that moment in time, a total show of disrespect.

I’m a swiftie here. I love Taylor but this pissed me off real bad. How could she not even make eye contact? I still believe it wasn’t intentional and that she probably was too overwhelmed with excitement but that doesn’t fix the fact that she indeed f**** ed up. She spent all night having fun and being cool to everyone and couldn’t show respect to the person who handed her the award, who on top of it happens to be Celine Dion in probably the last or one of the last appearances she does in a show. Celine has been so ill and made it to the Grammy Awards to help present the best album of the year. Taylor went up on stage, grabbed the Grammy out of Celine’s hands, never acknowledged Celine, never looked at her, thanked her or showed any kindness, but bragged about how many Grammys she has gotten. Taylor has become prideful and is puffed up. Plus, her overly harsh makeup made Taylor look vampish and old.

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but when Celine Dion is giving her speech, and the camera pans out to the audience, there is a shot of Lana Del Rey (Don’t really know much about this person), who has this extremely bored m, uninterested attitude as to what Celine Dion is saying. Then this rude behaviour by Taylor Swift towards Celine Dion played out to everyone around the world. I take it Lana Del Rey is not a fan of Celine Dion, and the same goes for Miss. Mean, Rude. Taylor Swift. I mean, when you are given an award like someone as talented as Celine Dion, you embrace the person giving you the award. Taylor Swift is an adult, and she knows that despicable behavior would not go unnoticed. She was downright rude, and insensitive. Celine Dion is way more talented than both Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey put together. Celine is timeless, and is the epitome of what Class is, and above all true TALENT in all respects. I don't think Taylor was frazzled at all about winning. She has been through this many many times before. She's been through a lot more public events other than just the Grammys. I'm older but I still really liked Taylor and her music but to do what she did on stage. ? Absolutely horrible. She always makes a big deal about who she is with. Who cares about this Lana Del rey. Taylor Swift is arguably the most overrated artist of the decade. And this opinion is not coming from "toxic masculinity." Or politics. In fact, my politics align with Taylor's and I appreciate how she's encouraging her fans to become more politically active. I don't think Taylor Swift is even a bad artist; rather, I think she's a remarkably unremarkable artist. I've listened to most of her albums and find most of her work to be incredibly bland; vanilla and indistinguishable from so many other female pop songwriters. I don't find her music to be innovative, creatively daring or in any way distinctive, the kind of characteristics that typically make pop stars iconic. Indeed, I actually find other pop artists like Lady Gaga, Sia, Adele, Beyonce and Billie Eilish to be far more captivating. The oversaturation of Taylor Swift in the media and social media is equally egregious. It's as if a giant PR firm is bashing everyone on the head and forcing us to worship and fawn over her. I'm sorry, I don't buy into celebrity worship culture.

I'm not even a fan of Céline and even I can see the childish disrespect of a lucky woman (not even a hair of the talent and class Celine is) being a no one and gettung a bunch of fortune in the last two years out of nowhere just because of good marketing choices. Sorry but no vocal power in Taylor, no impactful lyrical pen (see: Mariah Carey for a reference). She should be grateful for where she is and for the moment she was in, along with one of the biggest pop vocal talents in history. When you think it's all for granted and due because you think you're this and that, you're actually a nobody. Remember to be HUMBLE.

Compared to how Miley Cyrus was excited for having Mariah Carey handing her the award to this ... atleast a look into her eyes, or a formal kiss on the cheeck before taking the award .. Celine is an icon in music who hasnt been public for so long. It saddens me how her first appearance went

The ugliest thing of the night was Taylor's indifference towards Celine, it is very intense and as if it were the first Grammy she had ever won, she is an ignorant girl. Celine is great and should have given her respect since the production put her there incognito. to present that award and the other one as if nothing had happened, it's a shame they didn't put it myle

You should find video that shows Taylor Swift when Celine Dion speaking at the Grammys 2024. Taylor just needs camera when she's singing Celine Dion song. After that she's sitting and busy with herself when everybody standing ovation for Celine. Taylor definitely didn't respect legend.

With all that Celine's been through she deserved a standing ovation and some acknowledgement from someome presenting them with an award for she is a legend.

It's like you were awarded the Royal Decorations from the Queen without making eye contact and thanks to her. (I prefer using The Queen by this context)

First thing I want to say is -- WOW at the force of nature Celine is! The level of respect one should give to Celine for not only having the fortitude for BEING there while battling the chronic pain & debilitation of her illness, but being *the* presenter of, arguably, the biggest award of the night should be given, without hesitation. YES, I'm disappointed in Taylor Swift for this & cringed when she essentially blew by her to grab her award, but I *also* cut her some slack as she'd clearly had a bit of wine, was chaotically corralled by people when she got on-stage, & seemed genuinely shocked she won again this year. Accepting an award during a *live* event is absolutely a different situation than performing on-stage as it's not rehearsed or really planned regarding HOW you'll react or what you'll say or NOT say. We have no idea what was going on in Taylor's head when she heard she'd won. I feel that *most* people would be JUST as scatter-brained & shocked. She's then ushered by a mob of people she on-stage & it then dawns on her that she doesn't even HAVE the award in her hands yet -- so, naturally, she rushed over to get it from Celine & get to the mic before she ran out of time. I chalk this up to just a chaotic, spontaneous moment of social awkwardness. FFS, people -- lighten-up. It appears that Taylor realized her mistake & did her best to show Celine the respect, gratitude, & love she deserved backstage. We, The Public & the 'fans' need to realize these celebrities are still HUMAN BEINGS. They still make mistakes & we, The Public need to lighten the f*ck up with being so judgmental when they mess up. This is why so many celebrities, like Taylor herself has admitted -- have mental health issues: the public's expectations of them is so impossibly high & doesn't allow for human mistakes. We *ALL* eff up -- even divas.

She took that trophy out of Celine's hands like it was a McDonald's employee handing her a Quarter Pounder Meal.

Most important is how you acknowledge the person giving you the award, a smile, eye contact and even thank you will do. Some artists that won even thanked the trophy girl.

Just shows you the kind of person Taylor is vs. Miley. God could’ve given her a Grammy and she would’ve snubbed him too. Miley even acknowledged and said that whatever with the award but the fact she got it from Mariah Carey was a big deal. Taylor needs the awards for external validation and happiness.

I’m sooo glad you posted this as I was thinking the same thing as soon as I saw it. How can you not acknowledge Celine Dion??? I love them both, but this is a terrible look on Taylor’s part. Not cool!!! 😠 and I don’t care that she took pictures with her afterwards, too little, too late. You had your chance on stage and in the moment to show some respect. I’ll be interested to see how she handles this in the aftermath.

i think just a public acceptance is important here, When you compare how miley cyrus responded to mariah carey to how taylor did to celine. Taylor has actually introduced celine dion at previous grammys AND has said dion is one her icons.. So its hard to sit there and say it was an unfortunate oversight. i think a public acceptance and a message would fix everything. Its one of those things where Celine, Mariah &Whitney continue to show why they are untouchable. Even as taylor surpasses they sales numbers, what they did, what they do, how they carry themselves is why those three are considered the greatest of all time. and when you put Taylor next to them. shes bottom tier

I am sure it was a moment of her being shocked. Everyone loves Celine Dion...

She had like at least 3 seconds to look to her team and look back to Celine really quick to acknowledge her, seems like Celine wanted to say something to her or congratulate her while giving the Grammy but Taylor just took it from her hands without even looking at her and run to the mic, and then she could have said something to Celine during her speech but still nothing. Not every one can say they have received a Grammy from Celine Dion’s hands and she just didn’t appreciate the opportunity.

Graeme, I love you for this. Thank you for being so objective and fair. Although I do know that there must have been a lot of things going on in Taylor’s head, it was tragically ironic that Céline started her presentation by acknowledging the legends that handed her this same award back in 1997: Diana Ross and Sting. Taylor didn’t acknowledge the legend presenting her the award that she had claimed years ago was “one of her idols”. And just to add insult to injury, Taylor singles out Lana Del Rey and calls her “legendary”, a “legacy artist”, and an “inspiration to female singers that wouldn’t be where they are if not for her” all great but definitely titles that Celine is more worthy of by a dozen times. Taylor even looks right at Celine when scanning for more people to acknowledge once she starts talking. It’s quite painful to watch. I do believe the photos of them backstage was a PR move by her team for some damage control. It was just super cringey to watch. Thanks for covering this! ❤

she knows how to carry the media momentum. there always has to be something dramatic. it's mastery. every time she's on tv or she's involved with something she will create some kind of uproar. people are interested in drama, not routine respect and courtesy.

As the poster here says the back stage photo doesn’t mean anything because those are staged by the photographers.
