TAXIING THROUGH A NEIGHBORHOOD - Leeward Air Ranch

There is something really cool and really strange about taxing an airplane through a neighborhood. After a short visit to FD04 (Leeward Air Ranch), we taxi the Baron through the neighborhood and compare it to Spruce Creek before taking off for a short flight to SGJ (St. Augustine, FL). We took the scenic taxi route through the neighborhood. It's a beautiful neighborhood and I spent more then a few days day dreaming about living there. Would you like to live at an Airpark?

I was working for a remodeling contractor on a project for Spruce Creek Fly-in Reality in the early 90's, specifically on John Travolta's hanger, and the project was halted because the HOA sued him,. They claimed his G-ll was too big and too loud, lol. He won the lawsuit, but sold his house and moved none the less.

Every time I would get an uplift bump. As you were coming down, there were two smokestacks by the power plant and sure enough, the video captured the bump. I was watching to see if it would happen. Some things don't change. Keep the fun videos coming.

Man, what a dream neighborhood! I couldn't even imagine pulling an aircraft out of my house, taxiing down the street, and taking off! That would be heaven! And that runway is smoother than ANY road in Massachusetts! Not even joking! 🤣 I laughed hysterically - "It's a metaphor for life". My wife had the same expression as Kim as I laughed ... but then, I got "the look" ... ! I said, "See, you just proved his point right there!" I'm going to clear out my truck for a place to sleep later. 😂🤣😂 I can't pick on the controllers, since I'm a rookie when it comes to aircraft, but, I would be hard pressed to mix a single with a twin. Just sayin'. 😁 Thanks for sharing the flight, Kris & Kim! Always a treat! 👍🍻

I've heard a LOT of controllers mix up Barons and Bonanzas. Bonanzas are so much more prevalent in the air, and controllers aren't really used to hearing Baron. Of course, when someone mixes up your Bonanza with a Baron, I'm not sure how you're supposed to feel. Of course, a new G36 with a TA Turbo turbonormalizing system ought to beat out most Barons in block time and even fuel burn, but you don't have the reliability of two engines.

Couple things related. Near my residence in North Carolina, there is an aviation themed neighborhood called Barron Plantation. I have also been to Jumbolair in Ocala. THat is where John Travolta lives. Finally, I have played a golf course in Saratoga Springs NY called Airway Meadows. The course plays around the runway that is owned by the neighborhood association. On holes 3 and 4 there signs instructing golfers to watch for aircraft before hitting their shots. If an aircraft is taxiing, approaching or taking off, play must STOP until the aircraft has cleared

The Baron's POH does not have a different procedure for Soft Field Takeoff. With that being said, the Grass strip was so smooth that I was not concerned. But if it was rough, I would have done everything I could to get the nose up right away.

Okay, three comments in the order I saw them. 1. What happened to Kim's arm? 2. The reason the guy fell off the bike was he saw you were going to blow the stop sign on the taxiway, which you did. Okay, that may not be the reason he fell off, but you still blew the stop sign. Does the community have police out there on the taxiways? LOL 3. Nice landing, but you know you've totally jinxed yourself now. You didn't make Bryan's streaming video today? What happens if a resident has to sell his airplane? Does he have to steel his home also?

I'm more curious what happens if the homeowner loses his medical and has leave flying? I'm guessing that they will be grandfathered in and will be able to remain as residents.

I assume you are grandfathered in. It’s just to keep non aviators out.

FLY- n-M a lot of people buy property in Fl and hold onto it to drive up the price. This keeps them out of a true aviation community and moderate pricing. The people who sell planes or lose their Medical are allowed to stay, it’s just the initial purchase stipulation. 🙃
