What is Foundation?
Foundation is a grid-less, sprawling medieval city building simulation with a heavy focus on organic development, monument construction and resource management.
The game features in-depth resource management akin to the Anno (Dawn of Discovery) series, expertly mixed with city building elements from Settlers, SimCity, and Pharaoh all topped with narrative encounters inspired by Crusader Kings II to create the ultimate medieval ant-farm simulation.

Time to tax them. Tax them all! Getting that garden masterpiece built will help significantly. The soldiers heal so much faster with that built, and with how often you want to send them out on missions, especially in early game, it's almost necessary. Some advice for later, once you start getting into tavern building: starting farming early on and having an excess of wheat (do NOT be afraid of going overboard with farms, trust me, you will need the all the wheat) will help when you start making beer. You'll want to rely more on making beer than berry brew, because the brew will take up a significant amount of your berries. That being said, the brew is still a good backup drink for when the commoners/civilians go through everything else. I would also suggest eventually building a monastery, if only just to get herbs, as they are the one and only easy luxury source to obtain. There are also a few jobs in it's unlocks that leads to jobs that employ citizen, such as the stained glass workshop, (an add on to your builders hut that employs one citizen), beekeeping, (the candle workshops employ citizen's and the honey from the bees is a bonus luxury), and, of course, whinemaking, which itself doesn't employ citizens, but the cooperage that makes the barrels needed to make the whine does employ citizens. Sorry if some of this is a repeat from the comment I made last episode, I can't remember everything I said there haha. This village has a very nice seed and I am very excited to see how it will grow! Thanks for the extra episode! It was a nice surprise on my dash :)

Exciting episode. Please note that your soldiers are not considered residents of your village. Not even if you promote them to soldier. They therefore do not pay any tax. From your occupancy level of 70 you have to subtract the number of soldiers. So you currently have 50 residents. I myself try to accept assignments where the loot also includes swords to make my army bigger. I also have the feeling that the soldiers don't get fully trained if they don't all have their own training dummy. But that costs clothing material to build. I did learn something. So apparently I am not obliged to build barracks for the soldiers. These cost a lot of material and are charged monthly as an administrative tax. Now you only pay tax on your fort. I eagerly await your next episode.

Yeah, they can and will live in houses, provided you have room for housing. Territory expansion is hard for this achievement!

@@ysharros Yes. I've experienced this dozens of times now. I can't keep count of how many I've taken on this last challenge and always fail. because I already unlocked every other achievement.

Shark Tooth Bay, we hardly knew ye. Liking the new village though. Off to a great start! Eager to see where this one goes. I'm thinking of starting up a new one soon as well. I've gotten to a point in my current run where everything is too spread out and fixing the problems seems insurmountable. We'll see. Gonna make one more episode and see how we are at the end of it then go from there.

Making a ton of commoners (about 25% of my pop atm) is exactly what I'm doing in my attempt, but getting the sheep-folds, weaver, and tailor up and running was pretty rough money-wise.

I've started this one twice so far, once with the Keep and once without. So far I'm maaaaybe doing better without the keep? It's hard to tell -- it's pretty hardscrabble either way. I have about 100 people now in this second attempt, and have possibly reached the stage where I can stop doing tax levies pretty much back to back and just rely on normal taxes. It's very likely I'm just trying to go too fast, and I suspect this Devoted to Labour/hard achievement rewards patience, especially early on. I have so many resources, simply because I can't build or I'll go broke -- the temptation to just sell one leeeeetle tiny plank, or clothing, or bread, is a thing, I'll tell ya.
