Ойындар
Hey everyone Rho here! Today we're asking the question: How will the Ethereals deal with the new Tau Goddess? Could this new rising faith change the Tau Empire forever?
General Spoiler Warning to begin as the events we're discussing today are from across the Warhammer 40,000 universe. So you have been warned!

Dude, I love if that is the path they are going down. Tau needs some chaos, for the good of their society. In a society with such perfect control, a bit of chaos is a good thing. Personal freedoms are good for a society but are also the seeds of chaos. With Tau GW can explore stories they never can with the Imperium. In the Imperium absolute societal control failed. In the Imperium chaos is mostly a bad thing, because you need some control to have a functioning society. But in Tau society control succeeded, they need chaos. And Farsight is bringing it, as long as he doesn't go too far and fall to complete chaos.
Would be interesting if this resulted in Shadowsun starting a third faction of Religious followers of this goddess. Than it'll be the Ethereal's Empire, the Farsight Enclaves and finally Shadowsun's Faction. Wonder if the Ethereals will then make Kais (the other Puretide pupil) their poster child?

I like the idea that the Tau'Va God will become the answer to Chaos. Chaos representing the forsaking of all else for personal power vs the Tau'Va forfeiting all personal power for the betterment of all when the individual desires nothing, chaos has no hold upon them (A similar sentiment is mentioned in Brutal Kunnin regarding why Daemons hate the Orks)
This goddess has already proven useful, by saving the 4th sphere. If the Ethereals were smart they would harness this faith, directing it to shape the goddess into a warp based defensive system.

I think it would be cool if shadowsun becomes a believer in the goddess. Then she gradually starts pushing it and seeing what the goddess can do eventually becoming a full believer

Would be a good way to make a new Tau subfaction. The Ethereals unperson her like they did with Farsight and she decides to abandon the empire to create her own faction of religious believers in the Tau'va goddess. The Goddess could also give her a blessing to extend her life and to survive even the most grievous of wounds, further cementing her faith in her. So you have the Tau Empire ruled by Ethereals, the Farsight Enclaves led by Farsight and the Tau'va Crusade led by Shadowsun.

I don't think she or the T'au themselves needs to be belivers to work with the T'auva entity. They can easily have a more grounded approach to this immaterial ally, which would make for some quirky and intersting stories, especially since they are aware of the absuridty of the situation. Also they know this isn't the first time something so absurd have happened and will probably do their best to avoid creating another Ecclesiarchy.

The Tau already tried that when a Genestealer Cult formed on one of their world. When the Genestealers proved to be pricks like the Dark Eldar they spent about a decade getting rid of every single Genestealer on the planet. They even developed a cure for the Genestealer infection, this efficiency against Genestealer cults definitely doesn't make the Imperium Inquisitiors jealous, nope not at all.
@nonya1366
Жыл бұрын
Oh they do that pretty often. They see it's tyranids, turn around, and tell the fire caste to explain the greater good to them instead.
The question is when are they going to start using this in the tabletop? The existence of a Tau goddess will be tectonic shift for the Tau, who themselves have no warp powers of their own. But like the Emperor, simple belief in the Greater Good (not necessarily the goddess) could empower them in ways not unlike that of the Sisters of Battle. To some degree this is already explored in the tabletop with the Tau Ethereals somehow buffing nearby Tau units through their auras (whether this is a unique ability of the Ethereals or comes from somewhere else is a good question). But I think this is probably the single most important event in the Tau's history, as it at once brings them in line with basically every other faction having some kind of warp based deity or assistance (Humans: The Emperor, Orks: Gork and Mork, Tyranids: The hive Mind, Chaos: The Four Gods, Eldar: Khane and the dead pantheon), and effectively shatters their current entire philosophical and completely facts based approach to the galaxy and begins to interact with the Immaterium (not necessarily great, but a major move for the faction as a whole). I see this goddess as a great move on part of GW as it makes the Tau a more nuanced faction and may eventually even lead to more Tau factions. So far we only have Farsight and the Tau Empire itself (though the Farsight Enclaves have not been a developed as they probably could), and gives us those who remain fervently loyal to the Ethereals, those who reject the Ethereals (Farsight), those who embrace the goddess Tau'Va and those who reject the goddess Tau'Va.

@@Broomer52 correct, but as the Shadowsun novel proved very definitively, it seems to be an entity that sees the Tau race as her origins and is willing to assist them. It has already done this twice. "Do not trust them all." Puretide's final words to Farsight. @@Rowan3733 I was hoping for a Death Guard story line to have more of an impact then they did but with a chunk of Tau over on the other side of the rift more interactions with Chaos may fortify the religion. Also at some point the Imperium will learn of a second way to get to the other side and will come for it....I hope.
so far, every single "good" race of note in 40k has had at least one dramatic fall. The Old Ones had the Wars in Heaven, the Eldar had the FAll, Humanity had the Cybernetic Rrevolt and then the Horus Heresy. For the T'au this is a question of when, not if. Additionally, witha god forming, that may also cause more psychically active T'au beginning to pop up. And considering the rise of psykers was possibly, if not probably, behind the human AI revolting as they understood the nature of Chaos corruption, I can see in lore reports astar mounting of more advanced AI systems in T'au use beginning to show "accidents caused by errors in code"
It is possible that the Ethereal could become like preachers of this Tau Goddess further cementing their power if they accept this faith. Yes they run the risk of the cast system falling apart but there is that small chance that it could make it stronger with them convincing people that the Goddess has placed them in their respective cast much like "it is your destiny" type of thing.
@ismaelsantos5378
Жыл бұрын
Or, to make it more interesting, you go this route: The Goddess Tau'va gets more powerful and Shadowsun becomes the chosen champion. So the Goddess grants Shadowsun extended lifespan as well as keeping the general in top fighting form and helping her recover from near mortal wounds. The Ethereals discover this, cast Shadowsun out, and the new champion of Tau'va forms her own faction made of those who worship the Goddess. So on the one hand you have Tau Empire, run by ethereals, Farsight Enclaves, run by Farsight, and Tau'va... Crusade? Heralds? Followers? led by Shadowsun.
Please give the Gundam bois a featured week, I really want to learn more about them!
I wonder if the Tau Goddess is a pre existing minor chaos god, like Vashtorr, that is attempting to ally itself with the tau since the other chaos gods are largely ignoring the tau. Could be interesting to see if it can spawn demons too, perhaps as an ally faction for the tau?
@Pizzifrizzo
Жыл бұрын
Spawning daemons seems a bit too much for its current power level. To make a comparison, the Horned Rat in AoS can only go so far as to make Daemon princes, and it's already a full and rather powerful god. Regarding this Tau'va having always existed... that's probably right, but more because time is non-linear in the Warp, than because it might be a demigod trying to ally itself with the Tau. For once, it's known that Slaanesh helped the aeldari birth itself, so I wouldn't exclude that this new god has been doing to something similar for some time.
@orrorsaness5942
Жыл бұрын
@@Pizzifrizzo That would be interesting. Perhaps The Ethereals know that this chaos god doesn’t actually have human origins, but Tau. I believe that this goddess is an archtraitor to the Ethereals and the Ethereals are merely pretending that this goddess is humanity’s fault. This would explain why the goddess claims that it’s the Tau who made her. Basically, she was a cult leader with her cultists as her simps and then she sold her soul temporarily to Tzeench who then turned her into a minor chaos god! The Ethereals then met her again and they cut her up, sliced her boobs, and trapped the archtraitor into the warp, hoping that she doesn’t get released after tainting the west of the Tau empire with her good looks. What does it take for her to reawaken? Psychic power and genuine belief in the greater good. Guess what humanity did?
@orrorsaness5942

@@Pizzifrizzo Now you may be wondering, why blot her out of history? Why not pull a Farsight on her and make her a warning? Farsight enclave has got to be the best place to live.
I mean I like the tau and the farsight enclaves because they represent a regular si-fi faction in the middle of a galaxy full of devils and maniacs . While they aren’t grimdark it is grimdark that they are too small to make a significant impact to the galaxy. Like if everything is grimdark doesn’t it start it not be grimdark. It starts to be regular so GW has to make the atrocities to become worse and worse until it mostly becomes pointless or basically a full galactic wipe like the halo array.
If I’m going to be honest I really don’t like the idea of the tau having a civil war. Some people are saying there should be a farsight heresy but in the lore for that to happen they would need to retcon a hand full of things like the Ethereal’s deciding to just ignore the fsoc. Farsight just wanting to do his own thing and that even both sides agree that killing another tau is socially unacceptable. Also it would make them even smaller in the lore then they already are because if they split up into multiple groups on the 40k map they would just not exist.

Spoilers: Farsight almost falls to Khorne and briefly becomes Doomguy
A civil war with the Tau empire effectively takes them off the board as any sort of major player. Sure lets say it happens and it end up positive but the loss of manpower can only be a negative. With the leagues of Votann being introduced as another "tech forward" civ, I can only see the role of the Tau becoming more minor.
Shadowsuns doubt coming from an encounter with faith mirrors own Farsights doubt following an encounter with Chaos too well for it not to be intentional. Whether it will just remain a point of intrigue or a sign of a greater key change in the direction of the Tau is difficult to say. Although the fact that we know there is a third pupil of Puretide in Commander Kais and Tau have short life spans, maybe the idea is that Shadowsun becomes the first proto-saint of the Tau thus granting her independent character immortality / insurance in time for the next big timeline development? And if the intention is to make her a renegade or mythic individual then it opens up the floor for the third pupil of Puretide to step in. (Although the Monat war philosophy might poke a hole in that theory...)

yeah the tau already lost farsight and the lot and now with the lost of shaodwsun they can't afford to lose kais as well or if kais pulls off the same moves like the other two did and gain a long life span as well then it will be a romance of the three kingdoms era period in tau history.
Im so gonna make the Tau'va avatar model now.
I wonder how the existence of the Goddess would affect the Farsight Enclaves. If the Ethereals do try to stamp out the followers of the Goddess, then they may find safe harbor in the Enclaves. Farsight's greater understanding of Chaos could make him more accepting of their faith as it may provide his people with a greater means of resisting the influence of Chaos.

I really just can't wait for the towel to have a whole chaos arch. I really don't want to be farsight falling to corn but it would be really interesting to see. Or maybe the ethereals fallen under the sway of the other gods
So the ally races all joined the Tau because the were sold some ideal of a Tau goddess? Dammit, the rumours were true! The Tau used waifus to turn people to their side!
By mentioning this deity had both human and tau features, this makes me think that the Emperor of mankind may be trying to influence the tau. I mean, even before his battle with Horus, the emperor was unsurpassed in his powers of concealing his true form. Now that he seems to be achieving godhood, manipulating the tau by pretending to be a tau deity would be childs play to him. Putting the tau into civil war would be the best way to prevent the tau from invading Imperial systems while minimizing casualties and resources

I think the Ethereals have some form of pheremonal control over their subjects. The Tao literally loose the ability to resist the ethereal when in their presence. It's got to be a biological process. Another thought is that perhaps we are watching the Tao undergo the same processes that humanity went through in our earliest ages. Maybe they are forming a Tao form of the Emperor in the Warp, my own head cannon, and only time will tell if it is stable enough to enter reality.

Hate to break the purge train, but in War of Secrets they had to use the Dark Angels to purge their undesirables because the Empire would not approve of them mass murdering auxiliaries and such.
Farsight and Shadowsun against the Ethereals?
What is so important about the Tau God is that it is born out of the believe of the non Tau species. Unlike the Tau, which are practically forced to believe the greater Good the non Tau Species believe in it out of actual conviction. The non tau species believe in it by themselves, without any Etherials mind controlling them. That's what makes the Tau so much more interesting to me.
Some would call her the Greater Goodess.
The tau may currently be non psychic but I believe that all sentient species have "grace" periods as humans weren't very psychic until later in their timeline and are still becoming more psychic as time goes on. In time the tau must begin their descent into madness and lose their innocence. In some ways this could be likened to eating the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge, an act no species is ever truly prepared for. All "gods" are inherently Daemons of the warp. This, I like to think, includes the "God emperor" who is the manifestation of the imperium and not the actual emperor who is dying forever on Terra. Not all warp entities are malevolent though pockets of benevolence are justifiable small with in the context of the warp itself. Aka paradise exist with in the warp and paradise is always lost in any story its "found" in. In the end the Tau were defeated by starting their journey. The tau will always exist as "the Tau and everyone else in tau space", the greater good simply can't accommodate this hypocrisy forever. No one else can ever truly be Tau but the Tau and eventually the Tau will be forced to admit this and don't be their ally on that day.
Tau with holy Battlesuits once belonging to martyrs of their goddess would be great!
There is the more terrifying idea. That the new God is much like the old eldar gods… loyal and subservient to the Etherial ones. Their power and influence now able to “infect” the other races on their soul level. The etherials able to guide and direct the force of a god. Would help shake the faith of humanity’s fractured and isolated empire. It all sounds benign, until you consider the extremes such a scenario have.
The ending theorys sounds alot like malleus and hereticus of the imperium
Don’t see why they can’t just promote someone else in place of Aun’Va rather than keep up the charade. It’s not a particularly good parallel to the Emperor if that’s what they’re aiming for.

It's especially weird considering the timescale. Sure, they might not want to admit to the assasination, but given the time that has passed in current 40k they could just say he died of old age and be done with this charade.
I'm surprised there is a tau god at all. The tau empire is pretty small on a galactic scale and even with some human worlds peacefully incorporated into the empire there still aren't THAT many of them in the tau sphere. The birth of Slaanesh took untold trillions of eldar (if not more) engaging in ever greater debauchery. The tau empire consists of... what? Around 100 inhabited worlds? And only a part of those worlds are non-tau.

@@Diyel All 'gods' are warp entities though. They are been identiefied as gods because the psychic backlash of their lets say portfolios grands them power that is perceived as god like. Its the same with all the eldar 'gods' and so is with the chaos ones, and so it appears to start to be with the dying man on the chair. But, the thing is, the goddess might even be a manifestation of the 4 trying to manipulate the tau. I'd wager mind control can happen through non-psyker means as well. Mechanical, Psychological, etc.
Woudnt greater good goddess want to keep castes as they are? It's been birthed from belief that they are sacred and necessary for greater good so...
Honestly, i'm fine with a greater good divinity. Just teach the people that this being is the living representation of the greater good, not a divinity to be worshipped directly. The chaos gods are very real, it's not such a bad thing to have ONE ally on the inside. It's also an interesting door opening, could the tau empire wield faith as magic instead of psyker powers? sororitas, even non psychic ones, can materialize miracles based on faith alone. The ethereal will be 100% against all this of course since, like you said, that would make them accountable for their decisions and cost them power. a shadowsun/farsight VS surestrike/ethereal civil war is very possible in the future.
So…. Everyone is saying Farsight Heresy… but why not the Shadowsun Heresy, she is the one who kicking off a civil war.
damn, didn't even mention Farsight
Farsight has had his own encounters with daemonic entities, so you know this will get The Enclaves involved
It would make sense to make a religious cast now with the Ethereals leading it of course
The Ethereals forming different factions on the issue would be very interesting. The policy of the Tau has been to integrate other species to make the empire stronger; and in a very real way, this Tau'va goddess is making the empire stronger. By dividing the Ethereals, we could get some real answers about who the Ethereals are as people and their history as well. Do the Ethereals truly believe in the Greater Good, or is that just a convenient philosophy to maintain political power? Are all Ethereals scheming bastards, or are there true believers among their number? The potential lore building is quite vast.
I personally see the corruption of the Tau more under Slaanesh or under Nurgle.
Maybe the ethereals already use the godess power. By having her trapped/bound and uses her power to enthrall the tau. But she have escaped or her binds have losend and she tries to get other tau leaders to recognize her and in the end free her from the etherals grip.

The etherials have had influence over other tau back when the race was pre-industrial. This would mean that the entity predates the tau. The theory that the etherials were created to shape the species for something isn't unheard of, but if the warp entity was already around they would have been aware of the concequences that recruiting psychic races would bring.

@@DERADI30 true and somewhere I think it’s stated that the Imperium could’nt sense any psychic or warp based reason to the ethereals control over the Tau🤔

Chaos Trojan horse.
Since their integration into the 40k universe, the Tau always felt... off. But not the T'au themselves : the ones calling themselves the "Ethereal" and their coming to the T'au. It always felt like they were exterior to the T'au in every litteral sense of the term ; that they were _alien_ to the "Alien" T'au, in the sense that they had their appearence but certainly not their "heart". What i mean by that is this : the T'au and their fate were basically just as ludicruously cliche and cringe as it comes : primitives hitting industrial era then armaggedding themselves into oblivion for (seemingly) no bloody reason. In other words, it should've been nothing but another unremarkable blip on the galactic glossary of never ending shameful shenanigans that composes it ; something so unremarkable that it shouldn't be worth even mentionning at all. Then the Ethereal appears, _seemingly out of nowhere_ and decide to f*ck with the script ; telling everyone to shill out, unite as a whole and kick science's ass and it's applications towards the military indusrial complex onto absolute overdrive. Six thousand years later, as the Imperium come into contact with them again, the T'au field anti-grav tech as basic, flying mecha like they'd be shitting takns and fielding Chickens and Wasps on steroids with guns. Like as if it was the most natural thing in the world. It's like the Tau were either an artificial species or one having been artificially tempered with by an external force that decided to re-do what has seemingly failed with Mankind. Like an "Imperium" 2.0 (not Guilliman style. Obviously.) I mean the similarities are stricking : Banning of faith. Council of bureaucrats with absolute power leading the whole thing. Emphasis on science and technology as it's core tenets. Propose annexation to foreign worlds into the Empire and destruction if refusing (slight divergence with the humano-centrist Imperium... but still.) An intangible autocratic ideology serving as the unquestionnable element that bind it's subjects into servitude (Imperial Truth, Greater Good.) Complete denial of Chaos existence and the warp' shenanigans to the population. Sounds like Big E got quite the fanbase. Because some of them decided to "resurrect the Beatles" up to their own standards, so to speak.
Reeeaaally hoping the Tau God/Goddess is not the Emperor in disguise. Then again it would be funny if the emperor of Man decided to ditch Mankind and is now aiming to lead the Tau instead XD
