    The thing about the puzzle symbol is that it's not just a symbol for autism. It's a symbol for a specific company/organization. The company is problematic. Therefore the symbol is problematic. It drives me insane when she says stuff like "would you be offended by a puzzle piece" without any other context. And just keep putting it permanently onto people's bodies without asking them how they feel about that company specifically every time they give autism as a prompt.

    Right, it's the symbol for Autism Speaks which a lot of autistic folks consider to be a hate group, with good reason. An alternative symbol that I believe was created by the autistic community is a rainbow infinity symbol!

  • @keybladewizard49

    @keybladewizard49

    10 ай бұрын

    It is also the meaning of the symbol itself, but only in a context that most people who just give a prompt of "autism" might not even realize, especially if they're not autistic themselves but have an autistic family member. The puzzle piece implies that we are a mystery to be solved that cannot be understood by outsiders, and also that we are missing a piece, or are pieces that don't fit in society. The puzzle piece represents the hatred and dismissiveness that company feels towards us. SO no, we're not offended by puzzle pieces, we're offended by people seeing us as puzzle pieces, and by people who think "autism" equals "puzzle piece" without understanding the history that symbol has.

    As an autistic person I can completely agree. If I was a tattoo artist and someone wanted the puzzle piece I would refuse, and she knows it is offensive and doesn’t care.

    I genuinely feel sorry for her clients. Maybe I shouldn't; it's hard to feel sorry for people who don't do research and don't listen to warnings. Still, awful work and stolen pieces tattooed permanently on their skin seems like a high price to pay for being foolish. Ariel is a stain on the tattoo community, and it's tragic that she continues to vandalize people with her work.

    I feel kinda bad, but also I think that “well if they like it that’s all that matters” mindset is not applicable in this case. When people get fundamentally bad tattoos by her it needs to be called out and those people need to know how objectively bad it is and why it’s bad. People need to be more trained in spotting what an actually legit solid tattoo should be, so hacks and scratchers can stop getting so many people to come to them. People like Ariel exist in this space because people just have no idea what good tattoos should look like and I hate that. Ariel is an insufficient, negligent, and dangerous “tattoo artist” anyone that still continues to give her social clout and money by getting tattooed by her are just as bad now because all they care about is the cheap price tag and honestly they’re putting their self at risk, and potentially others that come after them in her dirty ass space. Maybe that’s harsh, but at this point people can clearly see how problematic she is and people shouldn’t be supporting her.

Prison tattoos, military tattoos, gang tattoos, poked in your arm in the back of a maths class tattoos ! Why don't you just start tattooing yourself ? The stuff you need isn't that expensive - could just be a needle and ink , or get a machine n that from the Internet. Start on your foot and you would definitely have learnt something by the time you get to your knee - and you could show people what to expect if you rolled up your trouser leg ! Just sounds easier than waiting for some bullshit "apprenticeship"

    @clairecordell2461 because they want to get into the industry (aka needs experience and connections) which you can more easily build a good portfolio when you have a mentor that can correct mistakes and give tips to improve technique. Also tattooing on yourself is similar to doing makeup on yourself vs another. While you certainly can, you use a very different set of muscles and body position, which all change your technique in a professional setting.

    It must just be a lack of tattoo knowledge and education. When I got into tattoos about 2 years ago my eye was on this local tattoo shop who I thought was rad. However, after educating myself on tattoos and quality using channels such like this one I figured out the many red flags the shop had and took more time to figure out what exactly would be best for me. If I hadn’t done that I’m 10000% sure I’d regret my tattoo. Maybe this is what’s going on with those other peeps, too bad they didn’t take the extra time to make their decision like me but maybe it could be a learning experience somehow.

  • @natb5484

    @natb5484

    Tattooing laws in Texas are pretty lax compared to some other states - individuals are not licensed, the physical shop itself is (this may vary by county, but again state law doesn’t require artist licensing, just BBP training certification.) There is no legal minimum age required to perform tattoos, only to receive. Which means if you have a licensed shop, it’s not illegal under health dept rules to have a “properly trained” 12 year old working out of it. (But obviously not ethically great! Health risk for the child and the client as stated!) A San Antonio shop with an 8 yr old tattooing was shut down temporarily earlier this year - not for the child, but because they hadn’t renewed the shop license. Reopened after they paid for a new license. Examples of why it’s extra important to trust the tattooers you go to; a responsible tattooer keeps client and themself safe above the vague state requirements.

    On that 50 minute tattoo: Did she...not mirror the stencil? Technology is amazing and perfect for intricate, symmetrical tattoo designs. Gone are the days of free handing something that should definitely be refined. I'm not a tattoo artist, but I am an illustrator. I can maybe understand someone feeling like it's cheating to use tech short cuts, but I think it's especially important to use every tool in your arsenal if it's something that's going to be on someone permanently. Or is she just that bad? Edit after the Belle tattoo: GOOD GOD. She really is that bad. Listen. I don't really condone tracing, but how the hell do you fuck up what is essentially a trace?? I can't even. I would be mortified if I were the client. Not only is it not what I had wanted, but the new "design" was butchered. Stop giving this woman your money.

    If you look on the Belle tattoo on the left side of the head she drew part of the neck that was in the original drawing. The new head and neck are in different positions than in the original drawing. And also because of that she only tattooed half of the necklace because the new head she put on covered it up in the original. The necklace is also not going around the new neck but the old one. That's why she needs to make her own art so she understands what the lines are and make sure everything is cohesive.

    With that terrible stomach tattoo I noticed the easiest thing about the symmetry that was missed because of her rushing it so much.Along the top you can clearly see it's off, starting from that center point. Then along the bottom of the right you can see the part with 2 dots pointing out past the 3 little leaves(if that's what you call them) and on the left there is only 1 dot(also looks like there is a fourth leaf). Honestly the daughter looks like she takes more time and care while doing the tattoo The Belle is like a Funko Pop!

    As an apprentice in Texas, this is what my mentor has told us about tattooing minors and what I’ve researched regarding licensing on the State of Texas’ government website - you must be 18 in order to tattoo other people, and you also must be 18 in order to get a tattoo yourself unless you have a court order to get a tattoo covered up (only happens with gang tattoos and the like and extreme circumstances tbh). Permission from parents or guardians is irrelevant. There are only 2 states where parent/guardian permission for tattooing minors is allowed. As for licensing, a shop must be licensed through the state and pass regular health inspections but individual artists are not required to be licensed, if that makes sense. Some states do require that, but Texas doesn’t

    I have to say, if it's an artist I know and trust doing it, the idea of a "blind" tattoo seems like fun. Similar to gumball machine tattoos. From a distance the stomach tattoo, though very painful looking wasn't half bad, until the close-up. That's so bad, nothings symmetrical at all. Her daughter has cleaner lines than she does! Oh my poor Belle! I know her face/head is horrible, but can we talk about that spaghetti arm and hand? I do believe I've just seen tonight's nightmare demon. 😂
