I think the "cool tattoos" tik tok might have been more about hyping up girls with kind of "popular" trendy tattoos at the moment who usually get sh*t on for it because women, especially young women, tend to be dragged in the media for ANYTHING popular they enjoy :) if that was her intention i love that, big up women doing what they want without judgement ✨

A potential reason for getting a tat from a "nail tech" could be if they are in an asian country. In many places in asia it has been almost impossible to become a tattoo artist legally. As in... you must be a certified doctor before tattooing as an actual legal requirement, which is just an absurdity. So it is mainly under the table in those countries.

It’s nice to hear people talk about it! I was really worried about annoying my artist, but luckily the one I see has an autistic son so he is more understanding than most neurotypical people. He was really kind and patient about me fidgeting and needing some breaks to let out tics. I wish everyone could have positive experiences like that, but I know some people who had artists that got very annoyed despite them saying they were trying to stay still but couldn’t :/ I get that it can be frustrating trying to tattoo someone who isn’t sitting still, but it’s just as frustrating (if not more) for neurodivergent people who struggle to stay still. We don’t want to cause issues!

There are also people with chronic pain who can’t stay in the same position for hours without getting up to stretch for a minute!! There’s lots of reasons people might move around. Part of what makes a good artist is trying to consider the feelings of clients, and imo patience should go both ways to make it a more comfortable experience. I’m pretty sure taking small breaks is less annoying than someone moving around a ton during a tattoo lol

Thank you for bringing this up! I have so much going on that it's important that I find an artist that makes me comfortable and is understanding as possible. I'm autistic/ADHD and have issues with things like knee and back pain so I often need to reposition myself to either prevent pain or I sometimes fidget a bit when I try to sit still for a long time. Bringing something to have in my hand(s) often helps me for fidgeting though

I still have my childhood teddy, it was a Clifford the Big Red Dog teddy. He's needed surgery so many times...😢 I had to retire him to a box so I wouldn't completely destroy him, he was getting old (he is 21, my big sister and grandma got him for me when I was one year old). I loved that teddy so much, I was still afraid to sleep without him until I was 19 because he helped massively with my anxiety and depression. The idea of getting a tattoo to represent the love I had for him, that seems like a beautiful step to take.

I almost completely agree that tattoo's are a luxury item. HOWEVER; in human trafficking, and the crime world a lot of people end up branded or tattooed. In those cases having a tattoo cover up is life changing, and may fall into the grey area of necessity vs luxury.

  • @saskia9720

    @saskia9720

I think she meant tattoos are a luxury in regards to price, rather than motive for getting one. Cosmetic surgery and tattoos can be life changing, but it's a financial luxury to be able to afford to change your life in that way. And while these things may drastically increase your life satisfaction, it's still not as necessary as food, water, shelter, hygiene, education etc, hence why it's referred to as a luxury rather than a necessity.

I have a pretty cute story about the teddy I sleep with now - I lost my childhood teddy "Bear Bear" overseas when I was 11yrs old and I was heartbroken but I didn't show it to my parents. Well, my grandmother hunted down a baby 3-inch version of the same bear but couldn't find a replacement. Years pass and my father finally tracks down someone selling the same make of teddy bear that was never taken out of the package since the 90s. I don't think I could ever forget how happy and loved I felt at that moment.Bear Bear 2.0 now sleeps with me and my fluffy white cat every night and I don't care if that is lame. #proud #loved

There was one point where I’m just sitting there trying not to shiver and being stoic so I don’t inconvenience him, and he just straight up confesses his hands are only warm because of my armpit, and I’m just like, My arm is only warm because of your hands. About the blacklisting tictoc... I kinda feel like avoiding those things are better for the client too. In the case of my most recent tattoo I was unsure about the placement, we went back and forth a bit, and I ended up on a different body part than the one we originally discussed. BUT I told my artist way before the appointment and asked if there's some freehand stuff we can add to fit the new placement more. She ended up making these AMAZING freehand details (which is something she loves working on), the tattoo looks incredible and fits my body so well! Another time - about the too many changes - I talked to an artist about a design, and we ended up constantly changing it. After like the third I realized that we just don't vibe, and even though I knew I'm gonna loose my deposit (it's only fair since she did make several designs for me) I told her I'm sorry but this is not working. I tried another artist and immediately fell in love with the work she created for me. I'm really happy that I didn't stay with the first artist, and had her design the motif over and over untill we are both fed up about the whole thing.

Aw I LOVE the teddy bear. 🥺 I've had my bear for 20 years. Her name is Sally and she's pink with red hearts and a red ribbon with no nose. Best friends since I was 3. My dad is a surgeon, so when her back seam would come undone from so many hugs, he would fill her up with more cotton and sew her back up. Still sleep with her every night. I got her a friend a couple years ago too! I was in Walmart and I saw a big pink fluffy bear who also had no nose and I HAD to get him.

I still have Bunny, the 1st toy my mother bought for me when she found out she was pregnant. He was my faaaavorite toy and it shows! Old photos of Bunny prove that he was white and velvety soft with a pink ribbon around his neck. Now he is grey-brown, and the ribbon is colorless and crusty! My mother replaced his body multiple times as it would fall apart over time, but she never replaced the ribbon because I'd be devastated any time she tried to. It actually occured to me a couple weeks ago that I should really have Bunny tattooed on me, so I absolutely loved seeing that bear tattoo!

When my artist got to my throat, we were already 5 hours into the session and i was getting tired. I'm also on antipsychotics that can cause involuntary movements, and when she finally did get to my throat i couldn't hold them back anymore. Once they started, i apologized and said i couldn't really control the twitching. She was really understanding thankfully and i did my best to hold them back when she had the machine on me but i must have honestly looked like a crackhead. My artist was a gem though.

I have since gotten it reworked so it at least looks both better and more unique. Also I've gotten mostly original pieces since. One is a harry Potter themed one that many people have, and that's fine by me, but the others are at least drawn up by the artist. My newest was a flash! Got it yesterday! hi Lauren I have a video suggestion! Maybe you can cover things about being tattooed by guest tattoo artists? I tried looking into it and there doesn't seem to be many videos/resources talking about it. (I had mine done a while back and the experience was not that pleasant lol)

@@treacletatts It's a bit of a story, but do let me know if you accept story submissions! Like, the artist at some point begged me to find accommodations in my city (aka. FB sublet and airbnb) and call on his behalf, etc, like it made me feel uncomfy. I think tattoo artists (especially if you have sent a deposit) hold a lot of power, and I reluctantly helped him throughout the way because I didn't want to make them upset and jack my tattoo up lol. And especially international guest tattoo artist will leave after a month or so, so that's also something I would keep in mind in terms of touch ups and such. It's difficult to find reviews of them other than seeing their work through instagram, especially if they're in another language. I will think twice having tattoo by guest artist from now on ;_;😅 But thanks again Lauren, I have always loved your content and your energy

@@WickedJinx It's a long story haha.. I think it's more to do with the tattoo artist himself? He was very unprofessional imo.. I think depends on the studio, sometimes they will invite artists from another country to be in their studio for a set period of time (eg. April-May) and they'll promote that artist and have flashes, etc. And then you can book either through the studio or email the artist, etc. One thing I would note is that because they're only around for a month or so, touch ups would kinda be almost out of the question, unless the studio says otherwise.

The nail tech thing is a huge problem in America and other countries. Beauty therapists and nail tech do “3 day single needle” training in a mlm type scheme then sell it as “scary intimidating tattoo studios and artists” and they are ruining people and doing terrible little tattoos. It’s an epidemic in the industry

When I was 5 (1985) my aunt and uncle that live in Nevada sent my a white rabbit plush by the Applause company. Her name is Caroline, she has a blue dress with tiny pink flowers and matching bow between her ears. She is currently sitting in my china cabinet. Now fast forward 29 yrs and I was searching on Ebay and what do I find? Caroline twin's sister Victoria who was made a year earlier than and in a different colored dress. They are both in my china cabinet. Victoria looks like she just came off a store shelf instead of being made in 1984 so you also get to see what 29 yrs of love and companionship looks like between the two. Like a before and after.

She always reassures me that it's okay and just puts more pressure on the area to keep them under control. My feet/toes tattoos where the hardest in my opinion.

Vanilla Bear has been with me my entire life (yes that video made me want to get him tattooed) I once lost him for a month after I left him at a piano lesson and I refused to ever go back. My aunt even wrote me a book about him and it was my favourite. When I was around 17 I ran into my dad's room crying because I thought I tore him and stuffing was coming out. Nope that white stuff is his fur, the proper colour. I just loved the rest of it a greyish off white over the years. I adore my teddy if you can't tell

I still have all my plushies from my childhood, but one never leaves my side. Her name is Olympic (she has a little Canadian flag jacket) , but as a 2 year old, I couldn't say Olympic so we just call her Bear! She's missing fur, has needed to have extra stuffing put in, sewn up countless times, her fur is all matted and she's way less fluffy and round than she use to be, but I love her so much! I'm soon turning 20, just got my first tattoo (a quote in my high school band directors writing and a treble clef in one of my favourite professors writing on my ribs) a few weeks ago. This bear has been with me through foster care, breakups, bullying, and years of declining mental and physical health, love her so so so much!

I still have Bunny!! He or she (I never decided so it changes) used to be super fluffy but he’s been through the wash a few times so now she’s all matted and skinny. My auntie Susie gave her to me when I was born, she’s white and I once put a giant thick line of red lipstick on its non-existent mouth and was immediately SO upset (childhood trauma) but she’s been washed so many times the red is completely gone now - it took years. He’s been to 4 continents and at least 6 countries. That’s all I got for ya :)
