i love the trend of girls with smaller tats saying “take me off the roster” bc it’s also kinda like solidarity to girls with lots of tats? kind of a fuck you to guys who say that stuff even tho they might not be fully tatted up themselves

One thing I have to say about stencils being approved, but then hating the resulting tattoo is that I consulted with an artist who drew up a design and when I said I wanted the lines bolder she said “they will be thicker than this, this is just my stencil” so I think she used a stencil with finer lines as a guide and then tattooed thicker lines over it. I don’t really agree with this method, but maybe this is where some of these tragedies stem from
@sackme4377
Жыл бұрын
It can result in some shitty linework sometimes, but the stencil isn't ever really as thick as the actual tattoo will be. Say script work for example, you don't lay down the whole script (if its bold betters), it's an outline you fill in. If it's a design, and you have a really thin stencil but intend on doing thicker lines, it depends how big the difference is. It can lead to needing to change parts down the line because the stencil just didn't hold up. If there's parts that are meant to be thin, you're also setting yourself up for failure there, cause it can be easy to just get in the zone too much and end up making thin lines thick on accident. All in all, the stencil should be true to the piece, esp if it's a design they drew, they have the means to just make it thicker.

Ooft, that flower tattoo, that micro one she showed would have been destroyed so fast on a hand but the one he did instead looked like a child’s drawing 😬 I think it’s unethical that he didn’t just turn her down in the first place and tell her to go to an artist that does that style, seems like he was just happy to take her money 🚩

Is it the same with getting ancient Greek Gods tattooed?
Regarding the "didnt they see the stencil??" question, the first professional tattoo i got when I was 18 turned out differently than I expected. It's pretty much American traditional style but there are some parts where the linework overlaps a bit or lines are a little crooked. It's a dagger and the center line showing the bevel of the blade doesn't line up with the point of the blade. Just little details that look more like mistakes rather than intentional stylistic choices. Most of these details were in the stencil. I got this tattoo with my sister as a matching tattoo and she did everything to negotiate the design and everything. She showed me the design and I said I like it but i don't really like how it looks a little sloppy. She told me what do you mean thats just his style and it'll look better as the actual tattoo. I trusted her when she said this since she just dismissed my hesitation because she already had quite a few tattoos at that point. I kind of just thought that he would fix the little mistakes in the final design. Yes, it was my fault for not standing my ground about what I didnt like about the design and it was my fault for not communicating with the artist but I was young and inexperienced and trusted the tattoo professional and my sister who had experience getting tattoos to guide me. Basically, it's not the tattoo artist's fault if they tattoo the stencil exactly and you don't like the design but I can understand how this sort of thing happens especially with people who don't have any/many tattoos or people who haven't been properly educated about what kind of communication should happen between the tattoo artist and the client
5:58 I actually have a tattoo by johnny gloom and she's a lovely person. people copying her bugs me so much, because you can copy the design, but not the craftmanship/skill. the tattoo healed beautifully, and i seriously doubt anyone can copy the actual experience/skill
Wait wasn’t the guy in the first video the same guy who went off about the “quirky frogs” and how people should have more “original” tattoos yet he had a bat man tattoo lmao 😂

Yeah, he had some funny quips but his comment about “you know, the she/they’s” made me instantly think that he’s the type to be a judgy tattoo “purist”, with misogynistic undertones. And maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I’ve found that dudes who make TikToks making fun of tattoo styles tend to fit that archetype. And hey, if he can make a snap judgement based on people’s pronouns, I can judge him based on his attitude 😂
@SkwithOv

@@thedestroyasystem yeah that wasn't just misogynistic it's also transphobic - he went and called them ladies and misgendered anyone using she/they pronouns (some are women/ladies sure but plenty aren't)
The artist of the flower one did not “change the design because it wouldn’t last otherwise” he couldn’t do the style she wanted and tried to BS his way out of admitting he screwed up.
that wasn’t even a “oh i just made it bigger” he added outlining and everything. he straight up changed the tattoo and didn’t even ask her
Yea but stencil doesnt = final tattoo. I have a tattoo was designed and drawn beautifully but then executed horribly. Yea I approved the stencil. But that's only an outline. I told him to err on lighter vs darker and he did the opposite. It's like he couldnt stop tattooing and it ended up dark and overworked. The stencil isn't everything.
@dysonnavarro1269

Very very true the artist shouldve had a complete drawing before the tattoo so that you get an idea of it before hand and not just the outline
The Post Malone Video made me feel really uncomfortable .. Why do people feel the need to touch famous people..
I sketched every single one of my tattoos out for my artist who then translated it to a wonderful design. I would be so posed if someone stole that design. I worked hard on those ideas, and so did my artist.

Stencil approval vs what I got MY FIRST TATTOO at 18 no less..... I went in for something specific and it was basically just a black and grey flower.. artist told me it was too much detail in a too small area so she'd have to make it bigger. I said that was fine. She then prints out this HUGE stencil (to go on my inner wrist, as my first ever tattoo) and I mean HUGE. I wanted like a 2 inch flower and she tried to make it my whole forearm. So I confess I'm not comfortable with the size and it needs to be scaled down. She makes it smaller but still quite large. She starts the tattoo meanwhile my boyfriend is next to me also getting a tattoo. She keeps saying how well I'm sitting and blah blah and at one point she deviates from the stencil ALOT and I froze with fear. All I could think is I'm fucked. She notices my reaction and says not to worry that it's fine. "I meant to do that" "there's nothing to worry about, it's gonna be great" . I get wiped down, she takes a few pictures and no gel or cream or even a solution for sterilization was put on me and I'm just sent off. I CRIED . cried the whole drive home to my boyfriend about how bad it looks . I don't post pictures of it or show it to people. I even hid it for a long time it was so bad. I've cried so many times over how bad it is. About a year later I went to a different shop looking to see if it could be fixed up ( cause it's basically an all black flower and huge so there is no covering it) and the guy told me that the artist should never of put something so bad on a child's arm and that it was one of the worst tattoos he's seen come through. He went over the whole thing trying to improve the shaky lines and patches and smooth things out and put in a lot of white ink to try and make the black blob on my arm resemble a flower.... It's much better now but I haven't looked at that arm in years. It still upsets me so much. It made me so afraid to get another tattoo.

Sometimes its very hard to tell what a tattoo is going to look like from the stencil though
Cover ups confuse me a bit, some tattoo artists are like 'oh yeah we can cover this newly healed tattoo immediately' and others are like 'gotta wait X number of months/years for the ink to settle and heal before coverup'

I know the stencil thing makes sense but if any of these ppl are like me and don’t wanna “bother” a tattoo artist they won’t speak up for themselves if something is wrong
@krisaissosmart
2 жыл бұрын
Anyone that isn't comfortable speaking up should bring a friend along that knows exactly what they are / aren't wanting. When the stencil is ready, that friend can say things like, "didn't you want it a bit smaller than this?" " i thought you were wanting this other font." "I think that's misspelled" etc. That way they have someone else that can bring it up and then all they have to do is agree or disagree. Aside from that, I would definitely stress to people that this will be on your body permanently. If you don't speak up beforehand, it's going to be more hassle to fix later. A good artist won't take offense if you need to adjust the design. They would rather spend 5 minutes tweaking it than see you ranting on social media about how much you hate your tattoo when you never brought up your concerns to them personally. As someone that has social anxiety and generally hates criticizing people, I know it's stressful. But at the same time, if you know it's not what you want, and you don't say anything right then, it kind of becomes your fault. If you tell them it's good to go, knowing it's not, you don't get to blame them later for not giving you what you wanted. Also, you are under no obligation to let that person tattoo you. If you aren't comfortable for any reason, you are perfectly in your right to stop the session and leave. You are paying them for a service. So, if they aren't able to do that service the way you expect, stop them, pay them for whatever services you HAVE received and walk away.
Damn that elbow tattoo is so smart !
That one tattoo is indeed a big freaking centipede. Makes me so glad we are too cold to have ones that size where I live because they are evil.

The fact that the artist from the last lady was like "These are the places where you can get it covered/removed, but don't tell them it came from me" is so sketchy to me. Omg that poor lady! My tattoo artist told me right away she can't do a specific style I wanted for the sleeve (geometry with a lot of thin details), that she can try but can't promise it will be good. So for this one I just went to a different artist. And there were situations with other tattoos where she would tell me like "this will fall out" or "in a three years it will look blurred", so we could fix the sketch before the session or at least so I know the risk.

Omg yay you used the one I tagged you in ! 😊
My friend went to a tattoo shop w/ a inspo pic for a memorial tattoo. The guy legit copied the inspo pic n tattooed it on her the only small modification was my friends signature at the bottom n it was bigger in size. N it was a "reputable" shop in our small town! She loves it n stuff so i havent told her that a good tattoo artiet would have made it more personal n idk different? It gave me overall sketch vibes tht tjr artist would blatantly copy the inspo art work to a TEA. Its a nice looking tattoo (thank god) but the fact that its a 98% copy makes me iffy of getting work done there n i wouldnt reccomend the shop but my friend wants more ink and wants to go there n it makes me slightly annoyed because there are so many shops that are only 1-3 hours away that do AMAZING work but she settled for a mediocre (and questionable) shop which makes me sad because ive seen the artist portafplios and there average to some looking pretty bad (by their seasoned workers too!) Its also a all male run shop w/iffy vibes, esp when we went w/another friend who got piercings there. Luckily i live a few hours from better tattoo shops that are legacies shops in trad tattoos!(my preferred style)
