    Thank you for the thoughtful discussion on women in chess. Nice to hear genuine acknowledgment and appreciation for how much the decision on when to start a family can and does uniquely weigh so heavily on women. I don’t have children myself but I believe we as females inherently do know the reward will ultimately and without question outweigh the “risks”. But even knowing that to be true, it doesn’t make it any easier on this side of it, facing a fast-paced world, terrified of everything you know of the woman you are today and everything you’ve worked so hard for being left behind.

    Agreed, the family responsibilities that women have to deal with makes it very hard to focus and maintain the optimal level of play by dividing attention into their personal life as opposed to giving full focus on their careers. However, i do hope to see more GMs in the next decade!

    With equal prize money, women players will remain 2300+ players forever. From an economic pov, it makes no sense because women's chess brings in FAR less eyeballs, and eyeballs attract sponsors. This is the same debate as the tennis one, but in this case, the women will remain far less rated than the men.

  • @chinmay4331

    @chinmay4331

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes. It makes sense to scrap woman’s only events, and compensate by inviting more women to open events and then have prizes for the top women finishers in the open events rather than have women’s only events with a lot of money. That is if the goal is to get women to compete at the highest level. We must remember that Judit Polgar never played in a single women’s only event.

  • @aniruddhamersey4139

    @@chinmay4331 Great comment. I bet Judit would agree with you wholeheartedly. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that they're getting paid well and that this encourages young girls to pursue chess. I just don't think 1) they deserve equal pay (if you want to give them this much then I think the men should get higher due to basic economics, but then the tournaments will be broke) and 2) this incentive system is wrong, it'll never level the playing field, which is ultimately what should be the aim. I don't think they should scrap women's only events, they should keep it going while inviting the best to compete in the open section and earn the most money there by having women's only prizes.

    Seriously, Christian, as a host, needs to be much less CLUELESS about stuff in general. Just count the amount of times he needs to be corrected by Fabi (Arigaisi’s age, the score between Levon and Dmitry, Judit’s career). He didn’t even know why Pragg wasn’t there for the Rapid. The whole country of India knew that Pragg had to receive the prestigious Arjuna award! It was big news. As the host of a podcast, he has the responsibility of doing more research and be up-to-date. Right now it just feels like he’s letting Fabi correct him if he’s wrong, which happens too often for it to be an enjoyable listening experience. Bottom line, if you’re unsure about the fact you’re gonna say, just don’t say it. Don’t go “wait but isn’t that what happened instead?” and then immediately get corrected…
