Don't know what to make of overdrive When every other reviewer is getting 200+ range overdrive gets only 115+. Are they biased against EV or Tata or just plain incompetent. @Overdrive need to explain this.

Prashanth Kumar well, as I mentioned in the review on multiple occasions, our drive was a combination of highway, twisties (S-mode) and the city (Drive-mode) - and it’s only the latter which maximises range on an EV. We have added images of the starting and ending odometer and battery readings of the onboard computers to give you a fair idea of the range WE got. As I also mentioned, we will need to road test this car to get specific figures for pure city and pure highway driving cycles, like we do for ICE cars. While I do not wish to comment on what other reviews are saying about the range, I would like to draw your attention to the drive itinerary that Tata had planned for us. The drive was 27kms one way - from the Tata Lake House in Pune to the Oxford Golf Course - and for a time period of 4-5 hours including shooting time. All static shots were shot with the powertrain turned off. So I wonder who drove for 200kms on a single charge and where, to validate the onboard figures. We insisted to Tata and did drive longer than the planned itinerary to see how far the battery lasted on this mixed driving cycle of ours before it raised the flags. I hope that explains it for you. After all, my job is to give you the perspective - as a consumer, it’s your money on the line, so choose wisely.

But I am afraid, when you review a car that has the potential to genuinely revolutionise the auto sector in India from perspective of electric cars, what viewers of your videos would expect you to do would be to check exactly from a 100% full charge to an empty battery. Else you are not doing justice to the hundreds of engineers who toil to get a product like this out in the market, nor to the policy makers who hear the wrath from lobbyists for ICU engines and least to the viewers who genuinely look forward to you to exactly state the battery range for this car. Probably, in the hurry to hit KZread first with such videos, these genuine pointers are being overlooked, which is very disappointing. The least that could have been done is to explain these constraints in the video itself and not have us figure this out from the comments. Apologies if this sounded rude, but we come to see your review videos for a reason that you generally are unbiased. So we are going to react this way whenever we find that you are deviating from it :)

@@rohit_paradkar I guess OD should see the video put out by Zig Wheels who specifically tested the Nexon for range with total abuse. Your review here does not explain the kind of ranges you got. In fact, Zigwheels also took the car on the highway, with passengers, load and ran the AC most of the time ....

And OVERDRIVE has done it again, they have managed to get the least range from the NEXON EV reviews. Congratulations!

Strangely every other reviewer managed more than 200 km and showed on trip meter, but OVERDRIVE didn't... something fishy....

Please answer.I like ev. But it is too early to tell battery life. Nissan leaf report huge battery capacity loss after 2 years usage . In very hot climate lithium ion battery simply lose capacity very fast.. what tech Tata is using here to protect battery capacity ???

I'm looking to Book the Tata Nexon ev I have only one question. If I drive at 40 kmh. On highway and city and charge the car at a restaurant. For an hour will i be able to travel 240 km. I have to make this trip once a month. My daily travel is 100 km. Should I book it

This car gives ~180km on highways when driving at speeds of around 80kmph,this review isn’t right for range,because he didn’t show the odo after driving.At 60kmph speed you get ~200km of range.In cities it comes down to your driving the best we have seen is 238km never got the range below 210 on full charge in city. If your daily driving is 100 you can get it.

No piano black does not gets old so easily.

Tata have the potential to spread their charging network in all over the India... Nexon ev is a superb car.

Please do comparison for the newest cars Hyundai Kona EV ,MG ZS EV , TATA Nexon EV

A well detailed review by Rohit and team Overdrive. As Rohit mentioned, range is always a concern for EVs. I don't think an EV can completely eliminate the range anxiety of people. I would still prefer a petrol or diesel. A EV cannot give the peace of mind like an ICE if you wanna go for a road trip.

Anoop Prasad that is true. Even with cars that have larger batteries and claim 400+kms of range, range anxiety is still a concern. The question to answer here is, how many times will you go road tripping with your car. If it’s primarily being bought for city use, an EV with 150-200km range will make sense and MAYBE you could look at a self-driven rental car/SUV for the occasional road trip.

@@rohit_paradkarTrue, Most of us buy a car for city use primarily. But there are people including me, who keeps going long distances often. In my case, I live in Bangalore and keep driving down to my home town Trivandrum. The distance is around 720km which I can cover in 10hrs. Even if the EV gives 400kms range, it is not sufficient. Though you can charge it while taking your break during the journey, how much does it get topped up in such a short time. As you said, for people who never drives out of the city and only use their car for city commutes, an EV does make sense.

The only reviewer who said 115-120 kms range for nexon versus tata’s marketing of 250+ kms. Keep up the great work overdrive and don’t change

As automotive journalists you people are equally responsible as automakers in the transitions towards Electric In educating and convincing or selling Evs with geniune comparision with what people pay for what they get And make People more sensible with their car buying now This seems to be a good job but it needs to be scaled to another level To an extent of viewers choosing this EV over the venue or creta which might be no better than this for the money they pour in and they experience of ownership and the Car driving or chauffeuring experience you get!! What if creta is a segment higher and compares to this on price the measurables for what you get and what is actually required should change for sustainability!!! If someone has to compromise a bit of space and bit of luxury for going EV way they should be convinced by your reviews this is the whole intension of me writing this Overall investment and Cost of ownership i hope will be comparable to the cars of price bracket a notch lower With most of the urban users who use this car in the city most of the time It makes a lot of sence With a fast charger installed at every pass by bay on highways this would make even better sense!! Hope they outsell the undeserving ICE cars and hope Tata have made a reliable product without range depletion! With most of the highways with 120 speed limit it is a way of limiting carsfrom overspeding

@Overdrive..This is a well detailed and thorough review!!! This car is damn good start for the ev revolution. However.. If you do the math considering current EV range vs price ratio...CNG cars make much more sense...They cost just 60-70k over regular petrol and cost recovery duration is 1.5-2yrs..CNG fuel is much greener than petrol and diesel. What are your thoughts on this?

CNG isn't that different in CO2 emissions from petrol, and it's the CO2 that's causing the global warming. Electrics are also more liberating if you have your own house, you don't waste time at the petrol pump since it charges overnight and they offer much better drive experience in the city.

Also everyone is overlooking the maintenance cost of ice cars. Electric are practically zero maintenance. No engine oil, clutch plate, timing belt, filters etc. You have to consider that and not just fuel cost

Sell it in the USA or Europe. At 17000 dollars, it will be a hit.

First time indian manufacturers has a head start against all the Japanese & European manufacturers and the car is aren't bad either.

While I do agree with most commenters here regarding the faulty range (and I have read the OD "explanation", it is just a lame comment) that Overdrive managed to extract from the Nexon EV, even the other reviewers made a basic mistake of driving the car like an IC engine car. I am driving the E2O for last six years. Company claimed range = 100 kms, Everyday driving range = 110+ kms. EVs need to be driven as EVs. Period. Another thing, going on the highways (eg from Pune to Mumbai) is a great regeneration opportunity, opposite to what all the reviewers are saying, that regen is good only for the city. It is better on the highways.

Regen has no real impact on overall range. In fact, highway should give you higher range than city even in EVs. Except - THe speed.. In cities you may do lower speeds and EVs give better range with lower speeds, as the energy needed to cancel the drag is lesser. So, what matters most is the speed - city or highway. In City, regen may improve the range you'd otherwise get in city, but on highway, if you keep a steady speed of 60-80km, and check the range you'd see far higher mileage than City, where you'd never cross averages of 60km normally.

Every one in their review has got range 200+ range but overdrive is still fake

We also save money on engine oil clutches and servicing a lot

Everyone else got more than 150km range. Not sure why you got just about 100Km range.

Worst negative review don't degrade products unnecessarily

100 km really? When everyone else got close to 170-200 how come you got only 100 Usually all ev gets 80-100km per 15kw You are either sold out like 99% of Indian media or you don't know how to drive.

@@SripalTAD whatever you do, 100km is not possible from a 30kw battery it will be minimum 150 unless they did something really wrong or most probably they are biased and showed a wrong figure.

According to this guy the range is around 100km ,I don’t get it?? I was looking to this ev coz of high ground clearance but looks like the range is pretty low

You should watch the review by Zigwheels.. they have done rough driving and performance tests.. still they got close to 200kms

Interestingly, you didn’t mention if it’s a FWD, RWD or AWD. Basically, in the EV terms, you didn’t mention if it has a single motor placed on front Axle or rear axle, or dual motors one placed on each axle.

Overdrive u again hated tata cars... But we as a TATA CAR owner just love them...

EV's simply too short legged. A car should have long legs ideally and ICE rules. Until batteries can catch up to hydrocarbons on energy density , no point n going for EV. May be Hybrids but they are expensive.

This guy is always... always being nasty towards TATA, no matter what the car is, no matter how much progress our homegrown brands do. He keeps on pulling them down. I am disappointed in Overdrive for the very biased reviews. This guy probably was fired by TATA motors at some point

Yep happens with every Tata car review done by Overdrive. Just watch their Hexa review 3 years back. These guys popping out the tweeters of the cars and complaining of scratches on plastic cladding. With 30,000 Hexas sold haven't read or heard from owners about the issues which Overdrive managed to find in the first drive review.

@@srinivascnu6977 test drive a swift in Europe... 5 star rating on EuroNCAP, not the GlobalNCAP which Tata passed. Suzuki's ( and all Japanese vehicles) are damn reliable. You can still see 30+ years old M800's and Gypsy's on the road. You are lucky if your TATA vehicle survives for 10 years.
