    The noise suppressor is magic. We have tried several devices for living room karaoke and they all feed back except the Mixcast4. Even the Rode Podcaster Pro II gave us feedback and the gate only helped until we started singing then the feedback was there. The Tascam doesn't feed back at all even when the gate is open and getting loud vocals and even with studio condenser microphones. That noise suppressor is the secret sauce for Tascam it reminds me of the technology in the Zoom video conference software companies use for meetings.

    Try this. On the USB channel enable noise suppression and even some processing and try listening to music with headphones from you Mixcast 4 played from your computer over the USB input of course. It sounds like garbage and isn't fit for any type of enjoyable listening. I found this out and even opened a trouble ticket with Tascam/Teac for it. On my own I found out that having these settings on really muddles and clips audio being played over the channel so it seems to process it in both directions. I turned processing and noise suppression off on the USB channel and my Amazon Music sounded very very good after that and was worthy of jamming. Also, they need to fix the auto power off option as it does not work. Try yours and let us know. I opened a ticket about it and this was their response and I must say their support and quick replies are outstanding: "Our engineering department has sent the following information... The Mixcast 4 senses the presence of signal before the fader. Even if the fader is lowered, AUTO POWER OFF will not work if there is an input signal detected. Try removing any audio sources and check the function again. Thank you for your interest in TASCAM products." So what I'm doing now is again to lower all the sliders and mute all inputs and wait 30 minutes. If this still does not work, I'm going to unplug all mics and even the USB port to then deduce if it's one of these channels introducing an input signal keeping this thing awake.

    First, to me it is TOTALLY obvious that there is a second page of settings. The fact that there is so much blank space around the left and right pointing icons HELPS people notice them! Second, the rest of this video is really helpful about tweaking settings. You are VERY good at this; thank you for doing these videos for us.

    Great tip about the safe and "effects bypass" option to the recording on the SD card. Please address the issue of the USB Delay, does it work properly on your device? On min, it's only doubling my voice according to the settings in ms, just like the delay effect on the guitar pedals...

    Nice video. I wish there was a separate headphone adjustment for the default bleep sound effect. I just called support but… hopefully you can share a solution

  • @PodcastMeister

    @PodcastMeister

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi, I have just tried it, the bleep effect has neither any configuration option in the Tascam Podcast Editor, nor can its volume level adjusted with the sound pad channels fader. (The reference manual actually states that "The beep sound output is at a fixed volume. It is not affected by the pad channel fader". You can however adjust the individual headphone volumes with their respective knobs and that will lower the volume of the beep for that participant (although adjusting i.e. all 4 at once when you want to bleep out something and then adjusting them back would be a challenge). I don't see an option for adjusting its volume for the remote guests either.

    How do you connect the miscast 4 to a DAW?

  • @PodcastMeister

    @PodcastMeister

    2 жыл бұрын

    I guess you are looking for how to record multitrack via usb into the DAW, right? (as connecting the Mixcast 4 to a DAW is just simply plugging the usb-c cable of the Mixcast 4 into your computer and selecting it as the input for your DAW of choice (Garageband, Logic, Reaper, Studio One, etc.) On the multitrack usb recording I have a video in the pipeline, watch the channel! ;)

    Can you talk about Ducking? We have a serious problem here. When I activate Ducking I have no way to choose which channels it will have an effect on, so if I'm using USB, Bluetooth or TRRS with guests, when I use the microphone their voice will be muted. Is there a way to solve this?

  • @PodcastMeister

    Hi, ducking always prioritizes Mic1, so all other channels will be lowered when Mic1 has a signal. I did not see any way to customize channel priority - to my knowledge it‘s always Mic1 vs all other channels. While this may very well be a problem (like in your case unfortunately), it is, as the IT colleagues sometimes say, not a bug, but a feature.

    Hey, maybe you could help me out. I am comparing my rodecaster pro to the mixcast with 4x rode podmic and shure SRH440 headphones. I hear a very annoying noise (seems to be from the system itself as it reacts to using the screen). On my rodecaster it is nearly silent but the tascam is very noisy. Do you have the same issue?

  • @PodcastMeister

    @PodcastMeister

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi, sorry to hear that. No, I have never experienced any particular noise in the headphones so far. Really weird that it reacts to touching the screen. Have you tried to update the firmware? Maybe it solves it as it is supposed to iron out initial sharp edges.

    @@PodcastMeister that will indeed be the next thing I try. I am a bit disappointed by the sound. I now own 3 rodecasters and 1 mixcast. (I kind of followed your reviews which are great). I will check whether the noise is also present in the Wav file. If so then I will return the item.

    I just updated to firmware 1.10 and still the hiss is present. The hiss is present and not affect by channel 1 volume at 0, all faders 0 , no mics connected, no headphones (except TRS) connected. I even tried the rodecasder DC adapter, other mics and other headphones. pushing my finger on the toughtscreen though does affect the hiss (it makes it worse) for a few seconds. Hi, can you share some more details (you hear the distortion in your headphones or speakers? Have you connected your mic directly to the mixcast4 or through an external voice processor or a signal booster? Are you using condenser or dynamic mic?) I‘d nonetheless suggest checking a few things right away: - plug your mics to another interface to see if you get the same distortion - then it‘s likely a problem with your cables - check (potentially lower) the gain level on the channels that are used - check (potentially lower) the volume level of the outputs

    Hi, thank you for your comment. I am now in the process of testing a new microphone and I also noticed - and have a suspicion that either due to the noise suppressor or the de-esser (or in worst case the device itself) - that it produces a weird effect in the ~130 and ~420Hz frequency area. I will publish the results of the test vs other interfaces and with firmware version 1.2 on this channel once testing is completed. Can you share more insights so that I can potentially have a deeper dive too?
