@@Justforthefifteen Actually, that’s not the case. At least not art that is produced for the public. Censorship has been the rule in western civilization for centuries. The artist has usually felt constrained to work according to the taste of his patron and not to transgress against the state censor or the church. This has been especially true for writers but also for painters, film makers, musicians, etc.. Everywhere we see the tension between the artist and the Powers That Be. @@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep Agreed 125% Hateful Eight was such an embarrassingly bad and empty movie. I almost can't understand how it's even possible to make such a bad film. Michael Madsen sat in corner the whole film and looked like a grumpy old lady. Tim Roth sat in another corner and had like one line in the whole film, with a weird fake accent, like "my coffee is hot" or some shit. Then Samuel L. Jackson held a long boring speech about his big black dick. Then Channing Tatum jumped up from under the floor and people shot at each other or something. Then all that unnecessary Tarantino-esque over the top violence in the end finale. Like, haven't we seen this lame ass shit like 10 times before already? I think Tarantino actually tried to make some kind of Dogville light stage film but with his normal dialogue, and the end result is just an unmitigated catastrophe of a train wreck of a film. The actual Dogville is an actual good film by Lars von Trier, but the problem is Tarantino is not a mature writer. He can't write sensible multi-layered stuff. He can just write catchy bubble gum popcorn shit stuff. His only film with a mature dimension to it, Jackie Brown, was based on a book by Elmore Leonard.

I don't know about you but i don't think movies need to be considered 'offensive' to be entertaining, or need to have things that could be considered to be offensive in them to be entertaining (although 'offensive movies' can and are mostly entertaining). But hey, if you do only find entertainment from 'offensive' movies you can definetly find those movies (even nowadays), u just gotta go outside the mainstream. Depending upon what people define 'offensive' as nowadays u can find lots of amazing movies that are 'offensive'. I mean shit, best movie of the year so far 'the green knight' i'm sure people can call offensive by reading a misogynistic interpretation into it. Just go watch any Lars von Trier movie and u find an offensive masterpiece. Cinema hasn't been killed by cancle culture at all. Maybe mainstream cinema, but even some of the mainstream stuff has some amazing films in them that, yes, aren't offensive, but nonetheless amazing movies.

If you have empathy, talent, and skill you can do anything but its like any caustic material if you just whip it around don't be surprised at the reaction. This is why no one is canceling RDJ for playing an Australian guy playing a black guy. Its why Bill Burr all kinds of shit. You just have to set it up well, you have to build trust with the audience, and make the landing. If you can't do that then you probably shouldn't do that kind of material.

I think what Tarantino brought was a realism to the violence that didn't really exist before. To say that the 1980s didn't have violent movies is to ignore franchises like Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween... Tarantino wasn't afraid to use the gore factor that was so popularized in the 80s, but he used it in far more realistic situations and not just sensationalized gore.

as much as I like QT movies, in this clip he's taking credit for something he did not do. The change that happened in the 90s filmmaking was ignited by the massive success of Scorsese's Goodfellas which came out in 1990. QT managed to get Reservoir Dogs funded thanks to it. Seeing the flicker of confusion in a bully's eyes and watching them realise their audience is waiting for them to make their next move and they have to go to the next level is worth it. Mostly they just scream at you and call you names lol.

The best is when it's someone you know personally who often falls into that bully dynamic because they're "obviously right" and so ANY disagreement is taken as a personal insult or attack, even though they're the ones that were literally just insulting you for your point of view, which you don't even assert to be correct or the only view. They'll look at you almost like you betrayed them, even though THEY'RE the one bullying lol. The look almost screams "Bu- but you're supposed to let me win! What are you doing?!". Then comes the inevitable tantrum followed by trying to make you feel like the asshole for simply standing up for yourself while calmly disagreeing or simply saying "no" when asked to comply with something you find ludicrous.

The issue here is what he said at 0:56. He said there is more of a "blacklist" and that in the 80's they were "doing it to themselves" meaning that they were censoring their own films and art because of their own personal ideals. Which is fine, that is still art. Then he goes on to say "now they are doing it to you" and that's a key fundamental difference between now and the 80's and why this is so critical to us as a society. That is not art, that is propaganda. Because they are making artists change their art to suit their message and narrative that is a textbook example of propaganda. It has been used by dictators for hundreds of years, to kill millions of people.

Easy solution - if you don't want a studio to dictate what you do in your movie, don't use the studio. Release independently. You can't force a studio to change their ideals and face backlash - it makes perfect sense if they don't want to do it if consumers are going to give them a hard time and thrash the movie, the studio, the execs, which happens. They need to release films the public will accept.

My mother, a struggling animator, was forced to work on Lyle, Lyle Crocodile to make ends meet for me and my siblings. She'd walk through the door with dried tears and tired, red eyes from when she'd sit in the drive way and cry. I asked her one time why she was crying-a contemplative pause settled on a her face. A forlorn stare made its way across the living room and onto a picture on our mantle of our father, cheerily looking back at us. "They're just crocodile tears" she'd say.

@@rhoynedev Its not so easy because I guess hollywood is one of the only places you can really make films because you need these huge ass sets, and crap like that. It's really hollywood execs that are forcing their ideals on the artists, writers, and directors, a lot of these people have no artistic influence they just provide money and land to make the film, you basically have to go through them because there is no one else to go through. You can't just make a 50 million dollar film independently and you can't make everyone else happy. The ideals of the studios that you speak of are destroying the integrity of the films that they make and are making them basic, boring and bias. Soon they will be no less that political propoganda mix with company advertisements for iphones or (whatever the current thing is) instead of a movie. The whole film is just an AD and a way to manipulate your political opinion. It's easy to say, "oh if you don't like it just go independent." It doesn't work like that they put you on the contract to make the film then they want you to change it based on their political opinions.

I think it's a pretty gross statement. In the 80's, it was rooted in spreading AIDS, which had no cure and no research funding to find one. Nowadays, it's about sex without consent, the key word being consent. Respect your sexual interests. Learn to accept no. And the era of abusing women or guys or whoever is over. You'll be canceled by others - and that's what Quinton is talking about.

I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them.” Obviously that can't apply to everyone, we can't all be rich and successful, but it does apply to people like Tarentino.

We had a litany of really good movies in the 90’s first directed by him but then done by many writers and directors who you can tell followed the level of what is considered as allowed that had been set by him and his movies. Unfortunately we seem to be overrun by bad movies today. We still have Quentin as well as Christopher Nolan, Dennis Velleneuve doing really good films but we’re saturated by revamped shit, remakes and superhero movies that are all just the most dismal excrement ever to have graced the screen.

I stopped going to concerts long ago and movies when Rey from star wars #? seemingly became an overnight Jedi.
