I think it's rare to see compassion displayed like this because it's deemed unprofessional for a judge to cry at the bench. To say it's rare to see a compassionate judge is naive and unfair. It's rare for crimes like this not to affect all the professionals involved and many suffer greatly in silence.

  • @sangellaferro

@@melissab4710 MOST people are brought up to believe that expressing sadness is weak, wrong, etc. We all laugh when something's funny ... why don't we (as easily) respond to our pain? It's truly a blight on our society. Crying is a natural physiological response. Tears of pain contain toxins; tears of happiness & joy do not!

But also for a man that threw his life away. Karma always has a way of coming full circle. Noreen keep in mind when you take the stand. Your ask to speak the whole truth so help you God. So for the judge to quote the Bible is perfect. Ask yourself where the root of your human morals and values stem from. I’ll help you. God and that little book called the Bible

@Lynette Scribner The judge is bound by "legal sentencing guidelines" passed by our city council, mayor figure, all the way up the National level...our Congress. Vote please. There is only so much, even a good judge like this guy, can do. Bound by the law! So if we want that to change (like me) then we need to vote for people with those kinds of values. People that Share your values! And people that share different or similar value--they need to vote in that person for them.

Now I don’t cry myself when hearing of other’s suffering, that doesn’t mean I don’t feel their agony and the horror of the situation, I just don’t react physically because…that’s not how my body works, I suppose. But crying when presented with the intense suffering of other people is a common human characteristic, and one that shows empathy. Empathy is arguably the most important attribute for a judge to have, has how can you effectively asses how a person should be sentenced if you cannot understand the suffering caused and, simultaneously, how the defendant felt/is feeling. Crying for many people is just a result of emotion, and cannot be controlled. It’s not an intentional thing, it’s just a normal response when hearing and feeling the agony of someone else.

He had to have both legs amputated at age 40, and a man who does not have his legs, just can't be a normal person. It was a terrible situation. He died at age 47 from massive blood clots. The blood clots is why he lost is legs to begin with. But I miss having a father having his support, and someone I could call and ask his opinion and advise on something. I am right there with you. Take care Mamii

That's because God should have no say in a court of law. To quote Judge Judy Sheindlin, who once said this in her response to a defendant: "I don't care how the Word of God applies here. This is a courtroom, not a church, so don't preach to me." Our freedom of religion depends entirely on the separation between religion and the law, and a seperation of religion and politics. If you don't want to, say, be forced to live your life underneith a black polyester 3-layer Niqab, I suggest not applauding everytime a judge or politician brings up God.

For a judge who represents the law to quote a fictional book called the Bible should result in his immediate removal and lifetime ban of ever working in the justice system. It is a clear and willful violation of the separation of church and state. The reason you separate church and state is so your government isn’t based on a fairy tale. Figures this happened in Texas. The state that brought us Enron, Halliburton, Lifted trucks, Trumptards and the Bush family. It’s time Texas was removed from the union. I say give it back to Mexico.

He was not the murderer or involved with the murder itself. He was charged with and convicted on 4 counts related to helping the murderer cover up the crime afterwards. That's why the judge made sure to the sentence on each count was consecutive, so he would still stay in prison for a long time.

@@MrCJ-qz9dl I respect all religions, but strongly believe in the separation of church and state. Many Christian Americans don't understand why religion shouldn't be used to govern any decisions for our country or in a court of law because of how Christianity is so deeply rooted into our history as a country. The major reason why people immigrated to America in the beginning was for religious freedom, yet those who are not Christian seem to have less of a say in what goes on here, especially if religion is brought into play. The purpose of my response is to say I deeply admire you for believing in something other than the norm, while also holding true to the beliefs that make you feel satisfied. Not many other Christians think like you so for this, you have my utmost respect.
