Can TANK 300 really compete against the SAME SIZE opponents such as Toyota Land Cruiser 200, Toyota Prado 120, and THREE different LADA Niva 4x4 models?
In this translated "remix" and adaptation of the original video by @VetalsonS into English I'll try and showcase the best elements of the original footage with the colourful insights into what the Russian off-roaders thought of GWM Tank 300 performance in some of the worst off-road terrain one could ever imagine to put their vehicles through!

    I love my Tank 300, it's pretty incredible for price - front and back diffs, 360 degree cams, body on frame, properly built... Great off roader. Off roading in China is pretty wild now and there's a growing aftermarket for bumpers, lifts, rocksliders etc... But I really want it to take off in the Aus/SA market to get some international vendors attention.

    @@ValueCarsAU yeah, the phev stuff seems nonsense. They built an incredibly affordable completely specced out off roader at this price point domestically and if they just repeated that in international markets I could see it cutting the legs out from under the big players. My conqueror trim was 200k rmb, but I hear they are putting the v6 from the 500 in an upcoming model... As much as I like that idea, I'm not sure my pocket could handle the fuel economy.

We follow a couple of people we found from those groups who post their trips and then try go find their routes, but given the risks of posting GPS data we can't post routes. There is also a local off road group (more jeep owners than tanks), we found his garage/shop went and chatted and got his wechat followed him, he arranges trips in anhui and further west but it's difficult because the xinjiang trips go to places out of bounds to waiguoren. Hi.. the Lada Niva was actually sold in Australia some years ago. If i remember correctly, it won a lot of competitions as small 4x4 of the year. I wanna say late 1980s going into the 90s.. not exactly sure of the timeline.

  • @ValueCarsAU

    @ValueCarsAU

    10 ай бұрын

    Yeah someone else mentioned it to me, interesting... Niva is very popular in Russia, my dad had one, now there's a lot of competition and locally made cars are actually not that competitive pricing-wise, trying to stick to the higher price points, where they immediately lose to the competitors (including China-made ones) on overall quality and features.

  • @jonlowing7907

    I owned a Lada Niva in the mid 1980s when the brand had a brief presence here in Australia. It had been extensively upgraded by the importer to provide an exhibition example for the brand. It was fitted with electric windows and sunroof, Stratos sports seats front and rear, full carpeting, sports steering wheel, air conditioning and aluminium bull bar. It had the stock 1.5L Fiat-based petrol engine. Actually, much of the mechanicals and interior fittings were heavily influenced by Fiat, due to some sort of trade agreement between the Soviets and the Fiat company, I believe. I may be mistaken but I believe Ladas were manufactured in a factory established by Fiat in the USSR.

    @@ValueCarsAU Yes, especially considering the price and its off-road capabilities. T300 is also a price killer, but the price outside China is not cheap (usually 2 to 2.5 times the price in China). Niva also has parallel imports in China, and it is 1.5 times the price in Russia. There are some off-road clubs that have Niva, but it's rare on the road.

    I copy and past a article. Lada Russian cars imported into Australia but they did not sell well. In 1988 approximately 6,000 Lada Samara's were modified by Peter Brock's Special Vehicles operation who had previously made high performance Holden Commodore's. The cars would be known as the Lada Samara Sedan Brock Delux and included a few subtle suspension tweaks to improve the cars low speed ride devised by Brock himself and cost about A$3,000 more than the base model Samara.[5] While initial sales were promising, reports of poor quality and reliability issues soon began to take their toll and by 1996 sales had dwindled to under 100 units. It is believed that Ladas had not been imported into Australia since 1994, but it took two years to sell the remaining stock; 1996 was the last year Lada sold vehicles on the Australian market.

    I have a 1991 Niva, here in Australia, and about to get another one, (1997) and convert it to electric

    Sounds like an interesting but quite an ambitious project that mainly raises one question - WHY convert a Lada Niva?

    @@ValueCarsAU , simply, Why not? Love the Niva's and most people laugh at the lack of power from the 1.6L motor's, so why not? also means it's a little more reliable as a daily driver

    I truly enjoyed watching the performance of the TANK 300 and how it drives in the mud. What's wrong with the Chinese brand. If the price is right and can perform like that I would buy it.

    Only depreciation aka how it's perceived by the local market as a 2nd hand product (if you were to resell it). Nothing else.

    No idea what you're asking (or suggesting) here. Can't google for the price in USD in the dealerships where you are? Tank 300 is a solid vehicle. With ANY car - "only time will tell" - these days, as even established and expensive brands are taking "shortcuts".
