Tangmere Slips out of Carlisle 10 02 24
Ғылым және технология
Tangmere arrived in Carlisle late, instead of the stock shunt moves the whole train was taken to the yard, meanwhile a bit of diesel loco action took place much to the delight of one person. Tangmere returned to the station and made a slippery departure towards the Settle Carlisle line.

Thank you john. I wonder if they were all like that or some painted green. The thing I had not realised before was that they all slid. I thought the one near the boiler was fixed. Always something new to learn on the railway.

Glad they did not re build or scrap them all This is a fine example of how they should look.
Brilliant video. Nice you got to step back to film the steam coming in not a huge crowed. Epic start from the 37. Good they still stable locos round back of the station. Remember when i was a kid some days you might get 15 round the back of the station 3 or 4 stabled south of the station next to the main then maybe a few at Upperby, many at Kingmoor TMD, You might of even got a couple stabled at London Road Sidings just down the gradient of the Newcastle and Leeds line south of the station. The odd freight or light used to come in one of the centre roads shut down and sit an hour or so waiting for a driver. That might still happen.

Thanks axl. It was not so crowded as other days I have been. We waited ages for the 37 to start. It had failed to start once and the fitter was doing something in the engine room Soon the charter was due back in so we were lucky to get that then a quick walk to the other end and made it just in time. Sometimes they still stable a unit in the middle roads usually a TPE. the layout has not changed in years and I also remember when lots of locos were in that back lines. I have a photo of a 26 being re railed in there.

@@axldelticwalton1238No idea what the problem was The fitter was looking in some cubical so maybe a contactor fault. That line is still there all rusty. I heard there was a derailment and it never re opened. It does make the station more interesting with the freights going through. they rarely use another bit of track round the South end but turned a steam loco that way last year instead of the curve to the S&C normally used

"The video may contain images sound and text not suitable for kids" (copied from blurb above). I used to see Spam cans when I was a kid. I had no idea they might be seen as unsuitable!
@cedarcam

KZread were fined a huge amount for allowing content not suitable for kids to be shown to them, this was either in the video or the advertisements youtube put on. Instead of sorting the problem they chose to put the responsibility onto the uploader of the video and warned them they could be fined for allowing kids to see unsuitable content. As I have no control over what adverts kids see I now put the blurb in the description. No worries there is nothing about spam cans that is unsuitable for kids. All my videos are made for anyone to view. Thanks for questioning the reason for the blurb.

To say they are a big locomotive they do slip often yes. This time the safety valves were not lifting every few minutes Bulleid boilers are good at generating steam.

That opening “train”, two locos and one freight car? Just curious. I’m here for the WC!

They were hauling a nuclear fuel flask, two locomotives are used on these in case one fails, they used to run with one on either end of the wagon to act as a barrier vehicle but recently that was changed to double heading.
@Mounhas

@@cedarcam Thank you. Because I imagine Sellafield is nearby I thought it was a nuclear flask, I just thought they’d been a van or two between the loco & the flask, I’m probably thinking of loco pulled fuel trains, the only “freight” seen in my parts!

Sorry, but a diesel stuck on the back ruins the whole show. For me, it always gives the impression that the steam locomotive hasn't got the guts now, or, they are expecting it to be unreliable. If extra push is needed, use a tank loco !
@cedarcam
4 ай бұрын
The box is on the back to provide power to the coaches for air con and heating, they do give a bit of a push when needed on steep gradients just like in the days of steam when it was done regularly, If the steam loco fails they have not pushed the train with the diesel but brought another to couple on the front, that has happened when Flying Scotsman failed last year. It would be great if a tank loco could be used but the frozen passengers may not be happy

@@robertcharlessceats3647 It does take the edge off yes and I would love to see steam used for banking, I never saw that in real so only seen it in videos. The colour of this box did not help either A green one would at least have the right colour for a late 60's train. With summer days and hopefully the MK1 stock back on the main we may see a few trains just steam hauled, like some were other years. I saw one going up Shap a couple of years ago which made a fine sight and was making good speed.
