The honesty to show the RAW file is highly apreacited since we are used to see those amazing shots after the editions. This, may discourage the begginers or even the "not that pro" photographers. Thank you for show how it is.

Some lovely shots there Duade. I bought the Tamron 150-600 G02 a couple of years ago for my Somy A77ii. I've now got myself a Sony A7iii and kept my fingers crossed that it would work OK on it via the Sony A to E mount adapter; I needn't have, the results are superb. It's a heavy beast to use hand held but probably the best value for money piece of glass I've ever bought.

Duade, your videos are just fantastic. You've found a way to make it seem like a friend is talking with me about photography and gear and not a cold salesman at a store. Yours is the first channel I've ever become a member on because I get so much out of it. I like the birds in the mist the best! I have been trying working with silhouettes recently, especially since often times I don't have "interesting" subjects but have an interesting environment instead. Apart from that, I've decided to stick with my decision to buy the Canon EF 400mm f/5.6 for my crop sensor body over a zoom like this. Your video on that lens made a great impression on me and made me feel like it's the best for where I'm at in bird photography.

I really appreciate how you explain how to set-up on the ground with the light and how you show the RAW file and the crop and final product. Interesting timing. I just recently purchased a Tamron 150-600mm G2 and took it out for the first time two days ago. I bought the lens along with my Canon EOS 90D and was quite pleased with the results when I went out Sunday afternoon (4/18/21). I started saving first, and took months researching the camera and lens I wanted. I settled on the 90D fairly quickly -- the R5 and R6 are absolutely stunning cameras, but they were quite a ways out of my price range. It took longer to settle on a lens -- I wanted something versatile and economical, so a zoom seemed likely, and I wanted power. I read tons of reviews by professional photographers, watched scores of video reviews on both Tamron's 150-600 and Sigma's. I eventually settled on Tamron's. I am not used to the weight yet -- together, camera and lens weigh about 2.65 kilos. But I use a tripod regularly and will adjust. By the way, I love the bokeh I get from this lens. I did have some difficulty with sharpness on this lens -- as soon as I noticed it while processing my photos, I kicked myself for not remembering your advice in your last video about stopping down to f8 or f9 -- I won't forget next time. Thank you, as always, for posting your videos. Your photography is incredible, and you relate what you know very understandably to your viewers.

I purchased this lens last month with an EF-RF converter, and I pair it with my EOS R. What I've found, through watching several of your videos, is that there's some key points to getting sharp photos -- firstly, as you mentioned, f/9-f12 aperture is definitely the sharpest zone. Secondly, another point you drove home in a previous video: you need to be close to your subject. I have been snapping photos of birds in my back yard which is 85ft/26m long and that's asking a lot at 600mm for smaller birds like sparrows, because once you're done cropping to a composed image, you haven't much megapixels left of detail. I have a few pictures of American Robins and Chipping Sparrows where I was lucky enough to be very close to them and the images are gorgeous, to me at least. I wouldn't have gotten into bird photography without your videos, so thank you for all your hard work.

Great stuff again. I use a Sigma 150-600 zoom on my Z6ii and it works great even though it’s through an FTZ adapter. One tip I heard/read somewhere and which seems valid from my experience (though I haven’t tested it directly) is not to go right to the full extremes of the zoom, but to dial back a bit(I.e. not at 150 or 600 but 160 or 590) as it provides better sharpness with Zoom lenses.

Those are some great shots and lovely footage!! I found for autofocus accuracy, I changed it to center point only with the Tamron. Mine kept losing the subject like crazy. It would hunt around for a solid minute or two and then just give up. Switching to center point only improved accuracy a lot. I'm still rocking a 50D, though. Seems to be more accurate on newer cameras lol.

Beautiful location Duade. You're quite fortunate to be able to get down practically level with the water, and in two directions to boot! I've not had such luck over here in Ontario yet. We're still in lockdown in Toronto with extended "Stay at Home' orders until 20th May. I've considered that very lens but also pondering the Canon EF 100-400 Mk II. Meanwhile my mind is playing around with the idea of moving to the mirrorless system for both body & lens so we'll see what happens when this pandemic furor dies down. Most definitely interested in seeing more location adventures!

I´m using the same lens on my Z6 and D500 and it performs stellar. Usually I shoot at f/8 for that extra sharpness and it doesn´t let me down. The only drawback I can find is the buttons on the side that gets bumped when I´m carrying the camera, so that all of a sudden I´m out of AF or has got the VR turned off. I solved it by putting one of them rubber bracelets over or next to the buttons. Easily one of the best lenses for the money I´ve got.

Duane, I can’t tell you how much I look forward to your videos! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. My question is on electronic vs manual shutter. I recently bought the R5 which is silent in electronic shutter. Not really sure I love that all the time, as you can sure take a lot of photos quickly. I noticed your R6 has sound when shooting. Is this manual shutter, or just how the R6 works? If I use MS will I “burn out” the shutter due to taking so many FPS over the course of time?

  • @Duade

    @Duade

    3 жыл бұрын

thank you for your lovely feedback. I have the same issue you mentioned when shooting in electronic mode and its unfortunate you cannot lower the FPS and have some sort of audible feedback, I can only assume this will be a feature of future cameras. As a result I generally always shoot in mechanical shutter mode as 12fps is more than enough for me. I believe the R5 shutter is good for 500,000 actuations which is a lot and you would be unlikely to wear out the shutter. Good luck with your camera. Cheers, Duade

Hi Duade, and many thanks for this new video. Congratulations for the images! I prefer the backlighted Grey Teal image and the Grebes photos showed at 10:24. Speaking about cheap lenses to use in bundle with Eos R6 or R5, in another video you tested the Canon 400 5.6 L, and answered me that the performance (image quality, autofocus) was very good even with a 1.4X. Which lens among the 400 5.6 L (with or without the 1.4x) and the Tamron 150-600 would you prefer on the end? I know that 400 5.6 is limited at about 7 fps in mechanical shutter, but if autofocus and image quality are better, I suspect this could be the best choice anyway. Many thanks. Cheers, Fabrizio

In the past I had a fair number of problems with the Tamron 150-600 on my Nikon DSLRs. Sometimes the lens would just stop responding and I'd have to turn the camera off and back on. This happened with both the first model and the G2. I also felt that the lens lacked sharpness out around 600mm. Ultimately I went with the Nikon 200-500 and have been much happier. Don't get me wrong, slow moving/perched subjects within 30 feet will enable you to capture pro quality photos, even wide open at 6.3. At mid to long distance combined with action and low light you have to be skilled and very very lucky. Kirk, great question, yes still using the R6 and enjoying it. The animal Eye AF is far from perfect and really needs an isolated bird with a distinct eye to work. I often have to place the focus point on the bird traditional style and then engage the Eye AF. Once it locks on it is very good but I suspect the next generation will be even better. I too am waiting for the R7 as I would prefer say a 30mp sensor on an APSC that can go to ISO6400 without issue, I think that would be a great birding camera. Sorry I can't be more definitive. I used G2 with my 7D mk ii on 2016-17. After using it almost a year I decided to keep my 400mm f5.6 and sold it. In this price it's definitely a great lens. Only thing it was challenging was BIF. The af accuracy for BIF is really poor. I bought a tap-in-consol to micro adjust it, it increased the accuracy, but again far behind my 400mm. Let me know when you try this in BIF and more low light and bushy environment. Thats where the lens wasn't good for me. I was expecting it'll do better with the new mirrorless af system. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford a canon lens such as the 100-400mm II but I wanted to get started. I might upgrade later. Two questions for you though, I see you shot at very high ISO (although I know the R6 performances are great in that respect) and bumping the shutter speed up even with your gimbal. First, did you leave the VC on? Second, do you recommend closing the aperture and increasing the SS even on an older body like the 77D? I tend to find it difficult to like a picture when the ISO is above 800 in general

I rented this lens on a trip last Summer with intent on not purchasing it after I got back. I bought one the same day I returned it and haven't looked back.

I still use the 1st version of the Tamron, as long as you use f8 or smaller aperture, you will get sharp image.

I have had this lens for quite a while. Used it on my Canon 6D. Now using it with the R6 and the focusing system gives me fits at times, as you showed in the video.

Same here, using the Tamron on my 6D worked well after setting up with Tap-in Console. Nice images, but AF hit and miss. Now using on my R6. Not going well as far as AF servo. Too many missed shots while shooting birds. Ordered the new Canon 100-500 RF lens. Can’t wait til it gets here. Hopefully it will perform much better.

Awesome captures...if possible can you make one video with 90D and Tamron 150-600 mm VC USD G2? Want to know how will it perform with 90D?

Harshad, I suspect it would work well, I don't have access to a 90D to test unfortunately. Cheers, Duade

Very enjoyable video again Duade! That ending was hilarious!😅 I can even hear the cheers of 3rd party users, "Finally, something for us!" Jokes apart, I myself use the older version of this lens, pairing with Nikon D7200, both borrowed (even though I'm a beginner, I also get asked by others that if it is any good). I'd also like to share my experience, if it helps anyone. This lens (or maybe the G2) is good, but it depends on several factors, such as good light, distance from the subject etc. The image quality I usually get is quite similar to those you showed here, which is a bit shocking, as It's the G2, paired with a pro FF body and with a very good support. I always shoot handheld (which is not right) and only time the lens gets support when I'm lying on the ground. I also face similar problems with autofocus, particularly in low light, backlight situations, BIF and activists that are more interesting to photograph. The AF haunts a lot and often miss shots that would have been fantastic if focused properly. Even when focus locked, I often get softer image. The VC is average and you’ll be hard pressed to distinguish when It's on and when off. The larger zone area AF is so unusable that I often end up using single point AF, even in action shots. I guess these problems are less impactful on G2, although seems like It's still there. But when the situation cooperates with good lights and closer subjects, AF works well and the images come out with good sharpness, just like those black Swan and Grebe photos You got (around 10 minutes). I've also used the 300mm f4 (with 1.4 TC) and 200-500 of Nikon, although not as much as I used the Tamron, but I can assure you that both are noticeably more consistent and produce better results than the Tamron. That's why I'm saving for a Canon telephoto for my own old Canon body.

Thanks Arghyadip for sharing your experience, I am sure it will help those looking at this lens. From my first session I do agree about the AF not being quite as snappy and accurate as the Canon lenses. I plan to use it a bit more to get a good feel for it. Cheers, Duade

Hi Duade. Big fan of your videos. I'm a R5 shooter and I'm stuck making the decision between the sigma 150-600mm C and the tamron 150-600 g2. I rely heavily on the eye autofocus. I'm wondering if the tamron has the same focus pulsing issues 😔 much appreciate taking the time reading my comment!

Another great video. I have a question, in the first pictures you have used 1/640 and 1/1250 on a very slow birds like the swan, I would use 1/250 or 1/320 and they should be totally frozen with a ISO at least 1 or 2 stops lower. Is there a particular reason to use such high speeds?

Fabio, great question, I tend to prefer higher SS to low ISO, the R6 performs so well I see very little difference up to ISO3200 and will happily go to ISO12800. I would rather have the higher SS should some sort of action occur. Cheers, Duade

Great Video Duade.... not many review of the CAnon R6 with the Tamron 150-600 G2. I do not know if it is my copy of the g2 lens but it took excellent pics when it is working right, Occasional I get the lens hunting in and out and I had to remove it from the adapter reinsert to get it back to normal! agaiN! it only happen mostly when my lens is zoom out to Max. and when the camera has gone to sleep mode waking up from sleep..( 600mm) and than it would hunt renlentlessly! which in our birding times miss all the good shots! wonder if anyone have this experience! I have the Original canon RF adapter and I also bought the Viltrox adapter and both give this issue ( again it is not all the time .. only once a while ) .... no problem with the Canon RF-100-400 ! or Canon 70-200 IS F2.8 with Canon Extender 2x III. AgaiN! thanks for the great review .... I did get occasional blur like you have on some shots! but only occur when I turn on Image stablization!

Maybe I am a bit late commenting on this video. I really liked your shooting style and comments. I just got this Tamron 150-600 f/5-6.3 VC USD G2 lens for my Nikon D500 recently and so far I really enjoy and like the lens. It seems to work real well with the D500 autofocus so I found I haven’t missed many shots with poor focus. Mostly anything that isn’t correct is more my fault then the lens or camera. Just a learning curve as I haven’t had a 600mm lens before and had been using a 300mm before. Any issues with camera shake etc are just magnified so much more. I had rented and tried a Nikon 200-500 and this Tamron. Both seemed very similar in photo quality and focusing etc however the weather resistant seals on the Tamron and slightly wider and longer lens had me purchasing the Tamron but other than that either would have suited me. VC and VR seemed negligible difference. Both seemed hand hold holdable for me (I just turned 70 so I am equally wobbly with both) plus the Acura Swiss mount worked with my tripod and monopod without having to add anything to the mount for attachment. As for photos I couldn’t see a difference between either lens. Thanks again for your video.
