Tamiya Subaru Brat Build Guide Part 4 - Wheels and Body Shells

Hi all. This is the 4th and final part of my build guide series of the Tamiya Subaru Brat
As explained in the video I could have gone to town more on painting the hard body shell but it's taken quite a long time already and I wanted to get the build video finished and get on with the next project.
It's been an enjoyable build and the truck is ideal for the garden with its fairly small size and brushed motor. Also as a Tamiya fan of a certain age it scores big on the nostalgia front and a great addition to my collection. This one will definitely get run quite often with the lexan shell and maybe with the hard shell occasionally.
Thanks very much if you have followed along and made it all the way to the end. I know that these build videos can go on a bit. I had quite a few animals outside while I was making this. Hopefully you can't hear them.
Cheers for now
Pete

Hiya Pete! I really enjoyed watching this one and listening to all the animals again, that zoo really needs to round them up! I think you did a great job on both bodies, makes a lot of sense to use the lexan one as a basher. Considering all the problems you had with the red, it came out spiffing, really looks the part and I agree that the stickers might spoil the clean look - it looks like a "proper" car mate! Nice trick with the battery lead, I'll see if that works with the Monster Beetle. Anyway, great stuff, hope you are having a good Sunday. :-)

Hello matey. Hooray I finally got this one finished. Like I was saying I could have carried on with it a bit more but I want to clear the decks and start on the Dump Truck. Yeah the red came out ok in the end but I have learnt a lesson about primer. Thanks for your comments. Yeah I must sort out all those wild animals in the garden! I'm having a good Sunday so far and got a couple of chums coming over in a bit for a socially distanced drink in the garden now it's allowed. Anyway so you were saying over on your video that you aren't sure about work yet because of Louise. Don't really know what the answer is until there is a vaccine but that's a way off. Saran is going to have the antibody test at work so she will know if she's already had it and not realised. That would be great if she has because then I've probably had it too and not realised. Probably not though. Enjoy the rest of your day mate. You defo need another kit if you aren't going back anytime soon. Hopefully KZread might pay for one? Cheers for now mate 😀

@@PeteWylieRC Oh mate, I meant to mention - I bought 4 of those MG 995 servos too - all of them broke after a few runs! I got 2 of them replaced by the eBay guarantee, but they broke as well! Good info - DO NOT BUY! Hope your tests are OK, you never know, you both might have had it. As for me, I probably will have to go back after next week, wearing PPE in school - bloody crazy! How do you socially distance 5 year olds? As for the RC's, KZread has probably paid for another one, but there are very few kits that I am interested in that are actually available right now, most are out of stock! Anyway, enjoy the garden beers. Laters mate! :-)

@@MarkBryanRC Hello mate. You know KZread never tells me when somebody replies to a reply. I just came here to check! Anyway that is interesting about the servos. I can't even remember who I bought them from and when. Anyway I don't get to have the antibody test but if Saran has had it then I almost certainly did too. Not sure as neither of us ever had a temperature but have had coldy symptoms on and off since Feb. Seems like they have reduced the plans to get the schools back so I guess you still don't know when you are back. Be great if KZread has bought you another Kit. I haven't checked Time Tunnel recently but I know he's had a delivery of backorder stuff because I got some bits through. What are you looking to do next when there is stock?

Fantastic Part 4 Pete. Well Done. The wolf howl at 16:28 was chilling. I use the next model up steering servos from yours, the Tower Pro 996 MG (purple label) servo, really good as I run them in everything I build from 27t to 8.5t, much better than the nylon geared Carson Modelsport Blue servos that are available. Thanks for the Vid....Just built one this weekend.....first time building and RC car and really enjoyed it, best bit for me to be honest!!.....couple of issues for me were: Ended up opening the suspension arm brackets a bit as they didn't allow the arms to move freely enough for my liking Had a right ballache getting the wheels together, ended up having to clamp them together (between bits of wood) to get them close enough for the screws to bite on the nuts, not sure how you managed that so effortlessly! Did the same re-enforcing as you with the rear body posts, actually used as couple of electrical wall socket screws which were a little fatter but just the right length The Carson servo (came with the transmitter) was a bit of a bad fit, needed to open up the holes to get all four screws in but solid now Now just waiting for good weather/lockdown easing to be able to take it out for a proper spin....👌😊😊

I believe I’ve seen some modifications that you’re able to do to allow for some front shocks, I think I saw some shock towers that attach and allow the front shocks to attach. I’m looking forward to receiving my Brat. As you know Tamiya’s have been in short supply and the Blitzer Beetle wasn’t coming into stock until the end of September, so plunged for the Brat.
