Tamiya Monster Beetle - Modernising a Legend Part 1: Overview, Ballraces and New Tyres

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I talk through my recently purchased vintage Tamiya Monster Beetle, and discuss my strategy for modernising it. I then get it to spin up, fit ball races, some new tyres and take it for a quick run up the road.

Great video! I'm getting back into RC again myself. I'm setting up my old Blackfoot up again. Can you say addictive! Lol

I've recently bought a Tamiya TT-01 and TT-02, both used and both as projects, so yes, very addictive. Good luck with yours. 👍

Randomly came across your video. I’m a big fan of the ORV chassis and the monster trucks are my favorite. I like your approach to targeting some core problems

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I love fixing up these old Tamiyas since it reminds me of my youth, and I am hoping that my 9 year old son will soon be able to join me in the hobby.

@@MostlyHelpful Tamiya makes some amazing kits that would be perfect for younger ones. I just got my nephew the comical grasshopper and we built it a few weekends ago. He is 12 and didn’t need much help from me.

You can pick up an aluminium upgrade rear post brace for the one that's missing. I believe there is also a shim trick you can do on the monster beetle/ orv gearbox that stops it clicking when in reverse. Something to do with the metal side plates being pushed apart. I shim my bevel gears in the wild one gearboxes I do . Runs smoother with no slack I recognise that body shell 🤔😅

To be fair back in my teens when I had a Hotshot 2 I never cleaned it after each run. I used to wait and then just strip it all down after each six months. I enjoyed cleaning and rebuilding that Monster Beetle and it sold quickly when I put it up for sale so I'd love to find a similar project to do soon.
