Glenn..... The Rear Suspension is called a "Walking Beam". It's how the twin Axles articulate over rough pavement. 😉 WELCOME to an Elite Group!!! 😁👍👍🖖 I've started my second Truck this week. After my Inheritance, I bought four Trucks and three Trailers - and some HIGH TECH Electronics! The Tamiya MFC-01 is perfectly acceptable and quite impressive. But I got Beier Sound/Light Systems from Germany. I can CHOOSE what Engine Sounds I want, choose how the Lights operate, and how many, and much more! 😁 Advice...... You said you DIDN'T use any Threadlock. If you fit a MFC-01 (which most do), you WILL regret not securing the hardware. The Sound System includes a Vibration Unit to simulate rough idle and Clutch release.... It WILL shake your Truck apart!!! 😵 Hopefully, you run it with Trailer. You will have a NEW Hobby!! 😁 From the beginning of your Video.... You said that the build is done, but feel there's twice the amount of work to finish...... Well... If you add lights, it's 3X the amount of work. If you add the MFC-01, it's 5X the work!! But I can promise, knowing your passion for the Hobby - you'll love every single minute!

I loved building my grand hauler, Tamiya 3 speed gearboxes are really nice to build in the trucks and the 4x4's. Thread lock is used if you fit a vibration motor as shakes the truck to pieces. Mine is still on going. So much to do on these trucks. Great video glen 👍.

This is the quality of the older tamiya kits from the 70s . I had a motorized F1 car that was as big as this truck. It had a stick shift transmission with live rear axles and rack and pinion steering and suspension. It's the best kit I've ever had . It was gorgeous.

Whoever clicked thumbs down needs to have their thumb chopped off. It's an amazing build it's something I've always wanted to do. Even knows it's not racing and 8th scale or Nitro. Very interesting. And it don't matter your age everybody knows days of thunder, mind you I am in the deep south of Georgia. Favorite line that movie is when the doctor tells cole trickle,( let me out of the car cole let me out of car!) In a fake Boston accent. That movie just has deep cells all over it. But it is a classic. Keep it up .the build looks amazing can't wait to see it finished. I think it's persuaded me to do one myself and I have my own little ideas and projects for it!

Trucks are fun to build. Do you know that the High-Lift trucks use mostly the same gearbox, but with other end plates. different housing and a transfer box at the bottom? Motor is also moved on those. High-Lift and TLT-1 axles are based on the truck axles, so if any need parts for those, regarding diffs, trucks use the same parts. TLT axles is the axle that is most similar to the trucks in shape, only wider and with TA04 steering parts. A popular mod is to make these trucks 6x6 by using TLT axle, mod the gearbox or fit a transfer box. Getribedoctor in Germany specialize in those axles and gearboxes for 6x6. Axles can even have selectable diff lock. But beware, those parts are not cheap! I have actually have 3 axles from him on a project I build with difflock and 6x6. Have also built loads of project with HL and TLT axles. But axles are getting a bit more hard to come by nowdays. And btw you get alluminium axle housings, but not from Tamiya. Lesu is the biggest maker of aftermarket parts for these trucks, including axles. RC4wd used to make aluminium axle housings for trucks, HL and TLT. But those are discontinued several years ago. Richard

You get a heck of a lot of parts for your money. Light & Sound modules add another dimension to. You are flying along with yours though, it took me 6 months to finish my Knight Hauler.

Hey Glenn, don’t know if this has been mentioned but for those low friction steel suspension balls for kits like the TT-01, TT-02, FF-03, etc. the way I’ve installed them without hurting my fingers was to use a small C-clamp and sort of “press” them in carefully. Was building a set of the TT-02 adjustable upper arms and the c-clamp trick worked a treat. Just wanted to share the tip with anyone struggling with kit parts or someone having difficulty with the uprated parts like me.

Great video Glenn. I´m still thinking about adding a Tamiya semi to my collection. But if I buy one, I probably want the MFC, some hop-ups and a trailer. And then I get scared of the prices. But at least seeing my TRX-4 until now had cost me over 2,000 EUR, let me dream of these trucks, again. The thread lock makes a lot of sense. The whole rig is rattling and shaking, when in use. Especially when your using the MFC with the brass weight to simulate the motor vibrations.😉

I've spoken to someone that has a couple..... fully customised...... he didn't say how much in total he'd spent..... but it was close to £10 thousand on both kits, trailers, radio gear and add ons..... Most turn at the same time, but when one gear set engage, the other is disconnected, but they still turn. That's how manual geatboxes work. Easier to see if you connect the output to a drill and then select the gears going from 1 to 3rd. The gears on top shaft is fixed by splines so they can't move. Forks on the bottom engange which gear that power will go through. 1st gear is closes to the motor down and along bottom shaft and power then goes throu the gears at end. Second gear is gears in the middle, down to bottom shaft and up via the end gears. 3rd gear is straight throug the top shaft. The gears at the bottom are then disconnected so the they just follow along. All gears do spin at the same time, but power is not transmitted throgh all gears at the same time. That's how a manual gearbox works. On a real truck there would been a clutch between the motor and gearbox which works like a soft on or off switch if you will. I have never understand auto gearboxes even after explained thousand times.. Hope that explains a bit. There was a chart somewhere that showed the power way in each gear at some point, but I can not find it anymore...
